Three cases of jellyfish sting were treated within three hours

author:Bright Net

After the autumn, jellyfish entered an active period. Yesterday, Dong Yunying, deputy chief physician of the Dermatology Department of Dalian Dermatology Hospital, received three patients who were stung by jellyfish within three hours. Among them, the larger and more seriously ill was a woman, whose legs were almost covered from top to bottom with dense dark red scars that looked like whiplash whips. It is understood that a week ago, the woman was stung by jellyfish while playing at the beach, although she was treated and medicated, but the symptoms did not alleviate, and she could only come to the hospital for treatment.

After being stung, beware of these symptoms

Experts said that after the jellyfish venom is injected into the human body through its stinging cells, it can cause allergies, poisoning, and even death. The stung part usually feels tingling and burning immediately, the discomfort will last for several minutes or even tens of minutes, and within half a minute after being stung, there will be linear erythema, papules or wheals and other skin symptoms at the sting site, and over time, the symptoms may subside or worsen, and in severe cases, blisters, exudation and other symptoms will appear. Some patients also have a delayed allergic reaction, and some do not appear skin allergy symptoms until 3 to 5 days or more after being stung by jellyfish.

Therefore, patients who have been stung by the sea must be closely observed. If stung by a large, toxic jellyfish, usually within 1 to 4 hours will appear chills, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, chest tightness, breathing difficulties, pulmonary edema and other symptoms, severe or even death, a small number of highly toxic jellyfish stinging mortality rate of up to 15% to 20%. The severity of allergic reactions is closely related to the type of jellyfish, the way, area, time, on-site treatment, morning and evening visits, and the sensitivity of the individual's own constitution, and patients with allergic constitutions, children, people older than 65 years old, and patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are more likely to develop disease progression, and special attention should be paid to.

Proper handling after being stung

1. Do not rinse the wound with fresh water, as this will prompt jellyfish tentacles left on the skin to continue to release venom. You can use a dry towel or clothing to wipe off the tentacles or venom that stick to the skin, do not wipe it directly by hand. If possible, alkaline solutions such as saturated alum water, 1% ammonia, and 5% to 10% sodium bicarbonate solution can be used to coldly apply to the affected area, which can remove the sting cells that remain on the skin and have not yet radiated venom, which can significantly reduce the symptoms of stings.

2. After emergency treatment, we must carefully observe, if the sting area is large, nausea, vomiting, chest tightness and other acute symptoms, to the nearest general hospital emergency department for medical treatment at the first time, first aid and treatment, in order to alleviate allergy or poisoning symptoms, to prevent life danger.

3. Pay close attention to skin changes, once a delayed allergic reaction occurs again, it is necessary to seek medical treatment in time for symptomatic treatment such as anti-allergy and anti-infection. Do not apply ointments and use folk remedies indiscriminately to avoid aggravation of the disease.
