Ren Hongen, a native of Wenxian County, Henan Province, born in 1941, is a national first-class actor, a well-known and famous Yu opera performance artist, an outstanding expert in provincial management who enjoys special government allowances, and the former head of the Yu Opera Troupe in Xuchang City, Henan Province.

In the past 60 years of artistic career, he has shot more than ten films and created a series of influential artistic images. "Liu Zide" of "People And Horses" in the 1960s, "Chang Youfu" of "The Marriage of the Unlucky Uncle" in the 1980s, and "Zhao Tiexian" of "I Love My Father" in the 1990s have been hailed as the three milestones of performing arts.
Ren Hongen entered the former Xu Changyu Opera Troupe at the age of fourteen, and under the influence of Wang Yunsheng, Zheng Lanbo, Tian Xiuling and other artists of the older generation, he studied hard, worked hard, and did not shame to ask. The older generation of artists have both martial arts and martial arts, and their wonderful acting skills have had a profound impact on him. Under the careful guidance of teacher Zheng Lanbo, he starred in "Tang Cheng" in "Tang Zhi County Trial Commandment", fully using the realistic performance style, without losing the exaggeration and humor of the opera, vividly shaping the stubbornness and wit of the parent official under the suppression of the magnates. In 1961, in the Xuchang regional drama performance, the "Tang Cheng" played by him won the "first prize" for performance, laying a deep foundation for his future artistic career.
In 1963, he became famous as "Liu Zide" in "People And Horses Calling". In 1965, he participated in the theater observation performance of the five provinces in central and southern China, and Tao Zhu commented that "Liu Zide" is a model for today's rural rich middle peasants. He thus gained the reputation of "living freely". People's Daily, Nanfang Daily, Yangcheng Evening News and other news media reported that Guo Moruo watched three consecutive performances during the Beijing performance, calling him a talented actor. In the same year, the play was filmed by Xi'an Film Studio as an opera film, which had a far-reaching impact.
With the continuous improvement of artistic creation, Ren Hong'en performed and directed. In the 1980s, he participated in the first director training course held by the Provincial Department of Culture, and created the sketch "No one knows", which was used as a teaching demonstration work.
In 1978, he performed at the Xuchang Area Modern Opera, directed and starred in "East Wind Blowing", won the Director Award, and the Performance Award.
In 1979, he performed in The Modern Drama of Henan Province, starring and directing in "Candlelight", and won the "second prize" for the performance.
In 1980, he played "Can Not Enough" in the first TV series of Henan Television Station "Red Army Cave", which won the "Third Prize" of the national TV series.
In 1981, he played "Xu Huaicai" in the opera art film "White Grandma Drunk" shot by Changchun Film Studio, and the film won the "Little Hundred Flowers" Award for Long Film.
In 1984, he played "GangJiu" in the modern drama "Gangjiu Decanting Wine" and won the Provincial Modern Opera Performance Excellence Award. In 1988, the drama was adapted into a drama TV series and won the National Drama Television Drama "Golden Eagle" Award.
In 1985, he played "Chang Youfu" in "The Marriage of the Unlucky Uncle", and won the "first prize" for performance and the "second prize" for directing in the first drama competition in Henan Province. The opera film "The Marriage of the Unlucky Uncle" won the 1987 Outstanding Opera Film Award. The three episodes of the TV series of the same name filmed by this drama won the first prize of the National Opera TELEVISION Series "Great Wall" Award. The superb performance has once again penetrated the hearts of the people, and the popular singing voice has been widely circulated.
In 1987, he played "Wang Run" in "Stone Dream", and at the first China Arts Festival, this play attracted much attention as the only modern drama. His simple and humorous character modeling, full of Henan's local atmosphere, has conquered his peers in the theater industry.
In 1989, he played the role of "Zhang Defa" in "Confused Pot Smashing Pot", and in the national modern drama excellent repertoire, he was praised by experts as "the actor who sweats and pores are all plays", and won the Excellent Performance Award. The opera art film based on this drama won the first prize of the fourth national "Panzhihua". I won the "Outstanding Actor Award".
In 1988, he played the role of "Noh Four Generations" in "Mountain Village Wind And Flow". The witty wit of the grass-roots cadres in the mountain villages in the special era is vividly portrayed. He won the "Special Award" and the first "Xiangyu Cup" Art Award at the 4th Henan Provincial Drama Competition. The adapted TV opera art film "The Past of Soap Corner Ping" won the second prize of the national opera art film "Yellow River Cup".
In 1991, he won the "Gold Award" of the National Opera Broadcasting Grand Prix.
In 1992, he played "Wang Tuli" in "The Dang Family of Wang Jiawan" and won the Outstanding Performance Award of the Fourth Provincial Drama Competition. The repertoire won the provincial "Five One Project Award". The adapted TV art film "Orange Is Red" won the third prize for outstanding single TV series at the 8th National Opera TV Series "Pengbo" Award. The 7th Central and Southern Six Provinces {District} TV Series "Golden Sail Award" Outstanding Drama TV Series Award.
In 1997, he played "Gangjiu" in the opera art film "Gangjiu Sober Wine", which won the "Second Prize" of the 15th China Television "Golden Eagle Award" single drama.
In 1997, he played "Zhao Tiexian" in the opera film "I Love My Father", which won the 2000 Huabiao Award for Outstanding Film of the Ministry of Culture and the "Five One Project" Award of the Central Propaganda Department.
In 2004, he played "Liu Laohan" in the opera movie "I Love My Grandson", and cooperated with comedian Gao Xiumin, and the perfect combination of Yu opera and duo was well received.
In 2008, after retirement, he was hired by Xuchang Yu Opera Troupe as artistic director. With the stage play "I Love My Father", he participated in the Xuchang Drama Competition and won the Special Contribution Award.
In 2013, the starring "Stone Dream" and "The New Thing of the Unlucky Uncle" were successively put on the screen, gathering the artistic accumulation of nearly 60 years of art, and once again bloomed brilliantly.
The Xuchang Yu Opera Troupe led by Ren Hongen has created a brilliant performance of one good play a year, and has been rated by the Ministry of Culture as an excellent theater troupe for writing and performing modern dramas, and has performed in rural areas, mountainous areas and mining areas for a long time. His vivid, humorous and witty character modeling has brought endless artistic enjoyment to the audience, and he is a performance artist loved by the people.
Ren Hong'en's art has infected countless audiences and influenced countless students in the theater world. More than a dozen disciples are versatile, diligent and studious, and in order to prosper the cause of opera, they have long insisted on performing in the front line and worked tirelessly! Disciple Li Jianzhong, active in the Xuchang Yu Opera Troupe, played Chang Youfu in "The Marriage of the Unlucky Uncle", and won the "Excellent Performance" Award for The Reserved Repertoire of Changzhou Drama Modern Drama. Disciple Liu Haigong, belonging to the Third Yu Opera Troupe of Henan Province, has been studying diligently for a long time, and has well inherited the teacher's singing art characteristics, and has won the "Most Popular Opera Actor" of the TV Station's annual opera list. Zhang Xuan of Xuchang Yu Opera Troupe; Zhang Rui of Anyang Yu Opera Troupe; and Huang Hua, Jin Bing, Ren Kuilin, Liu Wenyu, Zhao Jinyin, each performed well and was deeply loved by the audience.
