Sheep-nosed fly maggot disease, is a parasitic disease caused by the parasitism of the larvae of the sheep nose fly in the nasal cavity and sinuses of the sheep, only in the hot season, especially in the summer, the adult activity of the sheep nose fly is frequent, and there is no incidence phenomenon in the cold and cool weather conditions of the early spring and late autumn, which is mainly related to the adult activity of the sheep nose fly. Let's talk about the sheep nose fly as a parasite and the measures to prevent sheep infection with sheep nose fly maggot disease.

Adult sheep-nosed fly occurs in summer and autumn, most commonly in summer, and is the season for flying to produce larvae. Adult insects resemble bees , with larger heads , villi on the surface of the body , and black markings with yellow , transparent wings , and an oval abdomen with black and silver-gray patches. In the clear weather of summer and autumn, female adults will invade the sheep, laying larvae around or in the nostrils of sheep, and female adults will die after giving birth to larvae. These larvae will migrate into the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, and even some larvae will mistakenly enter the cranial cavity into the brain, and by the spring of the following year, they will develop into stage 3 larvae, and then begin to move to the nostrils, causing the sheep's nasal cavity to itch, and when the sheep sneeze, they are sprayed to the ground, and these larvae that are sprayed to the ground burrow into the surface layer after a period of time into pupae, after 1 to 2 months, the pupa feathers into adult sheep-nosed flies, and so on.
Female sheep-nosed fly adults constantly harass the sheep, causing the sheep to be restless, showing bowing their heads, shaking their heads, running, etc., so that the tip of the nose is close to the ground, or hiding the head under the stomach of other sheep. When the larvae enter the nasal cavity or sinuses and begin to move, they irritate the nasal mucosa to become inflamed, and only secretions of watery, viscous, purulent or oily blood can be seen from the sheep from the nasal cavity, forming scabs around the nostrils. Because of the blockage of the nasal cavity, the sick sheep will have difficulty breathing, often sneezing, similar to human allergic rhinitis; flowers appear teeth grinding, mania, shaking their heads, rubbing the ground with their noses, etc., which seriously affects normal feeding, and the sick sheep gradually lose weight. When the larvae mistakenly enter the cranial cavity, the sick sheep will show symptoms of endometritis or echinococcosis (these two diseases will be introduced separately later).
Analysis of sheep with sheep-nosed fly maggot disease should be treated immediately, depending on the situation to take the following methods:
1. Fumigation method
Seal the doors and windows of the sheepfold, the sheep are in the sheepfold, prepare 80% of the dichlorvos emulsion, according to the volume of the sheepfold per cubic meter of medicine 1 ml, the shovel or iron barrel and other containers are heated, the dimethodine emulsion is quickly poured into the container to heat for fumigation, people immediately leave, let the sheep inhale the smoke for 10-15 minutes, such fumigation is better to kill the larvae.
2. Rinse nasal cavity or take internally
For individual sheep with disease, the nasal cavity can be rinsed with 5% dimethoate solution or dichlorvos solution, so that the larvae are poisoned and killed; it can also be taken internally with 5% dichlorvos solution, 5 ml per kilogram of body weight, once a day for 2 days.
1. In the season of adult activity of sheep nose fly, the nasal mirror of the sheep can be applied with 1% dimethodium or dichlorvos solution, once a day, which can prevent adult worms from laying eggs or kill insect eggs;
2, in addition, in the morning and evening cool time grazing, sheep nose fly adult insect activity is less, not easy to be infected;
3. Captivity can be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and wormwood or mosquito coils can be lit in the pen to drive away adult sheep-nosed flies.
Sheep nose fly maggot disease is easy to be ignored by farmers, and it is also easy to ignore or misdiagnose in veterinary clinics, so it is best to prevent it in advance.
