John Winston Lennon (born 9 October 1940 in Liverpool, England) is a member of the British rock band The Beatles, a rock musician, poet, and social activist.
In September 1952, Lennon became fond of music after entering Quarry Bank Junior High School; in early 1955 Lennon organized a rock band at the school, "The Quarrymen"; in 1960, Lennon formed the Beatles and began performing in clubs everywhere. In 1965, John Lennon was awarded the British Empire Medal by the Queen of england, and after the Beatles disbanded in 1970, Lennon released albums such as "John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band" and "Imagine", and also composed songs such as "Give Peace A Chance" and "Imagine". At 10:49 p.m. on December 8, 1980, Lennon was shot dead at the age of 40 by mark David Chapman, an avid American male fan who was allegedly mentally ill, in front of his apartment in New York.
In 1994, John Lennon was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2004 John Lennon was named one of Rolling Stone magazine's "50 Greatest Pop Musicians of All Time."
