"How beautiful is the 'rainforest' under the sea? The first time I dive down to observe the coral reefs in the Paracel Islands, I was shocked and excited to find that there was a colorful world under the plain sea. White, yellow, purple, brown corals compete to stretch out their branches; rose-colored red sea willows, antler corals like deer antlers, white jade-like silty corals, bulky brain corals and coastal corals... Clusters and clusters, some like dense bushes on the slopes of a land, some like flowers blooming on the bottom of the sea, some like blue bare brains, with superficial ravines..."
On May 31, the Guangzhou Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held a report on scientific and technological innovation values with the theme of "Stressing Patriotic Dedication and Being the Pioneer of the Times", and invited Wang Min, a researcher at the Qinghai Salt Lake Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Huang Hui, a researcher at the South China Sea Institute of Oceanography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, to make special reports. At the meeting, Huang Hui played photos of coral reefs while speaking, which made more than 100 listeners present from time to time express their admiration.
Huang Hui has been engaged in coral biology and coral reef ecology since working at the South China Sea Institute of Oceanography in September 1996. From Fujian and Guangdong to the coast of Guangxi, from Hainan Island to the Xisha Islands and other islands and reefs, China's coral reef distribution of the sea, have left her and her team's investigation footprints. She laughed and said that she had "divened" all the coral reefs in our country.
Nowadays, diving is a popular tourism experience project, but for Huang Hui, it is a difficult daily work. "Going to sea not only has to endure the dizziness caused by seasickness, but also a set of 30-pound diving equipment, for women, it is very difficult to stand up on their backs, so I can't step into the water, I can only roll into the water, sit on the boat with my back to the sea, and roll into the sea." She said: "Because the sea still surges during the dive, sometimes vomiting in the water, we have practiced the technique of biting the respirator and vomiting in the sea." ”
Day after day, year after year. In the past 20 years, Huang Hui's team has put forward the grand idea of artificial restoration of damaged coral reefs and explored technical methods suitable for the restoration of different types of coral reefs, mastered the sexual reproduction process of more than 20 common reef-building stony corals in China's waters, and realized artificial larval cultivation for the first time in China, laying a solid foundation for the artificial restoration of coral reefs.
"I love not only your mighty body, but also the position you insist on, the land under your feet." Huang Hui quoted this poem to express his love for scientific research work, which aroused strong resonance among the backbone of scientific research and students present.
