Ming Zhou Chen Landscape figure painting is admired

He was a famous professional painter in China in the middle of the Ming Dynasty. He had two particularly famous students, one Tang Yin and the other Qiu Ying. Tang Yin and Qiu Yingqing were extremely close in style out of blue, but at that time, their fame had surpassed that of their teachers. Although Zhou Chen is not as famous as Tang Yin, Zhou Chen's works are not much lower than Tang Yin's prices in today's art market.

Zhou Chen (1460–1535), courtesy name Shunqing, was a native of Wu (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu). Ming Dynasty painter, good at painting figures and landscapes.

He lived between Chenghua and Jiajing. Zhou Chen landscape master Inherited Chen Xian. He has painstakingly copied works by Li Cheng, Guo Xi, Li Tang, Ma Yuan and other works, which are mainly taken from the Li Tang faction. The painting of mountains and stones is solid, the rules are rigorous, and the pen is skilled. Once with Dai Jin, they have each other's strengths. The figure paintings are also very outstanding, ancient and strange, dense and scattered, and have their own extremes.

Zhou Chen is a rich painter, and there are many works handed down, only the Shanghai Museum collects 7 large works such as "Spring Mountain Travel Map", 14 small fan pages, the Palace Museum collects "Spring Mountain Riding Map", "Spring Spring Mountain Hidden Map", etc., Jinan Museum collects "Visiting Friends Map", and some works are also collected in major museums in Taiwan and abroad. Zhou Chen's surviving works are well structured, the width is powerful, and the pen is meticulous.

Later generations thought that Tang Yin asked Zhou Chen to write more after he became famous, but this theory may not be credible. It can only explain that Zhou Chen's style and Tang Yin have more in common. When the descendants dug up the Zhou paintings and changed the works of the Tang dynasty in order to make profits, neither of them should be responsible. The Shanghai Museum has a "View of the Waterfall Map" axis, extremely skilled, called a masterpiece, people at that time thought that Zhou was not as famous as Tang, so they dug up zhou's name, fake Tang pen books, as a birthday gift.

Although Zhou Chen is not as famous as Tang Yin, Zhou Chen's works in the art market are not much lower than Tang Yin's prices. Take the Christie's auction in New York on November 28, 1990 as an example, there are works by Zhou Chen and Tang Yin at the same time, and one of Zhou Chen's landscape paintings "Jiang Lu Yuanguan" axis was sold for 140,000 US dollars, and Tang Yin's works were only half of the price, of course, this is also related to the quality of the work itself, generally speaking, Tang Yin's works are higher than Zhou Chen's price, and posterity does not admire it.
