More police officers rushed to calm the situation, most of the dancers involved in smashing were arrested, and one car after another was transported to the police stations, arresting a total of 779 people and losing 5 billion French dollars to the social bureau.
None of the arrested people admitted to hitting the police and smashing things, and the police department organized personnel to testify and let the participants expose each other to the end of failure. The protests were widely sympathetic to the citizens, and some Shanghai citizens spontaneously delivered meals to the imprisoned dancers every day, and various social forces were thrown into the rescue. In the end, the vast majority of the girls arrested and imprisoned were released, and some were sentenced, and the National Government was forced to withdraw the ban on dancing.
