After Zhang Zuolin became a veritable "King of Northeast China", Wu Junsheng came to Zhang Zuolin's side. In March 1921, Zhang Zuolin recommended Wu Junsheng to the Beijing government to make him the governor of Heilongjiang and acting governor.

After the outbreak of the First Zhifeng War, Zhang Zuolin appointed Wu Junsheng as the rear guard of the Feng army. In June 2, 1928, Zhang Zuolin announced that he would withdraw from Beijing by telegram and return to Shenyang. Zhang Zuolin had received a possible assassination of him by the Japanese, and in order to ensure his safety, Zhang Zuolin had planned to take the road to Gubeikou by car, but because the road was uneven, he finally gave up.

At the same time, his subordinates persuaded Zhang Zuolin to take the train, and Wu Junsheng said that he guaranteed the safety of the section from Yuguan to Shenyang. At 4 p.m. on June 3, Zhang Zuolin's special train arrived at Shanhaiguan, and Wu Junsheng specially rushed to greet him, and then boarded a train to accompany Zhang Zuolin back to Shenyang. Everyone knows what happened in the end, and Zhang Zuolin was killed by the explosion. At the time of the explosion, Wu Junsheng stuck a nail in the head and died on the spot, at the age of 65.
