Sheep fly maggot disease is a disease caused by the parasitism of the larvae of the sheep fly in the nasal cavity of sheep and its nearby cavity sinuses. Some places are also called "brain maggots".

1. Pathogenic morphology

Adults are larger than houseflies and are 10–12 mm long. The head is large and semicircular, yellowish brown , and the base is expanded and smooth. The thorax is yellowish brown with black longitudinal stripes.

The worm breeds only one generation per year in the colder northern regions, and two generations per year in warmer regions. In addition, sheep have a higher rate of infection than goats.

2. Symptoms

When adults invade sheep to produce larvae, the sheep are restless, crowded with each other, frequently shaking their heads, spraying their noses, or pressing their nostrils against the ground, or burying their heads under the belly or legs of another sheep. Serous or purulent nasal fluid flows out of the nasal cavity, and the nasal fluid dries up around the nostrils, forming a scab, causing blockage of the nostrils and difficulty breathing. The affected sheep appear to sneeze and shake their heads.

3. Treatment

1. Ivermectin injection subcutaneously

2. Spray 3% of Lysul solution to the nasal cavity, spray 30ml of liquid in each nostril on both sides

3. 3% dichlorvos solution on both sides of the nasal spray solution, about 10ml on each side.

4, press 1 ml of 0.5 cubic meters with dichlorvos, put on a hot iron sheet, fumigation.

Fourth, prevention

1. Clean regularly, disinfect the enclosure, and clean up the maggots in the enclosure fence and surrounding corners.

2. Strengthen fecal management, clean the pen every day, and concentrate on fermentation of feces.

3. In spring and summer, mosquitoes and flies should be repelled in time
