Literature and History | Yu Shan's emotional entanglement with crescent moon talents

"Nanguo Society" when the red flower Dan Yu Shan became famous for playing "Salome", and became extremely popular. Bole Tian Han lingered for her, and the new moon talents Xu Zhimo, Liang Shiqiu and Wen Yiduo had ripples in her heart. Zhao Taiyou divorced his wife Ming Zhi and won the heart. Yu Shan's amazing beauty and extremely lethal charm have left a wealth of talking materials for future generations.

Yu Shan (1908-1968), a native of Shanyin, Zhejiang, had a prominent family. His grandfather, Yu Mingzhen, a former Qing Hanlin, served as the superintendent (i.e., principal) of the Jiangnan Water Teachers' Academy and was Lu Xun's teacher. His father, Yu Dachun, studied with Chen Yinke when he studied in Germany. His uncle, Yu Dawei, was an important member of the state government. Born in Tokyo, Japan, Yu Shan attended Nankai Girls' High School in Tianjin as a teenager and later entered the Shanghai National Conservatory of Music. In 1929, Tian Han went to the school to direct "Tragedy on the Lake", and was surprised by her beautiful appearance, seductive temperament and unique mysterious silhouette, a typical Vampire girl, and warmly invited her to join the "Nanguo Society".

Yu Shan stills in the play "Carmen"

After Yu Shan joined the Nanguo Society, she really lived up to expectations. In the second performance, he became famous for starring in "Salome". In particular, her "Salome" stills dressed in a dance dress, with heavy makeup and light makeup, kneeling on the ground on one leg, holding a silver shield in her hand, and a human head on the plate, wanting to see and afraid to see, fascinated many literati and scholars. Subsequently, in Tian Han's adaptation of "Carmen", she created the image of a gypsy woman who loved freedom and was full of resistance, and her reputation was even more in the sky, becoming a bright and dazzling star in the later period of Nanguo Society. Tian Han admired her acting skills very much, and even caused displeasure to his wife, and the two also had a verbal altercation over it. When Yu Shan emerged in the film art world, her father thought that his daughter's playing of a troublesome woman on the stage was not only offensive, but also detrimental to her own style, so he did not let her act again. Yu Shan's struggle was fruitless, and she had to tearfully withdraw from the Nanguo Society. Yu Shan's departure seriously injured the Nanguo Society, and Tian Han was even more worried and upset. He wrote in "Before The Separation": "Gold powder increases autumn water jun, and camellia flowers should be inserted into the clouds." ”

Yu Shan's charm on the stage did not disappear because of her departure, but more seductive. As she came to life, the crescent moon talents staged a comedy around her that was far more wonderful than the stage.

Yu Shan's beauty and charm made Xu Zhimo, a poet who was teaching at the Southern Kingdom Art Academy at the time, worship him. At that time, Mr. and Mrs. Xu Zhimo lived in Shanghai, and on the wall of their study hung a still of Yu Shan's role as Salome, along with a dance dress she used in the play. Once, Yu Shan went to Shanghai to perform, Xu Zhimo went to praise Yang, came to the backstage to see her makeup, Yu Shan suddenly shouted: "Ah, really damn, I want to pee, I want to pee!" Xu Zhimo heard this, so he looked around, and after several hectic movements, he found a spittoon, held it in both hands in a serious manner, and said aloud in his mouth: "Spittoon is coming!" Spittoon is coming! Later, when Yu Shan rehearsed "Carmen", in order to shape the image of Carmen, she often went to the door to ask Xu Zhimo and his wife for advice. Xu Zhimo's heart was full of flowers, and Lu Xiaoman looked in his eyes, and the vinegar was suddenly born. After Yu Shan left, she warned Xu Zhimo: "You can't use the analogy of Gu Hongming's teapot as an excuse to buy more teacups." You know, you're not my teapot, it's my toothbrush. Teapots can be shared, toothbrushes are not. ”

Xu Zhimo had to take back his admiration for Yu Shan and devote himself to the editorial work of Crescent Moon magazine. But Yu Shan's shadow often haunts her mind and lingers. When chatting with Liang Shiqiu, Yu Shangyuan and others, he still couldn't help but talk about how charming Yu Shan was. The speaker has a heart, the listener has intentions, Liang Shiqiu can't help but be moved, begging Xu Zhimo to introduce. When I met Yu Shan, I believed that what my friend said was true. In August 1929, when Yu Shan's "Salome" was performed in Shanghai, he went to the scene. Later, he wrote a review of "After the Second Performance in the Southern Kingdom on August 3" and published it in the 5th issue of Drama and Literature edited by Xiong Foxi. Maybe reason is better than love, or maybe he already has a crush at this time. In short, Liang Shiqiu has a lot of criticism of the "seductive" performance of Yu Shan as Salome in the text, hoping that "the carnal drama of the aesthetic school" and "don't act it out". Tian Han refuted him as a false Taoist, seeing only "very short and seductive excitement", and did not understand the meaning of aestheticism, and his words were similar to "the critic of a tabloid breathing out of his nostrils".

Tian Han's irony is not unreasonable, liang Shiqiu arrived in Qingdao, still can not forget Yu Shan in Shanghai, often in a letter to Xu Zhimo, ask her about the recent situation of typhoid fever. Yu Shan was very touched when she heard the news. After recovering from her illness, she came to Qingdao University, where Liang Shiqiu was the librarian, to "follow the benefits".

Yu Shan's arrival disturbed a pool of spring water at Qingdao University, making a group of crescent moon talents and well-known professors spring hearts, and setting off a lot of "beautiful news". Liang Shiqiu's explanation of "Yanwen" is: "First, there are lovers who have finally become dependents, although the results are not very satisfactory; first, the ancient wells and waves can give up in time, and they have not turned into tragedies." The former refers to Zhao Taiyou's suspension of his wife in order to pursue Yu Shan. Zhao Taiyou (1889-1968) was a native of Yidu, Shandong, who taught at the Peking National Art College, was one of the initiators of the National Opera Movement in the 1920s, studied at Columbia University in the United States, and devoted himself to theater reform after returning to China. In the autumn of 1929, when he was the director of the Shandong Experimental Theater, Li Yunhe was admitted to the school. A year later, the school was closed, and Li Yunhe went to Beiping to find a way out. After the "918" incident, she turned back to Qingdao and, through Zhao Taiyou's relationship, entered the library of Qingdao University as an administrator.

After Yu Shan came to Qingdao University, Zhao Taiyou, who did not smile, was shocked, and the hidden love feelings broke out madly and were determined to pursue. At this time, Li Yunhe also took advantage of the gap to pestering him, and often went to the Zhao family to offer his hospitality. In order to get rid of Li Yunhe's harassment, Yu Shan introduced her younger brother Yu Qiwei (later renamed Huang Jing) to her. Soon, the two were living together. Huang Jingben was an underground member of the Communist Party of China and later served as the propaganda director of the Qingdao Municipal Party Committee. In April 1933, he was captured by Shen Honglie, the mayor of Qingdao Special City, and sentenced to death. In order not to implicate Li Yunhe, Zhao Taiyou and Yu Shan recommended her to Shi Dongshan, director of Shanghai Star Company. After coming to Shanghai, Li Yunhe lived in Tian Han's family as Yu Shan's "cousin", and entered the film and drama circle in Greater Shanghai through the relationship between Tian Han and others under the stage name of Lan Ping.

After Huang Jing's arrest, Zhao used his prestige (then president of Qingdao University) to rescue him. Thus, it won the favor and trust of Yu Shan. In December 1933, Yu Shan married Zhao Taiyou, who was 19 years older than herself.

Yu Shan's charm not only made Zhao Taiyou irresistible, but even Liang Shiqiu, who was more reasonable than affectionate, also made a lot of "talking" about it. Xu Zhimo wrote in a love letter to Lu Xiaoman on June 14, 1931: "I saw Yang Jinfu again on Thursday afternoon and listened to a lot of things about Yu Shan. A good young lady, almost a university was broken up by her. Liang Shiqiu also has a lot of ugly looks, and when I think about it, we still show our faces, at least we haven't made any trouble. madam! Your generosity is the most admirable. From Xu Zhimo's letter, it can be seen that Liang Shiqiu and Zhao Taiqiu "competed for the wind and jealousy" because of Yu Shan, and Sven swept the floor and was ugly. Xu Zhimo's statement was also corroborated by Shen Congwen's letter to Wang Jizhen (July 4, 1931): "Liang Shiqiu is no longer 'classical', all because of a woman. Liang Shiqiu's fascination with Yu Shan only blossomed and did not bear fruit. But in the depths of his soul, Yu Shan could not be replaced. When his life was counting down, he often chanted the name "Yu Shan" in his sleep.

Zhao Taiyou (sitter)

When Yu Shan did not agree to Zhao Taiyou's marriage proposal, Wen Yiduo was also fascinated by this and fell into an inextricable situation. Compared with Xu Zhimo's frankness in love, Zhao Taiyou's persistence and Liang Shiqiu's admiration, Wen Yiduo was not lacking in courage at first, sending his family back to his hometown. However, as yu shan's relationship with Zhao Taiyou gradually became clear, he had to turn his fiery feelings into hot verses. This is what Xu Zhimo said about the "miracle of not ringing for three years, one blockbuster". Although some people have verified that "Miracle" originated from Wen Yiduo's "love affair" with Fang Lingru, it can be seen from Fang Lingru's "Poem One" and "Lingqi" that she "answered" to the poem "Miracle". However, there is a lack of stronger evidence as to whether this is the case. In the summer of 1930, Fang Lingru came to Qingdao University to teach in the department of Chinese, because her nephew Fang Weide (a rising star of the Crescent Moon Society) was a student of Wen Yiduo, and the two were in a superior-subordinate relationship. They all love the muse, and naturally they will have some contacts, and it is inevitable that they will have a good feeling. But that's about it. Wen Yiduo has a wife and children, Fang Lingru is making a marriage change, and she is two years older than Wen Yiduo (at the age of 33), Wen Yiduo cannot produce a "miracle" of "a you wearing a round light in the golden door of the half-enlightened". In his own letter to his friends Zhu Xiang and Rao Mengkan, he said that Fang Lingru only said: "There is a lady Here, Fang Lingru, Fang Weide's aunt, who can make poetry, there are things, there are things, only the wrists are rough, but I have a way, I can point her to a doorway." When Yang Zhensheng and others were holding a party in Shunxing Building, Wen Yiduo took the initiative to recommend Fang Lingru, so he was known as the "Eight Immortals in Wine". Like-minded, like buddies, how to come to "miracle" can be said. Nine times out of ten, the beautiful person who haunted Wen Yiduo's soul was Yu Shan. Liang Shiqiu, who was intoxicated in it, wrote jealously in the future nostalgia for Wen Yiduo: "In fact, Yiduo blew a little ripple on his own feelings at this time, and the situation was not too serious, because when the emotion just gave birth to a bud, he strangled it to death." Jin Jiefu believes that of the eight professors described by Shen Congwen in the Eight Juntu, "two of them are alluding to Wen Yiduo and Liang Shiqiu (only their academic majors have changed a little)". The innuendo in the novel is more obvious, the woman in the yellow dress may be alluding to Yu Shan; Professor Geng, it refers to Zhao Taiyou. The protagonist of the text, Dashi, undoubtedly has the shadow of Wen Yiduo and Shen Congwen's perception. Wen Yiduo knew that such a relationship would not bear fruit, and coupled with the advice of his friends (Xu Zhimo personally went to Qingdao University to "warn Yu Shan and ask her to restrain herself"), he gave up the "miracle" in his life.

From this point of view, the charm of "Salome" Yu Shan is extraordinary, Xu Zhimo said that she almost broke up a university, not false. However, Yu Shan's fate was unfortunate, and her marriage to Zhao Taiyou disintegrated after the victory of the War of Resistance. Because of her relationship with Jiang Qing, she was insulted by raiding her home and shaving her "yin and yang head" during the Cultural Revolution, and died in 1968. Perhaps by coincidence, in the same year, Zhao Taigong committed suicide by throwing himself into the sea, and Tian Hanhan died unjustly. Several talented people who were involved in it, Xu Zhimo (who was shipwrecked on a plane) and Wen Yiduo (assassinated by secret agents), also did not die well. Only Liang Shiqiu is an exception, and in his old age, he also staged an earth-shattering twilight love.
