Where did you get your inspiration?
Feminist artist Penny Slinger's powerful black-and-white work became the source of Maria Grazia Chiuri's design.
Penny firmly believes that women carry the burden of the world, like contemporary caryatids sculptures, which embody the form of women, wearing a smooth corset, or supporting ancient temple buildings or decorating some Parisian style buildings. Just like this, the white dress in the collection, black and white seem to be polarized but complement each other.

Penny Slinger never did anything.
She remembers the first "really finished" picture of her in 1952, when she was four and a half years old, and it was her parents — completely naked. They were very proud, but also embarrassed to show off to their friends. When she was nine, she was expelled from the convent school for waving sanitary napkins outside the bus window. A child psychologist told her parents that Penny's move wasn't out of anger, she was just an artist and they should do their best to support her.
"I left the venue completely," Penny said with a smile. "They're embarrassed about how far I'm going to push the boundaries, and those seeds were planted when I was very young and I just keep on that trajectory."

Penny Slinger entered the Chelsea Academy of Art in the late 1960s and, at the height of counterculture, vowed to become the most famous female artist of all time, "Madame Picasso". She went on to create some of the most extraordinary works of the era: the House of Spiritual Dolls, the Erotic Wedding Cake, the Quasi-Medical Anatomy, which aimed to destroy the distinction between the artist and the muse.
Her themes: female desire, conquest, rebirth may have made certain groups feel very trendy, but Slinger proved so much about the art world of the time that she disappeared entirely in her 1982 solo exhibition in New York.
"When you're trying to do something new," she says, "it's usually not accepted at the time, and probably most people aren't ready." ”
Stringer, 72, has proven herself intelligent and interesting and is an eloquent evaluator of her own work. She still has her 1970s scandals, and she retains the glory that is so evident in her work: the confidence to transcend. "My dream now is to make my whole trajectory of life and art recognized in order to be able to show all aspects of me. A good museum exhibit or something like that. For the sake of my relevance and wisdom, I want to lay a solid foundation for this. ”
And she did.
She designed the set of the show– flames, air, and flowing water colliding and evolving in a universe built by women that fight each other and are full of mystery.
Why black?
"I could write a whole book about black," Mr. Dior wrote in his little dictionary of fashion.
Designing a collection that is almost all black, embellished with only a few shades of colour to show power, is a return to the foundations of haute couture and a counterweight to contemporary lifestyles. Black demands a perfect interpretation, and in this collection it is presented in a variety of forms. Each haute couture dress is like an architecture, and the design structure gives it life. "We don't need a new form of architecture, we need a new way of life." Based on the same concept, the collection etched out an unprecedented reflection, a question of the body, fashion and habitat: haute couture became a creative experimental ground for people to think differently about clothing and its relationship to time and space.
