Beijing, October 15 (China News Network) -- On the evening of the 14th, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra once again took the stage at the 24th Beijing International Music Festival, offering a wonderful concert with the theme of "Singing of Life", commemorating the 110th anniversary of Mahler's death and the 110th anniversary of the birth of Chinese musician Ding Shande, focusing on the artistic songs and symphonic works of the two masters.
Mahler and Ding Shande "dialogue" in "The Song of Life"
The concert kicked off with the "Little Flex" movement of Mahler's famous Fifth Symphony. Immediately afterward, baritone singer Yuan Chenye collaborated with the orchestra to present Mahler's art song "The Young Devil". "The Young Devil" is a masterpiece of Mahler's own art songs, as well as a representative of the art songs of the late German-Austrian Romantic period.
In the second half, Huang Ying collaborated with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra to perform a number of Ding Shande's art songs.
Born in Jiangsu in 1911, Ding Shande was admitted to the Shanghai National Conservatory of Music at the age of 17 and began to systematically study classical music. In 1934, he recorded He Luting's piano music, becoming the first Chinese pianist to record a record. In 1947, he went to France to study with the famous composer Brenger, and went out with composers such as Piazzolla and Philippe Glass. After returning to China after completing his studies, Ding Shande created a large number of Chinese art songs and devoted himself to music education, and many well-known musicians in the new Chinese music industry came from his disciples. Works such as the symphonic work "Long March Symphony" and the vocal suite "Western Yunnan Poetry Copy" are still frequently interpreted.

The popular "Lover Send Me Sunflowers" was first sung, and Huang Ying's flexible voice fully interpreted this classic song. This was followed by eight classic songs from the vocal suite "Western Yunnan Poetry Banknote" and "Chinese Folk Song Adaptation".
The last track of the concert is a double concerto for violin and cello in C major, adapted from Ding Shande's chamber music work Piano Trio in C major. Zou Ye, the composer who adapted Mr. Ding Shande's art songs and chamber music works in this concert, used the symphony orchestra to expand the piano part in the original work, and while the symphony was vividly presented, the rich colors of the symphony orchestra were used to give the work more aesthetic interest. The collaboration between violinist Liu Ming and cellist Zhu Lin with the orchestra also reflects a high artistic standard. Every presentation of such an unpopular, wonderful and highly artistically valuable work on the stage of the Beijing International Music Festival represents the infinite respect of the Beijing International Music Festival to the history and future.
Beijing International Music Festival Emphasizes "Chinese Concept"
The works of Mr. Ding Shande staged in this concert were all adapted by the composer Zou Ye, who used "translation" to describe the adaptation of Mr. Ding's works, "Although Mr. Ding Shande's works are created for piano, they have a strong symphony in themselves. In adapting his work, the use of symphony orchestras added color to the preservation of all the harmonies in the original work. ”
In the view of soprano Huang Ying, the succession of mahler and Ding Shande is a kind of inheritance, and this concert is also a inheritance.
Zhou Ping, director of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, also believes that "many of the works of The older generation of Chinese composers deserve repeated scrutiny." When we talk about art songs, we must not only look abroad, but also look at these treasures at home. ”
