Quick, think of one of the most heroic animals on earth.
If you think of flies – annoying elves who eat trash, multiply in and spread disease around the world – you're on the same side of Australian biology. Researchers at CSIRO, Australia's commonwealth scientific agency, described 5 previously unknown "insectivorous flies" species and named them after some beloved Marvel superheroes.

Black Widow Fly
One thing to say is that these insectivorous flies look very cool, and researchers want to give them a name for the wind. For example, one of them has a red and black pattern on its abdomen, so it is named after Marvel's Deadpool, because Deadpool's red and black mask looks exactly like the upper abdomen of this insectivorous fly.
"We chose Humolethalis sergius by scientific name," CSIRO entomologist Bryan Lessard said in a statement, "sounds like a lethal humor (a deadly joke), derived from the Latin humorasus, meaning wet or wet, while lethalis means death." ”
Other newly named insectivorous flies include:
"Black widow fly", Daptolestes feminategus, meaning woman in a leather coat;
"Sorphin", Daptolestes bronteflavus, meaning golden thunder and lightning;
"Rocky fly", Daptolestes illusiolautus, meaning graceful deception;
There's also "Stan Lee", Daptolestes Leei, which has black eyes and thick white whiskers, just like the famous comic book creator Stan Lee.
Carnivorous flies (carnivorous flies) are well-known ferocious insects that feed mainly on other insects, usually waiting in ambush and then attacking prey with saliva containing neurotoxins. The carnivorous flies are a large family with more than 7,000 members — something the Marvel Cinematic Universe can't compare. You can learn about the new members of this extended family from a research article published by CSIRO in the July 20 issue of the journal Astral Entomology.
