Remember the middle school teachers and secondary school students more than 20 years ago?

On Teachers' Day in 2019, the special issue of the national magazine "Half Moon Talk" wrote an article to pay tribute to the "generation of middle school teachers and students"!

Tears rush! "Half Moon Talk" special issue: Tribute to a generation of middle school teachers and students! )

Was your teacher a secondary school student twenty years ago?

Don't underestimate that your teacher is a secondary school graduate, do you know what the secondary school equivalent of twenty years ago is today?

Now few people know what a middle school teacher is?

Middle school is the abbreviation of secondary normal school, in the early 80s of last century, because of the Cultural Revolution on the abandonment of education, a large number of teachers throughout the country need to enrich primary and secondary schools, the state decided to recruit students from junior high school graduates to enter the teacher training, 3-4 years of school system, after graduation assigned to local primary and secondary schools to teach, these people are called middle school teachers and students. Their entry age is generally 14-15 years old, and after graduating from 17-18 years old, they are assigned to teach in primary and secondary schools in various places, and only a very small number of them will enter the higher college for further study.

For more information about the history of teacher-student education, you can read the article written by Teacher Ren Rungang published in this magazine:

【Secondary Teachers and Students-Column】Reflections on The Running of "Secondary Teachers" in China and Its Enlightenment to Teacher Education (Click on the title to read)

The earliest batch of middle school teachers and students have been more than 50 years old, the last batch is almost 40, this life seems to have a lot of opportunities to choose, but there is no way to choose, their best results went to the middle school, the best years to the school, decades of change, we seem to be unable to say that they are buried, because they are the cornerstone of Chinese education, but they are indeed buried, the ideal is wasted.

The most bullish time for secondary schools should be the entire eighties and the first few years of the nineties.

At that time, the university's acceptance rate was extremely low! Mainly for children in big cities with better educational conditions. Secondary schools have become the first choice for the majority of rural children. To be admitted to the middle school division and secondary school is to ascend to the heavens one step at a time, go to the city hukou, solve the problem of rations, distribute work, and compile cadres. Directly in one step, from this life to hang!

However, at that time, the middle school teacher and the secondary school were really not good at the examination. There are tens of thousands of candidates in the county, and the top 50 have any hope of being admitted! It can be seen how strong the secondary school students were at that time!

If you take the current academic reference, the undergraduate degree is no longer enough to describe them. If they are put in the present, they can basically go to 985 and 211 universities.

Our class teacher once said that at that time, the junior high school graduation application for the secondary school should be pre-examination screening, the top ones are eligible to pass the secondary school, the top 20 of each school are basically going to read the secondary school, and the middle school teacher because it is a teacher training class, and there are stricter requirements, it can be said that almost all the students who can enter the middle school are students with excellent character and learning, after being admitted to the teacher training, in order to adapt to primary school education, the requirements for all-round development, the sound and body beauty are intensive training.

The students who were admitted to the middle school and the secondary school 26 years ago are the top of the top and the best of the best. At that time, only those who could not pass the secondary school would choose to go to high school, and the secondary school diploma could be at the top of the chain of contempt for all academic qualifications. Therefore, today's college students, whether you are now a high-achieving student graduated from 211 university or a 985 graduate, are not qualified to look down on the parents who were admitted to secondary school 26 years ago, and with their IQ, it is easy to get into your current school.

Because, at that time, there was a quota for admission to a middle school teacher or a secondary school, which was just like Tsinghua Peking University's enrollment in a certain region was the same reason. At the same time, the score line for entering the middle school division and secondary school is higher than the score line of the key high school.

Therefore, the students who were admitted to the middle school and secondary school in that year were not only full of joy in their relatives, but even the faces of the entire village had light. I remember when I was very young, a cattle man in our village was admitted to the middle school, and on the day that the cattle man received the acceptance letter, the village secretary made a decision on the spot: That night, a movie had to be screened in the village to show warm celebration. And which child is admitted to 985 or 211 now, is there such a grand atmosphere?

Those children, if they stay in high school, are entirely likely to get into better universities and be assigned to better jobs, and most of their lives will be rewritten. How good are they? In the next few decades, all walks of life to do well are generally teacher training students, whether engaged in politics or business, a considerable part of the teachers changed careers, became the elite of various industries, that period many government agencies to select talents, are directly selected from the school teachers, so that many local education systems clearly stipulate that teachers are not allowed to jump jobs, not allowed to dig people in teachers, even so, there are many through various ways to leave the school after the great success.

I remember a class meeting, my class teacher and we told her about her study experience: she graduated from junior high school in eight or nine years, the family conditions are not good, my father said, you apply for the middle school teacher, solve the hukou, go to school every month the state also has subsidies! At that time, when I was in secondary school, it was tuition-free, and the school also gave food stamps, and girls generally couldn't finish eating, that is to say, they went to school to eat and live, and graduation also included distribution. It can be said that some colleges are now incomparable, and can be equivalent to the current key undergraduate teacher training students (free teacher training students). Our homeroom teacher was the fourth secondary school in the county that year, the county key high school enrolled 400 people in the county (now enrolling 900 people), and the year when the class teacher read the secondary school, only the top 40 in the county could go to the teacher's training, and could only be a fresh junior high school graduate. If you do not get into the top 40 in the county, you are not qualified to study secondary school.

Let's judge that twenty years ago, only 40 secondary school students were admitted to the county, and twenty years later, 900 people are admitted to the county's key high schools, and nearly 600 people are admitted to the county every year, of which 985 and 211 have exceeded 400 people, even if the number of students has increased a lot compared with twenty years ago, but how can not increase tenfold. Therefore, the previous secondary school students were all excellent students in the top, and our class teacher went to the middle school teacher that year, because twenty years ago, the parents' concept was that students worked early, got employed early, and could work at the age of 18 in secondary school, and they could eat commodity grain and be a public family. Admitted to secondary school, you can usher in the envious eyes of many people.

Our homeroom teacher graduated from junior high school in 1989 and was admitted as the fourth in the school to get a secondary teacher, with a total score of 120 points in mathematics and 118 points, a total score of 100 points in English and 99 points, a total score of 99 points in physics 100 points, a total score of 96 points in chemistry, plus an indisputable language and politics, a total score of 640 points and 600 points.

If you think back to my alma mater, there were many secondary school students from twenty years ago who are still teaching in ordinary primary schools. If these teachers were given another chance, I don't know if they would have to go to college as well. In those years, most of the middle school teachers and students trained by the state were silently rooted in the front line of education, taking a very low salary, doing inconspicuous work, and they were originally the top students of various middle schools, in order to respond to the call of the state (the state encouraged junior high school graduation examinations for secondary schools at that time, in addition to middle school teachers, there were also a large number of secondary school graduates who also enrolled from junior high school graduates), and they filled in the volunteer of middle school teachers without hesitation, and because of tuition exemption, package distribution, and state subsidies for food, it became an important way for many rural children to jump out of the farm. In that era when there was a lot of waste to be revived and there was a great difference between urban and rural areas, it was a common desire to work early and make a living early.

When did the secondary school and secondary school start to decline?

There is a watershed in the value of secondary teachers and secondary schools - 26 years ago, that is, before 1992, the difficulty of junior high school graduates to enter the middle school teachers and secondary schools was not lower than the difficulty of today's high school students to enter the 985 University. After 1992, the difficulty of being admitted to the middle school and the secondary school took a sharp turn, and even showed a "big reversal" of "free fall", and the value of the middle school and the secondary school suddenly appeared seriously "depreciated".

It's 2018, twenty years ago this goes back to 2,000 years ago, and the middle school teachers and secondary school students around 2000 were probably the last batch of students assigned to the package. That is to say, twenty years ago, the middle school teachers and students were all assigned by package. Can be directly assigned to primary and secondary schools and kindergartens.

Time passed, and after 2000, secondary schools began to be unassigned, the number of admitted students also increased, the conditions for enrollment were relaxed, and slowly secondary school students changed from being excellent students to middle students. By around 2005, some universities and technical colleges implemented the 3+2 model, and the threshold for admitting students was getting lower and lower, and reading secondary school was gradually not the first choice for junior high school graduates, and high school became the first choice for most junior high school students

In today's 2018, undergraduate enrollment has been further expanded, colleges and universities have also expanded, and the admission rate of college entrance examinations in various provinces has reached more than half or even higher. Secondary schools are gradually not sought after. Therefore, from this point of view, the outstanding secondary school students twenty years ago are really no less than the current 985 and 211 college students.

Twenty years ago, secondary school was equivalent to a non-key university today

Thirty years ago, secondary schools were equivalent to today's 985,211 key universities

From 1977 to the mid-1980s, secondary school was equivalent to the current key university master's degree or above.

Twenty years ago, the secondary school degree was still a technical secondary school degree, and there was no difference from the current secondary school degree, but the connotation was different. Relatively speaking, under the college entrance examination system twenty years ago, the promotion rate is not very high, there are very few students who can enter one or two books, and it is also a good choice to enter secondary school, because there will be a good job after graduation. Now the ratio of high school and secondary school is 5:5 (6:4 after the expansion of enrollment in 2018), and secondary school is a helpless choice. Those who studied a little better went to high school, and the students who were admitted to ordinary high schools basically went to secondary school.

In the development of Education in China, especially in rural areas, they are the greatest contributors. It is not an exaggeration to say that they are the cornerstone of Education in China.

However, for themselves, to engage in primary and secondary education all their lives is obviously a condescending talent. Their quality, measured by China's current standards, is by no means the quality of a primary and secondary school teacher. I cannot say that high-quality people cannot engage in teaching positions, but with the current state's little investment in primary and secondary education and the low income from teachers' posts, what they have obtained is completely disproportionate to their ability and quality. The reason why they chose this industry was because they were forced by their low position at that time. When they enter the position of rural primary school teacher, the vast majority of them can only choose to end up in this professional position. There is a policy element in this.

The teacher said that at that time, the state stipulated that after graduating from the middle school, students must serve in the teaching position for five years before they could apply for the university. Most students lose confidence and patience after five years as teachers and then go to college; some students have become a family within these five years and have lost the motivation to go to college again. In this case, being a good primary and secondary school teacher with peace of mind is the most realistic road in front of them. This is a path of poverty but great responsibility. The various rankings of student examinations, the various assessments of teacher positions, and the various level ability tests have made almost every teacher breathless every day, and the income obtained is very shy. Many of them, when talking about the past, often have a sense of loss, lamenting that they have paid the price of their future in order to reduce the burden on their families. Of course, there are also a very small number of them, through their own efforts, admitted to universities, admitted to graduate school, become university professors, or achieve success in their careers. There are also a very small number of people who have made outstanding achievements in literature and art.

But in general, the state only provides them with a platform to be primary and secondary school teachers, and it is very difficult for them to create a better platform for themselves in addition to the teaching position, and they can only take root in the teaching position. On the one hand, it is their sense of loss of personal future, on the other hand, they have been educated by the teacher training profession and the infiltration of many teaching positions, and one by one they are outstanding in their professional ability. In such contradictions and anxieties, they struggled to move forward, contributed their youth and talents to the development of the country's primary and secondary education, turned themselves into a candle, and illuminated the hearts of groups of students.

Professor Xie Xinmao, who has been teaching at Lengshuijiang Normal School in Hunan Province for many years, commented on the generation of middle school teachers and students:

This group of people joining the ranks of basic education is indeed a great blessing for our education and even China's basic education.

Some people say that China's current basic education is not yet collapsing, and the key is that there are still these people there. After 1999, the country has successively cancelled the middle school teacher education, but let the primary and secondary school teachers face the situation of youth and yellow, few college graduates are willing to engage in primary and secondary education, willing to engage in primary and secondary school education work, and this group of middle school teachers and students, there is a clear gap, looking back at the group of middle school teachers and students 20 years ago, they should be the pillars of the country, but they have become the paving stone at the bottom of the pyramid, from this point of view, we want to pay a lofty tribute to those who are still engaged in primary and secondary school education!
