On July 31, 2015, Beijing successfully bid for the Winter Olympics, becoming the first double Olympic city in the history of the Olympic Games. Six days later, as the director of the Beijing-Zhangdong Winter Olympic Research Center, I was interviewed by the Economic Reference Daily (Chen Jian: "The Winter Olympics will bring nine major changes to Beijing", Economic Information Daily, August 6, 2015), proposing that the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will bring nine major changes to Beijing. On the occasion of the upcoming Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, looking back at the interview content 6 years ago, we can see that the nine major changes brought by the Winter Olympics to Beijing have been realized.
First, nine aspects of the change in content
The nine major changes mentioned in the interview are: it is conducive to promoting social fairness and justice; it is conducive to promoting the further opening up of Beijing and even China; the environmental quality of Beijing will be further improved; the travel of Beijing citizens will be more convenient; it will drive the coordinated development of many industries; it will give Beijing 600,000 new jobs to promote job growth; it will drive the development of tourism; it will help promote the relief of Beijing's non-core functions; and it will promote the development of ice and snow sports in Beijing.
The above 9 aspects, the first two changes, belong to the macro level content, relatively abstract. It is not easy to feel directly. But a careful analysis can feel the changes that have taken place in this regard. The concept of justice, equality and tolerance advocated by Olympism is of great significance to China at present, whether it is in the economic or political fields, or people's social life, and the impact of Olympism on Chinese society is a gradual process. However, after the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, it is an indisputable fact that the ideas promoted by Olympism have been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people in China.
In terms of promoting the further opening up of Beijing and even China, the pace of China's opening up has not stopped. Under the circumstance that the global epidemic prevention and control is still serious, on October 31, the G20 Leaders' Summit held in Rome, Italy, issued the "G20 Leaders' Summit Declaration", which made a special declaration to the Beijing Winter Olympics, "We look forward to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games." This is an important opportunity for athletes from all over the world to compete and a symbol of human resilience." The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, supported by the international community, is actually a recognition of China's further opening up. For Chinese sports, due to the further integration into international sports, many achievements have been made in the past six years. This includes an understanding of international sports rules. The Chinese delegation to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has specially added lawyer positions, indicating the understanding of the rules and the improvement of compliance awareness.

Third, beijing's environmental quality will be further improved. Zhangjiakou City, the host city, has accelerated the adjustment of the energy structure and built a clean, low-carbon and efficient energy system. It has created a number of national records such as the first installed capacity of wind power, the first in the scale of photovoltaic poverty alleviation power stations, the first in the number of commercial operations of hydrogen fuel cell buses, and the first in the world in the capacity of 100-megawatt compressed air storage demonstration projects. It directly promotes the improvement of environmental quality.
Fourth, it is more convenient for Beijing citizens to travel. The Zhangjiakou-Beijing high-speed railway, which has been opened, has the fastest running time of 47 minutes. The fastest running time of the smart Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Railway Experience Train from Beijing North Railway Station to Zhangjiakou Chongli Prince Edward City Station is 1 hour and 4 minutes, and the fastest running time from Qinghe Station to Prince Edward City Station is 50 minutes. Zhangjiakou City and Zhangjiakou Chongli District both belong to Beijing's one-hour traffic circle.
The fifth is to drive the coordinated development of a number of industries. Six years of preparation for the Winter Olympics have led to the development of a number of industries. This includes: the demand for infrastructure construction in the preparation of the Winter Olympic Games is mainly the construction of venues, transportation infrastructure, communications, sports, culture, exhibitions, hotels and other supporting infrastructure construction. The above three aspects have led to the growth of building materials industry, energy conservation and environmental protection, real estate, transportation industry, communication and electronics and other industries. At the same time, it has led to the development of consumer service industries such as sports industry, tourism, and leisure.
Sixth, promote employment growth. Beijing and Zhangjiakou jointly prepared for the Winter Olympics, driving the development of a number of industries. The development of these industries has created countless employment opportunities. Taking Yanqing as an example, just around the service guarantee Winter Olympics, Yanqing has more than 70,000 people participated in various trainings such as ice and snow skills, drone piloting, homestay tourism reception, volunteer service, etc., 13,500 people participated in employment-oriented training, and more than 6,000 people achieved employment.
The seventh is to promote the development of tourism. The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics includes the Beijing Division, Zhangjiakou Division and Yanqing Division. Taking the Chongli Competition as an example, Chongli District has vigorously developed the ice and snow tourism industry led by the Winter Olympics, and now there are more than 30,000 people directly or indirectly engaged in the ice and snow industry and tourism services, including more than 9,000 poor people.
Eighth, it is conducive to promoting the relief of non-core functions in Beijing. For example, Xiong'an New Area currently undertakes a total of 3,756 beijing enterprise transfers; Zhangjiakou takes the service of the Winter Olympics as an opportunity to promote the transformation of traditional logistics to modern logistics, and undertakes a number of large chain logistics enterprises in Beijing to settle in.
The ninth is to promote the development of ice and snow sports in Beijing. China's ice and snow industry has increased rapidly from 270 billion yuan in 2015 to 600 billion yuan in 2020. The scale of Beijing's ice and snow industry in 2015 was less than 10 billion yuan, and by the end of 2021, it will exceed 30 billion yuan. The number of snow and ice sports participants also increased from 1.69 million in 2015 to nearly 2 million in 2021.
The changes brought about by the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics are manifold. From the perspective of the international Olympic movement, Beijing hosted the Winter Olympic Games, which led 300 million people to participate in ice and snow sports, which is a major contribution made by China to the popularization of the Olympic movement and the dissemination and promotion of the Olympic spirit. I believe that after 90 days, the three divisions will dedicate a simple, safe and wonderful Olympic event to the world!
