"Wei Shi" refers to Jian'an poetry. Shi, the Ya and Ode of the Book of Verses, is called "Shi" in ten volumes, and later "Shi" refers to the Psalms.

This is the first poem of Yuan Haoqing's "Thirty Treatises on Poetry", indicating his motivation, purpose and standard for writing this group of poems. Yuan Haowen took the elegant tradition of the "Book of Poetry" as the "orthodox body" and believed that han le fu and Jian'an literature were a continuation of this tradition; in view of some ills in the poetry circles of the Song and Jin dynasties and the confusion of the "pseudo-body" and the han and Wei poetry traditions, he took "chiseling hands in poetry" as his mission, and he wanted to clear the source in the history of poetry creation, distinguish between right and false, and make it clear and distinct, so as to clarify the correct direction of the development of poetry.
