How did "Uncle Jewel" and his "Wolf Disco" catch fire?
Gem Gem, also known as "Gem Uncle" and "Uncle", his original name is Dong Gem, born in 1986 in Changchun City, Jilin Province.
In 2003, Dong Gem, who was in high school, fell in love with rap. When he learned that his classmate Lotus had his own band at school, he wanted to join, but could not play an instrument, Dong Baoshi made up a set of words to persuade Lotus to play rap together: rap is simple, and he can write songs if he can write lyrics. Later, the two built a combination called "Cicada".
They know some friends who dance hip-hop, because hip-hop can receive some commercial activities, and sometimes friends take the two of them with them.
Dong Baoshi remembers that the first time he participated in the performance was at an event of a sports brand, when the organizers felt that the program was not enough, and temporarily called them over. After the performance, there was no performance fee, but the organizer felt that they could not let the two of them perform a white performance, so they sent a headband to each of them, which is the first "performance fee" earned by Dong Baoshi's rap performance.
During the winter vacation of 2005, Dong Gem, Lotus and their street dancing friends decided to make a mixtape together. Therefore, the previous "cicada" combination was officially renamed "My People". They felt that hiphop should have a delegation in each city, hoping that their "my people" could become the representative group of the northeast.
At the beginning of 2007, the "My People" group was preparing to plan the establishment of "My Culture". This year, Dong Gem won the first freestylebattle competition in Changchun. The following year, Dong Baoshi, as a representative of Northeast Rap, participated in the special edition of Hunan Satellite TV's "Everyday Upwards" "Five Major Cities Rap Teenagers".
In July 2009, the label "My Culture" was officially established, and Dong Gem became its artist, with the stage name Gem Gem. "My Culture" mainly does Chinese style rap, after several years of operation, "My Culture" has become the most influential rap label in Northeast China.
Unfortunately, the rap culture at that time was still in the stage of taking root in China, and most rap lovers could not make a living by making music, and Gem Gem had been poor.
It is worth mentioning that when "My Culture" held a rap contest to "win the Kanto", Pi Ji won the championship, but Gem Gem did not agree with "Wu Ren Culture" to sign Pi Ji. Later, after Pi Ji won the championship in "China Has Hip Hop", he also specifically mentioned in an interview that he had been excluded by a well-known band in Northeast China.
In July 2016, Gem Gem released his first EP, Sample Tape: 29 Mirrors 2 Times in 38 Fields. In October 2017, he released his second EP "Your Uncle". "Your Uncle", which combines rap and steam wave styles, made Gem Gem so famous that everyone has called him "Jewel Uncle" and "Uncle Gem" ever since.
In 2017, Gem Gem also voted for the final stage of "China Has Hip Hop" as an audience judge. The launch of "China Has Hip Hop" became a turning point in Gem's life: he had the idea of making money by doing live rap to support his family. During that time, Gem Gem was doing live broadcasting while driving an online car, and life was still relatively hard.
In 2018, Gem Gem participated in "China's New Rap" as a contestant, but unfortunately did not even pass the audition. In October of that year, he released his third EP, YMC.
In 2018, the Steam Wave Music Group "Neon Future Society" invited Gem Gem to perform. Steamwave's performances are mostly in bars, and the audience at the bottom will involuntarily dance to the music.
Gem Gem adapted the music to this environment and began to create songs that would make the audience "listen and move". During this time, Gem Gem almost had the prototype of "Wolf Disco" in his mind.
In March 2019, Gem Gem completed the initial creation of the fast-food work "Wolf Disco". In a small range of dissemination, this song has received a lot of praise in the circle.
In June 2019, Gem Gem signed up for the "China New Rap 2019" and successfully passed the audition. But he was eliminated after losing to Sweet in the 60-second round. At the following resurrection match, Gem Gem sang "Wolf Disco". Unfortunately, in the end, I was not able to get the only resurrection place.
It is also for this reason that "Wild Wolf Disco" did not fully appear in the main film of "China New Rap", but the broadcast of the program still triggered the second round of dissemination of "Wild Wolf Disco", and the song began to become popular at the public level.

In September 2019, Gem Gem released "Wild Wolf Disco" in the form of a single, and the magical melody made the song "out of the loop" quickly and became widely known.
"Draw the dragon with the left hand, draw the rainbow with the right hand" is reinterpreted in various ways on the short video platform. In particular, Luo Zhixiang used "Wild Wolf Disco" to make bGM dance videos, which were played more than 4 million times on Douyin.
Later, when Gem Gem participated in "Hi Sing Up", he also specially thanked Luo Zhixiang, the "global promotion ambassador" of "Wild Wolf Disco".
After "Wild Wolf Disco" went viral, Gem Gem rearranged the content and found a co-mixed version of "Wild Wolf Disco" with Chen Weiting, replacing the original Northeast Flavor Cantonese with authentic Cantonese, making the taste stronger.
On October 17, 2019, Gem Gem participated in the Cool Dog Premiere concert and performed "Wild Wolf Disco" on the spot, which was too hot for a while.
Subsequently, the movie "Father and Son Boxer" invited Gem Gem to perform the theme song "Xiao Bao", "Old Uncle" participated in the "Fourth Season of the SpitTing Conference" as a guest, and also mysteriously appeared in Hunan Satellite TV's "Hi Sing Up".
At the end of 2019, "Old Uncle" appeared on the stage of Jiangsu Satellite TV's New Year's Eve concert. And "Wild Wolf Disco" was sung at the New Year's Eve concert of the four David TV.
Chinese New Year's Eve, Gem Gem, together with Chen Weiting and Zhang Yixing, took the latest arrangement of "New Year Disco" according to "Wild Wolf Disco" to the 2020 CCTV Spring Festival Gala in the Year of the Rat, and "New Year Disco" instantly became a national divine comedy.
