Mr. Wang Wei, honorary member of the Henan Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the fourth director of the China Artists Association, the honorary chairman of the Henan Artists Association, the consultant of the Henan Provincial Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, the librarian of the Henan Provincial Research Museum of Literature and History, and the former director and professor of the Fine Arts Department of Henan University, died in Zhengzhou at the age of 90 on November 9, 2020 at 6:30 a.m. due to ineffective medical treatment.
Mr. Wang Wei was born in 1930 in Qixian County, Henan Province. In middle school, mr. Lu Foting was a teacher, and he learned to paint Chinese painters with brush figures and landscape paintings. He graduated from Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (now China Academy of Art) in 1958. He has successively served as the art editor of Henan Popular Daily, Henan Pictorial, and Benliu Magazine. In 1959, he engaged in art education and taught in the Fine Arts Department of Zhengzhou Academy of Arts and the Fine Arts Department of Henan University. He has successively served as department chair, professor, and master tutor. He began publishing in 1950 and held four solo exhibitions in 1962, 1978, 1996 and 2010. 13 works are collected by the National Art Museum of China, and his art works are stable and rigorous, simple and natural, and have a strong atmosphere of life. In June 1996, he won the honor of "China Lu Xun Printmaking Award", in May 2004 he won the title of "Henan Province Virtue and Art Shuangxin Artist", and in 2000, he was awarded the "Sixty Years Medal for Engaging in New Chinese Literary and Art Work" by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. He has published "Wang Wei Sketch collection", "Wang Wei prints", "Wang Wei Landscape Painting Selection", "Wang Wei Fan Painting Selection" and so on. He once served as the fourth director of the China Artists Association, the chairman of the Henan Provincial Artists Association, the director of the China Printmakers Association, the honorary member of the Henan Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the honorary chairman of the Henan Provincial Artists Association, and the librarian of the Henan Provincial Museum of Culture and History.
Since 1950, Mr. Wang Wei has cultivated many outstanding talents in the art world for Henan, such as Ma Guoqiang, Li Bo'an, Wang Hongjian, Wang Yingsheng, Xiao Hong, Xie Bingyi, Li Ming, Yuan Rubo, Han Xue, and other painters, he has created and published a large number of profound and artistic prints, Chinese landscape paintings, participated in large-scale painting exhibitions at home and abroad, and 13 works were collected by the National Art Museum of China. Mr. Wang Wei is good at printmaking and Chinese painting, and was created in the 1950s, "Old Zhao's Donkey Also Brought In" and "Spring Ploughing"; "Cotton Girl" in the sixties, "Spring Warms Out of Ploughing Early"; A number of works in the 1980s, such as "Spring to the Central Plains" and "Red in the Mountains", all have a strong atmosphere of life and the characteristics of the times; "Listening to Tao", "There Are Millions of Heroes in the Chest", "Chairman Mao in Yan'an", etc., are exquisite and skilled in techniques, and the composition is strange and positive, and the courage is grand and profound.
After retiring, Wang Wei shifted his main energy to the creation of landscape paintings, and he modestly said: "It is not difficult to paint a painting, and it is really difficult to paint a work with a little artistic taste or a little artistic appeal." ”
Mr. Wang Wei can grasp the two magic weapons of "tradition" and "sketching", inherit the painting style of the Northern Song Dynasty, the works are extremely good at leaving blank and using virtual, he has almost traveled through the vast landscapes and rivers of China, and almost every work is derived from the sketching of the field, overflowing with the texture of life.
