Wang Wei, a 90-year-old famous printmaker and honorary chairman of the Henan Provincial Artists Association, passed away

The surging news reporter learned from the Academy of Fine Arts of Henan University that Mr. Wang Wei, a famous printmaker, art educator, honorary member of the Henan Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the fourth director of the China Artists Association, the honorary chairman of the Henan Artists Association, the consultant of the Henan Provincial Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, the librarian of the Henan Provincial Research Museum of Literature and History, and the former director and professor of the Fine Arts Department of Henan University, Mr. Wang Wei, died in Zhengzhou at 6:30 a.m. on November 9, 2020 at the age of 90 due to ineffective medical treatment.

Public information shows that Wang Wei was born in 1930, hui, and a native of Qixian County, Henan Province. In middle school, mr. Lu Foting was a teacher, and he learned to paint landscape paintings with brush strokes. He graduated from Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (now China Academy of Art) in 1958. He has successively served as the art editor of Henan Dazhong Newspaper, Henan Pictorial Newspaper, and Benliu Magazine. In 1959, he engaged in art education and taught in the Fine Arts Department of Zhengzhou Academy of Arts and the Fine Arts Department of Henan University. He is the head of the department, professor, and master tutor. He began publishing in 1950 and held four solo exhibitions in 1962, 1978, 1996 and 2010.

Professor Wang Wei devoted his life to the cause of art education, and during his tenure as the head of the Department of Fine Arts of Henan University, he managed scientifically, strictly managed his studies, and encouraged future learning, laying a solid foundation for the development of the art disciplines of Henan University. He has trained a large number of famous painters and artists, such as Ma Guoqiang, Li Bo'an, Wang Hongjian, Wang Yingsheng, Xiao Hong, Xie Bingyi, Li Ming, Yuan Rubo, han Xue, and other painters, making important contributions to the vigorous development of China's artistic undertakings.

After retiring, Wang Wei shifted his main energy to landscape creation. Wang Wei grasps the two magic weapons of "tradition" and "sketching", inherits the painting style of the Northern Song Dynasty, and his works are extremely good at leaving blank and using virtual, almost traveling throughout the vast landscapes and rivers of China, and almost every work is derived from field sketching, overflowing with the texture of life.
