Zhang Zongchang's rise and fall

Zhang Zongchang is a man with many stories.

From 1925 to 1926, Zhang Zongchang was the most bullish year. After many years of sending people to the fence, he finally occupied a part of Shandong, Hebei and Jiangsu, and became one of the most powerful warlords in the country.

Zhang Zongchang's gain made the bandits in several northern provinces rejoice and rush to defect one after another, causing Zhang Zongchang's troops to change for a while, and the more they became more exaggerated, and it did not take long for more than a dozen route troops to come out, which further confirmed the rumor that Zhang Zongchang did not know how many guns he had under his command.

Zhang Zongchang's rise and fall

Among the thousands of warlords of modern China, Zhang Zongchang is the one with the worst reputation, low education, known as the "Three Unknown Generals": he does not know how many guns he has, does not know how much money he has, and does not know how many aunts and wives he has.

The so-called "not knowing" actually speaks of him in particular.

The first "I don't know", as mentioned earlier, is that there are too many bandits who have defected to him, and it is all up to the defectors to report their own numbers, report a thousand to increase a regiment, report ten thousand to increase a division, the troops are always expanding, and it is really impossible to count them.

The second "ignorance" is also genuine, Zhang Zongchang's rule is the most unruly rule under the heavens, all kinds of taxes and apportionments, almost no day, the scavenging is fierce, no one can match.

In addition to looting, Zhang Zongchang also has a large amount of money, that is, open smuggling and drug trafficking, in fact, this kind of thing every warlord has to touch, but not as unscrupulous as zhang Zongchang. The little warlord Sun Dianying, who was also good at this way, did not follow anyone for a long time, and he felt comfortable with Zhang Zongchang.

The third "don't know" is naturally not that people have wronged him, Zhang Zongchang really does not know how many little wives he has. Zhang Zongchang "carried" a lot of little wives with him, it is said that it is the "Eight-Nation Alliance", there are several countries, this gong is willing to take his aunt and wife team everywhere he goes, even in and out of foreign embassies is no exception, a team of horses and a team of aunts, this has been in foreign newspapers.

Although Zhang Zongchang said that he was mixed, he could emerge in that era of fierce competition, but he could not do without his superiority.

The first one, a bit of a crooked one.

Zhang Zongchang's rule of the army was a confused account, and the soldiers had neither training nor discipline to speak of. But he saw that the Chinese soldiers were all scared by the foreigners in that year, and he shivered when he saw the tall blue-eyed white soldiers.

Therefore, taking advantage of the Russian Revolution, the northeast was filled with the opportunity of exiled White Russia, and more than 10,000 White Russian soldiers were recruited, and every battle made these White Russians fight in the front, and the soldiers of other warlords and the foreigners who encountered these lost families were still weak.0 Therefore, Zhang Zongchang always won, from the northeast all the way back to his hometown of Shandong.

Secondly, it was a bit of a quick wit, when Zhang Zuolin was mixed up under Zhang Zuolin, Zhang Zuolin entrusted Guo Songling, who was from the Yang Academy, to rectify the army, and Guo had long wanted to take Zhang Zongchang to open a knife.

Once inspecting Zhang Zongchang's troops, when they touched each other twice, the words were forked, and Guo Zhangkou scolded, and the mother's voice was incessant. Who knew that Zhang Zongchang said: You mother, you are your father!

Immediately, Guo Songling knelt down, causing Guo Songling, who was many years younger than Zhang Zongchang, to blush, and the rectification was over. Obviously, this kind of quick wit must be matched with a good thick skin.

Zhang Zongchang's rise and fall

During the First Zhifeng War, Zhang Zongchang seized the opportunity to quell Gao Shibin's rebellion in Jilin.

Zhang Zuolin appointed him as the commander of the division and also the guard of Suidong Town, stationed on the border between China and Russia, with a quota of supplies, lack of equipment, and many soldiers with bare hands; when he went out to exercise, Zhang Zongchang led his bare-handed soldiers to climb mountains and mountains to carry out physical training.

One day, a miracle happened. He looked out over the mountain and was surprised to see a man lying in a ravine in the distance. This place is inaccessible, how can there be anyone?

So someone was sent to investigate, and the soldier came back to report that he was a foreigner who did not understand Chinese. From the costume, it looks like a Russian officer. The man was hungry and cold, as if he were sick and dying.

Zhang Zongchang's rise and fall

Zhang Zongchang personally went down the mountain to see. In his early years in Vladivostok, he spoke Russian, but he didn't know a word in Russian.

Upon inquiry, the man's name was Grörow, who had been the commander of the White Artillery of Imperial Russia. In the Russian Communist Revolution, he was pursued by the Red Army and fled into the mountains of the Chinese border in desperation.

Zhang Zongchang used his horse to return to the division headquarters, took good care of him, extended his treatment, and recovered his health more than ten days later.

Zhang Zongchang's rise and fall

Grusrov thanked Zhang for saving his life, saw that Zhang's soldiers lacked guns and ammunition, and revealed that in the ravine not far from Russia, there was a railway branch line, a train, full of ammunition, and several cannons. It was left behind by the Imperial Russian army, but there was no locomotive and could not move.

If Zhang can send a locomotive to pull back, the ammunition will be Zhang's. He also pointed out that the Red Army would soon come and that it must be pulled quickly.

Zhang Zongchang's rise and fall

Zhang Zongchang was overjoyed, asked for a locomotive from the Middle East Railway, led by Gustrov, and pulled back a train of ammunition, and more than three hundred White Russian soldiers followed, Zhang Zongchang took them all in and organized them into a White Russian regiment, led by Gustrovsk.

At that time, a large number of White Russians were exiled to northeast China, many of them were soldiers, most of whom were under the command of Zhang Zongchang, and soon developed to more than 1,500 people, becoming a strong combat force.

The commander of the infantry regiment, Niechayev, senior officers included Millef and Mihaiv, and the Russian-Korean Kim Jong-in (who had been the commander of the Cossack cavalry brigade), Kim Jong-heng and others.

This is the opportunity for Zhang Zongchang to change his fate, with this batch of mercenaries, it is equivalent to holding a trump card and just showing his fists.

However, he expanded his army too quickly and there was insufficient food, so Zhang Zongchang privately planted opium and sold drugs to maintain huge military expenditures. Zhang Zuolin hated drug trafficking the most and thought of demobilizing his army.

Zhang Zongchang knew that the crisis was imminent, the Second Zhifeng War broke out in the thirteenth year of the Republic of China (1924), when the two armies were facing each other at Shanhaiguan, Zhang Zongchang took the lead, led the White Russian mercenaries to attack the Ninth Division of the Zhi Army, occupied Lengkou, broke through the defense lines of the Zhi Army along the Great Wall, entered Luo County, cut off the back road of the Zhi Army, so that Wu Peifu could not take care of each other at the beginning and end, and the whole line was defeated. Coupled with Feng Yuxiang's Mutiny in Beijing, the Zhi Army was completely defeated.

Zhang Zongchang went to Luo County, and Gustrauf proposed to form an ironclad train, march west along the railway line, occupy Tanggu, enter Tianjin, go all the way south, charge into the battlefield, achieve brilliant results, won the favor of Zhang Zuolin, and gradually emerged in the non-concubine feng army.

Ironclad trains entered the war, and they were unstoppable. It was Gustrouf who formed the ranks of the russian civil war with experience in the Russian Civil War.

In the middle of the train is the locomotive, with two buses hanging in front and behind each for the soldiers to eat and sleep. The front and rear of the bus are hung with two covered tin cars, commonly known as iron tank cars, and the carriage is equipped with a layer of sleeper wall, and the sand between the wagon and the sleeper wall is used to resist enemy shooting.

There are two layers of gun holes on both sides of the carriage, and the soldiers on the carriage can kneel and shoot outward. The underside of the car is a machine gun bunker, with four bunkers per car, which can be strafed outward.

In front of and behind the iron tankers, one each hung up on the tin canopy, set up a cannon, and shot in the distance.

The front and rear of the iron armor car have a flatbed section, a rail sleeper and a track tool that should be repaired. Repair broken tracks at any time. Telephones are installed in each carriage for communication.

The ironclad train marched south to the north, established Qigong, and sometimes rushed into the enemy station first, killing a lot, and the reinforcements began to follow.

For example, in the fourteenth year of the Republic of China (1925), Zhang Zongchang, as the commander of the First Army of the Zhenwei Army, escorted Lu Yongxiang to Nanjing as an envoy to Su Wanxuan. Qi Xieyuan resisted, and both sides opened fire. Zhang Zongchang's White Russian mercenaries drove to Zhenjiang, and the fighting was fierce and they could not stand each other.

Zhang Zongchang took an ironclad train to the front line to supervise the battle, and more than a thousand White Russian soldiers, braving the artillery fire, killed and wounded more than 300 people, and the Qi army collapsed. This was followed by the Battle of Wuxi and another victory.

Qi Xieyuan thus went down into the wilderness, and Jiangnan fell into the hands of Zhang Zongchang.

Zhang Zongchang was very proud, took the ironclad train to Shanghai of the flower world, leaned on the red and green, and was happy in Shanghai.

His so-called "eating dog meat" is actually a gambling card nine, sensational north, Zhang Zongchang to do Zhuang, Jiaowa Xiang gang and other bets, he is using this big loose money, eat "dog meat" one by one.

There was an obese fallen princess who was a bustard mother, and suggested that two carriages be hung on the ironclad train for them to eat and live, and they were willing to serve at any time and "comfort" the mercenaries of the same town. Gustrov refused, retorting, "Can this still be fought?" ”

Zhang Zongchang stayed in Shanghai for more than four months and returned to Jinan.

The Zhejiang overseer Sun Chuanfang sent an attack to expel the Fengzhi army, and the two sides went to war in Suwan.

In order to prevent Sun Chuanfang from advancing northward, Zhang Zongchang sent troops, and Shi Congbin, commander of the 47th Mixed Brigade, led the army and commanded the battle. However, the general was arrogant and fierce, and could not suppress it, and encountered Sun Jun at the Jinpu Railway Guzhen and did not retreat.

Zhang Zongchang's two ironclad trains departed from Xuzhou to support the Feng army.

Shi Congbin took an ironclad train, but unexpectedly traveled to the vicinity of RenQiao and was plotted, and the mines buried by Sun Jun destroyed the locomotive of the train, and the train was suddenly unable to move.

The ambushed Sun army surrounded the train with superior troops and attacked fiercely.

Gustrov commanded the White Russian mercenaries and fought hard to resist. But Sun Jun bravely rushed to kill, and only two hundred Mercenaries of White Russia remained.

Seeing that the general situation was gone, Gustrouf ordered a breakthrough retreat, and he himself killed himself with a pistol, without losing his military morale.

The White Russian soldiers who broke through the siege could not escape the sniper, killing and wounding, and a few were captured. Zhang Zongchang's White Russian Corps and ironclad trains were finished.

Zhang Zongchang's rise and fall

After Shi Congbin was captured, he was shot by Sun Chuanfang. This caused another grudge, Shi's daughter Shi Jianqiao, who assassinated Sun Chuanfang in a Buddhist hall in Tianjin before the War of Resistance.

As for Zhang Zongchang, he also had no good death, and on September 3, 1932, the 22nd year of the Republic of China (1932), he was assassinated by Han Fu at the Jinan Railway Station. The murderer (Zheng Jicheng) is also taking revenge on his father.
