All Portuguese Bodencors may originate from two pedigrees, the medium-sized Bodencorna is bred from the large Bodencorna, and the small Bodencorna has nothing to do with these two breeds. This is similar to the khaki visual hounds, such as the Fanoch Hound, which spread from North Africa to the Spanish peninsula. The ancestor of the Bodenker may have been a small Iberian wolf. Large Bourdain and medium-sized Bodencors are closely related, but large Bodenkers are very rare, and the clever and cute medium-sized hounds are still much in favor, especially in the northern countryside of Portugal, where they are still used for hunting.
