The phoenix snail is only a relatively niche group in the gastropod order, with a total of 92 species, and is a large mollusk that can be eaten. Mainly living in shallow waters, the shells of adult phoenix snails are about 15 to 25 cm, and the largest is recorded to grow to 35 cm, which is considered to be a relatively large conch. Their shells are thick and hard, and unlike other conchs, they have a bright outer lip on the shell, which is generally pink.

The most attractive thing about the phoenix snail is its peculiar eyes, both long eye handles have a complete eye on it, and the iris is black. Next to the eye is its antennae, and after the eye protrudes the shell, the antennae are actually responsible for inspecting the surrounding environment. Their eyes also have a peculiarity, if they encounter danger and damage the eyes, it will not take long to re-grow.

The foot organs of the phoenix snail are very developed, and there is a sunken hole at the front of its shell, where is the mouth of the foot gland. As it moves, the front end of the shell touches the ground, gradually and rapidly stretches forward, and then lifts the shell up and moves forward, looking like jumping on the bottom of the sea. This way of moving can crawl on the vertical surface, which can effectively avoid many potential dangers. Phoenix snails have the habit of living in groups, and can even reach thousands of them in many cases.

It is found all over the world, such as Mexico, the Bahamas, Brazil and other places. Due to its delicious flesh and shell, it has been overfished by humans, resulting in a sharp decrease in numbers. It has been listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora since 1985 and in Appendix II of the Washington Convention in 2001. In many places, the hunting of phoenix snails has been banned.
