On the banks of the Riva River, the oldest building area in the North Zhongshan Road Campus, the History Museum of East China Normal University and the Qunxian Hall and The Great Lawn, which were built in 1930, form an organic whole, forming the historical style area of East China Normal University. After more than a year of renovation and exhibition construction, the New School History Museum presents the cultural traditions, achievements and social contributions of East China Normal University in the past 70 years and even 142 years since its establishment through pictures, videos, objects, interactions and other methods. In the exhibition space, the school history exhibition implemented the "1+1 plan", that is, the school history was displayed in the school history hall, and the characters were displayed in the Qunxian Hall.

According to the 1.7 million words of the Shanghai Municipal Monograph, which took 13 years to revise the history and was cultivated by the hands of more than 500 people. The history of East China Normal University dates back to St. John's University founded in 1879, Daxia University founded in 1924, and Guanghua University founded in 1925. As the first new type of normal university established after the founding of New China, the school chronicle introduced the school-running process of various schools and departments merged into East China Normal University in different periods, and these three schools, together with the East Asian Sports College, including the Shanghai Early Childhood Normal College, shanghai Education College, Shanghai Second Education College, Shanghai Half-work and Half-study Normal College and other schools have set up special festivals. There are also one or two departments that have been merged into the Normal University, such as Fudan, Hujiang, Datong, Aurora and other university education departments, the Department of Zoology and the Department of Botany of Tongji University, and the whole process of its creation, development and integration is also examined in detail.

Inside the museum, the physical exhibits faithfully tell the history. From August to September 1938, the first full translation of capital translated by Guo Dali and Wang Yanan Chinese was published in Shanghai, and the classic Work of Marxism, Capital, was finally displayed in full form in front of Chinese people. Behind it, there was both the suppression of the Kuomintang authorities, the affliction of homelessness, poverty and disease, and the disaster of the translation being burned in the fire of the Japanese Kou, but the translators completed the translation work against all odds. In addition, the lyrics of "March of the Volunteer Army" composed by Tian Han, the Zhaode Monument erected by Guanghua University to thank the trustees for donating land for study, Chairman Mao Zedong's book "How to Know the World" by Mr. Feng Qi, and Mr. Dai Jiaxiang's manuscript of "JinWen Da Zidian" are all collections at the level of "bottom of the pressure box" of the whole museum.

According to statistics, 20 of them are professors of East China Normal University, namely Lu Simian, Liao Shicheng, Zhang Yaoxiang, Meng Xiancheng, Xiao Xiaorong, Yan Xinzhe, Hu Huanyong, Fang Zhong, Shi Jingcun, Li Pingxin, Wang Yangchong, Chen Biaoru, Li Chunfen, Wu Ze, Liu Fonian, Feng Qi, Zhou Yuanbing, Chen Xulu, Qian Gurong, and Wang Yuanhua (in order of birth date). The other four are Wang Xuanchang, who has been teaching at Daxia University for a long time, Wang Zaoshi, who has been teaching at Guanghua University for a long time, Yang Kuan, a graduate of Guanghua University, and Gu Tinglong, who has served as an adjunct professor at East China Normal University. According to the school history, when East China Normal University was established in 1951, it was subordinate to the Ministry of Education of the East China Military and Political Commission, in 1954 it was subordinate to the Central Ministry of Education, in 1964 it was transferred to the Central Ministry of Higher Education, in 1969 it was delegated to Shanghai, and therefore changed its name in 1972, and since 1978 it has been under the dual leadership of the Central Ministry of Education and the local government, and the emphasis on co-management has changed many times in the process of co-construction and co-management. Experts who participated in the symposium on the publication of school history believe that these changes are not only the natural changes caused by the adjustment of the national organizational structure, but also the special evolution of the different positions of the state for normal universities and higher teacher education in different periods, which are of considerable value for further exploration.
