Cheng Fangwu (1897-1984), formerly known as Cheng Hao, the character imitation wu, once used the pen names Shi Housheng, FangMing, etc., a native of Langtang Town, Xinhua County. Proletarian revolutionary, important representative of the new cultural movement, educator, writer and translator.
In 1910, he went to Japan to study, and in 1916, he entered the Military Creation Department of Tokyo Imperial University. In 1921, he returned to China and initiated the establishment of the Creation Society with Guo Moruo and others, and participated in the editing of the quarterly magazine "Creation", "Creation Weekly", "Flood" and so on. In 1924, he became a professor at Guangdong University and an instructor at the Whampoa Military Academy. In 1928, he went to France and joined the Communist Party of China in Paris, editing the Red Light.
In 1931, he returned to China and served as the propaganda director of the Eyu-Anhui Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, the chairman of the Provincial Soviet Cultural Committee, the secretary of the Hong'an Central County Committee, and a member of the Central Government of the Chinese Soviet Republic. In October 1934, he accompanied the Long March of the Central Red Army and arrived in northern Shaanxi in 1935, where he successively served as provost and senior class teacher of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, president of the Northern Shaanxi Public School, president of North China Union University, chairman of the Jin-Cha-Ji Border Region Senate, member of the Jin-Cha-Ji Central Bureau of the CPC, and president of Northern Culture Magazine. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he successively served as vice president of Chinese University, president of Northeast Normal University, president of Shandong University, vice chairman of Shandong Province of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, adviser of the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, president of Xiangtan University, president of Chinese University, and honorary president. He is a deputy to the Seventh, Eighth and Twelfth National Congresses of the Communist Party of China, a member of the First National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the Standing Committee of the Fifth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and a member of the Central Advisory Committee.
He is the author of "Memoirs of the Long March", the translation of "The Communist Manifesto" (cooperation), and the publication of "Chengfangwu Anthology" and so on.
The former residence of Lixi Village, Langtang Town, Xinhua County, was originally a courtyard with a white parapet. In 1960, the state built the Zhexi Reservoir in the middle and lower reaches of the Zijiang River, and the only foundation of the former residence was submerged. Located in the Loudi City Museum, the Cheng Fangwu Memorial Room displays more than 1,000 books, cultural relics, photos and other books, cultural relics and photos donated by Cheng Fangwu's wife Zhang Lin.
