But no one expected that in March 1985, when Xu Shiyou went to Shanghai Huadong Hospital for a routine physical examination, he was found to have liver cancer, and it was still advanced.
After Xu Shiyou knew the result, he frowned and thought for a moment, he felt that he was not as strong as when he was young, and there might be a little problem, but he did not expect that this "problem" would be so serious!
The doctor suggested that Xu Shiyou be hospitalized as soon as possible, but in fact, everyone knows that there is no possibility of cure for advanced liver cancer, as long as the word cancer is stained, basically only conservative treatment.
At first, the doctor suggested that he go to Beijing for treatment, because the medical conditions in Beijing are better.

Xu Shiyou was born on February 2, 1906 in Xujiawa, Macheng County, Hubei Province, which is now Xuwa, Henan Province.
Xu Shiyou's mother worked hard to pull several children to grow up, Xu Shiyou has been very considerate of his mother since he was a child, but he is powerless when he is young, seeing that life at home is becoming more and more difficult, it just so happens that an old monk said that he has good roots and asked him if he would like to go to the temple with him.
Xu Shiyou's mother did not want her child to enter the temple, but Xu Shiyou agreed to this matter without her mother in order to reduce the burden on the family.
So, at the age of eight, he left home and entered the Songshan Shaolin Temple to study.
At first, he did chores in the temple, and then he secretly watched other brothers practicing, and he also followed the secret practice, and after being discovered by the temple master, Xu Shiyou began to formally learn martial arts.
After Xu Shiyou's martial arts achievements, Xu Shiyou returned to his hometown to visit his mother, but because of the uneven fight on the road, he accidentally killed a bullying landlord young master, and the landlord colluded with the local police to arrest him everywhere.
At this time, the family could not go back, even the temple could not go back, Xu Shiyou could only be forced to leave home and began to wander.

Just in 1937, after Xu Shiyou arrived in northern Shaanxi, at the end of the year, Xu Shiyou entered the Anti-Japanese Red Army University to study, and after graduation, he served as the deputy director of the Anti-Japanese University Affairs Department.

Xu Shiyou has some feelings for Zhang Guotao, after all, Zhang Guotao was particularly kind to Xu Shiyou before, allowing him to enter his room at will, knowing that Xu Shiyou loves to drink, and the wine in the house is also taken with him.
When the Party Central Committee criticized Zhang Guotao, because it involved the cadres under Zhang Guotao, including Xu Shiyou, his violent temper exploded.
Thinking that the party Central Committee was fighting for power and wanted to get him and other colleagues out of power, he couldn't help but say a word for Zhang Guotao, the old boss, in order to express his dissatisfaction, not really wanting to make it clear for Zhang Guotao, after all, because of some of Zhang Guotao's wrong commands, which led to the failure of the anti-encirclement and suppression campaign, Xu Shiyou, who was fighting on the front line, was particularly touched.
But just because of Xu Shiyou's complaints, some people are very dissatisfied with him.
When Xu Shiyou was hospitalized, his colleagues and subordinates all went to see him, told him about this matter, and asked Xu Shiyou to prove his innocence for them.
Xu Shiyou was heartbroken, and said to his colleagues: "It's a big deal that we go to Sichuan to fight guerrillas, sichuan still has some of my old friends, can not fight or not, let them see if we are what they say."
Xu Shiyou told his comrades-in-arms about this incident, of course, he did not deliberately encourage them to leave, but after this escape plan was leaked out, in the eyes of the Party Central Committee, it was Xu Shiyou who was colluding with the old ministry.
So the Party Central Committee tortured the general who had been fighting for a long time and took him away, and sentenced him at the meeting.
The final result, unexpectedly, they decided to shoot Xu Shiyou, a diehard! This is to show that the central authorities will severely punish the collusion of gangs and factions for their intention to rebel.
However, after this matter was known to Chairman Mao, Chairman Mao hurriedly stopped this trial meeting, and specially summoned Xu Shiyou to his room, and when Xu Shiyou entered the house, his hands were still tied, and Chairman Mao saw that he was tied, and he hurriedly asked people to untie Xu Shiyou.
After hearing this, Chairman Mao persuaded him: "We know that you and Zhang Guotao are not the same people, and Zhang Guotao wants to split the party. I also know that this matter has nothing to do with you, you don't want to leave to rebel, stay here, we all support you, we will not let you be shot."
This remark can be said in Xu Shiyou's heart, he just wants to fight, wants to take away the invaders, what kind of power, the army, he does not understand, nor has he thought about rebellion or anything like that.
After this conversation with Chairman Mao, the lump of the "Zhang Guotao incident" was finally removed from Xu Shiyou's heart.
He already knew that Chairman Mao did not have any official positions, was a very good person who understood them, and had personally changed his name before, changing the "Shi" in his name to the "world" of the world.
After all these things, Xu Shiyou decided to follow Chairman Mao to the death, and he himself often listened to Chairman Mao's lectures at the Kang Da, and he spoke very well about politics and military affairs, which Xu Shiyou particularly admired, of course, the main thing is that Chairman Mao understands them.

Xu Shiyou secretly vowed in his heart that he must give his mother a pension in the future, but unfortunately, his wish was not realized in the end, because the government affairs were busy, and when his mother died, Xu Shiyou was not by his mother's side, and this matter has always been in Xu Shiyou's heart, so that he could not let go for a long time.
So he decided to return to his mother no matter what, and for decades, Xu Shiyou often told his friends that if he died one day, he would be buried next to his mother.
He had already made arrangements for his own affairs, Xu Shiyou once sent a letter to his son, and the letter also sent back fifty yuan, which was the money he bought for himself a coffin, he had already thought about it, and when he was gone that day, he asked his son to buy a coffin for himself and bring it back to the burial.
In terms of filial piety, Xu Shiyou also has some of the persistence of the great filial piety of the old times, he believes that the body is skined by the parents, and the complete return to serve the parents can fulfill filial piety.
How sad it should be for the mother to raise herself so big, but in the end she was cremated into a pile of ashes.

Friends advised him: "They all say that you can't get drunk with this disease, you look at you, you have been in the hospital and you have not stopped."
Xu Shiyou was very optimistic about this: "Anyway, I am going to see Chairman Mao and Marx, what am I afraid of, and not letting me drink is my life."
After entering the hospital, Xu Shiyou's condition worsened, he could only lie on the bed, at that time he had lost the ability to move alone, his whole body was swollen and bruised, he could not take care of himself, and the pain had been tormenting him.
The hospital's critical illness books have come down, everyone knows, Xu Shiyou is estimated to have arrived, many old friend cadres went to the hospital to visit Xu Shiyou, from his sentence "I am finished" to know that Xu Shiyou is still afraid of cremating him.
Yang Shangkun reported the burial of Xu Shiyou to the central authorities, hoping to make a decision, but in fact, the leaders at that time could not get an idea, after all, Chairman Mao personally took the lead in signing this matter.
