Starting from 99,800 yuan, the fifth-generation DM technology, and the ultra-long battery life of 2,100 kilometers, the BYD Qin L DM-i, which has these words, has attracted widespread attention as soon as it came out.
BYD has proved the fuel-saving advantages of DM technology for several years, but the exaggerated fuel consumption data and endurance performance of the fifth-generation DM technology have still aroused countless netizens' questions, after all, the engine thermal efficiency is 46.04%, the fuel consumption per 100 kilometers is 2.9L, and the long endurance of 2000+ kilometers sounds like a fantasy.
As early as 2022, the second-generation GS8 hybrid version of GAC Trumpchi claimed to have achieved an ultra-long range of 2000+ kilometers, and in 2023, the Honda Accord e:PHEV and Haoying e:PHEV will also achieve an ultra-long range of about 2,000 kilometers.
2024 is a year of concentrated launch of 2000+ km range models, in addition to the recent release of Qin L DM-i, Dongfeng Fengshen L7, Chery Fengyun A8 Voyage Edition and other models, Geely's 2000 km long range models are also on the way.
Back to the original question, is the so-called 2000+ battery life a gimmick used for publicity after the laboratory is obtained, or is it a real data that every consumer may reproduce?
续航2000+,水占几成?
After the release of Qin L DM-i, car blogger @老和山老driver took the lead in questioning it. According to the sticker information of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the fuel consumption of the loss of electricity is 3.8L, which is 3% lower than the energy consumption of the previous generation of DM technology and 13% lower than the fuel consumption of the Qin PLUS DM-i.

In order to verify his statement, Xiaotong went to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to inquire about relevant information. First of all, according to the information of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the energy consumption test of domestic new energy vehicles is based on GB/T 19753-2021 "Test Method for Energy Consumption of Light Hybrid Electric Vehicles", and the battery life is calculated based on GB/T32694-2021 "Technical Conditions for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Passenger Vehicles".
In the past, the evaluation standard GB/T 19753-2013 was indeed NEDC working condition, but considering the large gap between NEDC working condition and the energy consumption of the real driving environment, GB/T 19753-2021 has been changed to WLTC cycle and CLTC-P/C test conditions, and the certification test will be carried out under WLTC working condition before 2025.
When domestic car companies advertise the battery life of their products, they usually use CLTC working conditions, including the BYD Qin L DM-i. Therefore, we can see that the BYD Qin L DM-i has released two models of pure electric 80 km and 120 km, but in the label of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the pure electric range is divided into three versions: 60 km, 90 km and 116 km. The lowest charge state of the car 100 kilometers fuel consumption were 3.8L, 3.98L, 4.17L, this difference in energy consumption should be from the impact of the weight of the car.
In other words, there is indeed a certain difference between the test of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and BYD's propaganda, @老和山老司机所说秦L DM-i The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's statistics of 3.98L per 100 kilometers are correct, but whether the official data released by BYD is based on NEDC or CLTC working conditions, we cannot be sure for the time being.
According to the calculation of fuel consumption of 4L per 100 kilometers, the range of Qin L DM-i with a 65L fuel tank can reach 1625 kilometers, and with the pure electric range, it can reach about 1700 kilometers.
It should be noted that this is in the lowest charge state, and the energy consumption of plug-in hybrid vehicles will be increased by more than 20% in the general state of power loss. If it is kept fully fueled and fully charged, the range of the Qin L DM-i will be increased by 20%, and it can reach more than 2,000 kilometers.
This information can be queried in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Xiaotong also checked the data of Fengyun A8, and the energy consumption performance is slightly inferior to Qin L DM-i, but the difference is not much.
At the Qin L DM-i press conference, BYD also announced the measured data of a number of automotive media platforms and bloggers, all of which are above 2300 kilometers, and the highest endurance record even exceeds 2500 kilometers, which shows that BYD's promotion of a vehicle range of 2100 kilometers is a reverse false standard.
Chery Fengyun A8 Voyage Edition, which also claims to have a range of more than 2000 kilometers, and Dongfeng Fengshen L7 have also launched a battery life test activity, and even a live test of the car media, which proves that the 2000+ km range is true.
From data calculations to media evaluations, it has been proved that models such as Qin L DM-i, Fengshen L7, and Fengyun A8 Voyage Edition can indeed achieve an ultra-long endurance of 2000+ kilometers.
We can understand the doubts of netizens, over the years, domestic consumers have seen the rise of China's new energy vehicles, and recognized China's three electrics, intelligent cockpit, and intelligent driving technology, but they did not expect that the internal combustion engines of domestic car companies have also reached the leading level, and they cannot understand how BYD, Chery, Dongfeng and other car companies have achieved 2000+ kilometers of ultra-long battery life.
After entering the new energy era, domestic car companies have started to explore the route of ultra-long battery life, such as BYD launched the first-generation DM technology in 2008, and in 2021, the Qin PLUS DM-i equipped with the fourth-generation DM technology achieved a long range of 1200 kilometers. After years of development, car companies have gradually understood that hybrid + high-efficiency motor + parallel output mode is the basis for achieving ultra-long battery life.
Plug-in hybrid technology + high-efficiency engine is the secret of ultra-long battery life
Generally speaking, the optimal energy consumption range of a small engine of around 1.5 liters is between 60 km/h and 90 km/h. One of the core factors for hybrid vehicles to achieve ultra-long range is that they can generate electricity from fuel at low speeds, and then drive it with an electric motor, so that the engine always keeps the optimal energy consumption range, and the fuel consumption is much lower than that of gasoline vehicles.
At high speeds, since the BYD Qin L DM-i, Chery Fengyun A8, and Dongfeng Fengshen L7 are all plug-in hybrid models, they can not only reduce energy consumption through direct engine drive, but also allow the motor to provide power to the car through parallel mode, share the pressure of the engine, ensure that the engine is still in the working state of optimal energy consumption, further reduce power consumption and improve battery life. Of course, the fuel consumption of the extended-range car will increase at high speeds because it cannot be driven directly by the engine.
Because of this, we have seen and will soon release 2000 km ultra-long range models, which are basically plug-in hybrid and oil hybrid models.
Another key factor for the BYD Qin L to achieve a long range of 2000+ kilometers is the new generation engine with a thermal efficiency of 46.06%. The so-called thermal efficiency, simply put, is how much energy produced by gasoline is used to drive the car, under normal circumstances, most of the energy of gasoline escapes in the form of heat, improving thermal efficiency means that the energy consumption of the car will be reduced, domestic Chery, Geely, BYD and other car companies are extremely concerned about engine technology research and development.
As early as 2021, Geely launched an engine with a thermal efficiency of up to 43.32%, claiming to have set a new "record for the highest thermal efficiency of a mass-produced hybrid engine in the world". Today, BYD has come up with an engine with a thermal efficiency of up to 46.06%, setting a record again.
In the face of this data, Geely was naturally not convinced, and Xu Dongwei, general manager of the brand user communication center of Geely Automobile Group and deputy general manager of Geely Automobile Sales Company, announced another engine with a thermal efficiency of 46.1%.
After Li Yunfei, general manager of BYD's brand and public relations department, saw the news, he immediately issued a document saying that compared to mass production, if you just look at the thermal efficiency is higher, then BYD laboratory also has an engine with a thermal efficiency of 46.5%.
After the thermal efficiency of the piston engine reaches 40%, many people think that it is already the limit, and the development of new energy vehicles has made us neglect to pay attention to fuel vehicles, so that many netizens do not know that the thermal efficiency of domestic engines has reached the top level of the industry.
Every 0.1 percentage point increase in the thermal efficiency of a piston engine is a miracle, and an engine with a thermal efficiency of more than 46% can naturally achieve a longer range when paired with hybrid technology that can keep the engine in the best energy efficiency. Domestic car companies have successively launched models with a range of up to 2000+ kilometers, which is based on the achievements accumulated in technology research and development over the years, and is also a milestone in the comprehensive rise of independent brands.
The technology competition will prompt car companies to increase R&D investment, launch more practical and better experience products, just like the advent of a car with a range of 2000+ kilometers, which has made Xiaotong think, is it still necessary for ordinary consumers to consider pure electric vehicles?
The pressure is on the electric car
According to the calculation of about 8 yuan/L of No. 92 gasoline, it takes about 520 yuan to fill up the fuel of BYD Qin L DM-i, and the average cost per kilometer is about 0.25 yuan. The electricity cost of domestic third-party charging piles is generally 1.2 yuan to 1.8 yuan, and the average cost of pure electric travel per kilometer is about 0.2 yuan, and the cost gap between charging and refueling travel is almost negligible. Of course, if you only use your own charging pile to charge, because civil electricity is relatively cheap, the cost per kilometer may be less than 0.1 yuan.
It is even said that the cost of pure electric vehicles may already be on par with plug-in hybrid vehicles by using more expensive charging piles in service areas to charge cars. Coupled with the decrease in the range of pure electric vehicles in winter and the increase in high-speed energy consumption, the travel cost of pure electric vehicles may be higher than that of plug-in hybrid vehicles in some cases.
As ordinary consumers, the first consideration we consider when buying a car is not environmental protection, but factors such as space, price, and travel cost. Nowadays, plug-in hybrid vehicles are not only lower than pure electric vehicles, but even the gap between travel costs and pure electric vehicles is narrowing.
You must know that Qin L DM-i, Dongfeng Fengshen L7, and Chery Fengyun A8 Voyage Edition not only bring lower travel costs, but also solve users' battery life anxiety with a range of up to 2000+ kilometers. Xiaotong's hometown is about 1,300 kilometers away from Guangzhou, and when driving back during the Spring Festival holiday, the service area is often overcrowded, not only is it difficult to find free charging piles, but the front of the gas station is also crowded with cars waiting to be refueled.
These 2000+ km cars can solve my battery life troubles, and I can drive back to my hometown from Guangzhou with a tank of fuel. Xiaotong believes that in the era when the penetration rate of new energy vehicles has exceeded 50%, BYD, Dongfeng, Chery and other car companies have launched 2000+ kilometers of cars, which is actually putting pressure on other pure electric vehicles. With the travel cost, mileage, model price, and preferential policies (green card and purchase tax) of plug-in hybrid vehicles not falling behind, car companies need to consider how pure electric vehicles should compete with plug-in hybrid vehicles in the future.
