As the monarch of the people, advocating etiquette and respecting the wise can rule the world; paying attention to the rule of law and loving the people can dominate the world, and greed for wealth and profits and good fraud will be dangerous. The best way to get close to the four sides is to stay in the center. Therefore, the monarch who is called the king of the world must be in the central area of the world, which is the requirement of the ceremonial system. This is what Xunzi wants to tell us that the king is the center of the rites.
He who performs what he does, and whoever does not do what he does, will drown. Those who have lost their small and who are chaotic, Li Ye.
Etiquette, like a person's shoes, walking without shoes, will definitely fall or step on the funeral. This means that etiquette is what people should practice, and if they don't follow it, they will fall and make mistakes. As long as there is a slight deviation in the ceremony, it will lead to a big mess.
Etiquette is also to the right country, such as weighing weight, and rope ink is also straight. The old man is rude and does not give birth, things are rude, and the country is rude and restless. The monarch has to be respected, the father and the son have to kiss, the brother has to be obedient, and the husband and wife have to be obedient. The young are long, and the old are nourished. Therefore the heavens and the earth are born, and the saints are made.
The relationship between etiquette and governing the country is like the relationship between weighing the scales and weighing weight, just like the relationship between rope ink and curved straightness. Therefore, if a person does not take etiquette as his code of conduct, he will not be able to survive in society; if he does not follow etiquette, things will not be accomplished; if the state does not advocate etiquette, the country will not be at peace. Etiquette is the standard of all social behavior.
There is no respect and inferiority between kings and subjects, no incivility between father and son, no harmony between brothers, and no rejoicing when there is rudeness between husband and wife. The young depend on the etiquette to grow up, and the elderly rely on the ritual to support the old. Etiquette is the cornerstone of maintaining harmonious social relations.
Therefore, the spirit of the liturgy is endogenous to the natural heavens and the earth, and the saints formulated the form of the liturgy according to the way of nature.
The speaker of etiquette and the spoke of the government; if the government is not polite, the government is not done.
Etiquette is the guiding principle of governance. If the governance of government affairs is not followed by etiquette, the policy will not work.
Kill the big fleas, towards the big night, indecent also. Governing the people is not polite, and the movement is trapped.
It is not polite for a monarch to start hunting too early in a year, or to go to court too late in the course of a day. If you do not follow the etiquette, you will have trouble when you move.
The waterwalker is deep and makes people not fall; the ruler of the people is chaotic and makes people without loss, and the one who is polite is also his appearance. The first king expressed the chaos of the world with etiquette and righteousness; now those who abolish the ceremony are abandoning their tables, and the people are confused and fall into trouble, and this punishment is also complicated.
In order to facilitate the crossing of the river, people should mark the depth of the water in the waterway to avoid those who cross the river from falling into deep water; the governing country must also indicate in advance what is a troublesome act, so that people will not lose their words and deeds. Etiquette is this standard, and the ancient Emperor Shengming used etiquette to indicate what was the behavior that plagued the world.
Xun Zi lamented that the princely states had abandoned the etiquette system, which was abandoning the standard, causing the people to be confused and fall into trouble, which is the reason for the large number of punishments today. If everyone can follow the rituals, do we still need so many punishments?

The main points of the ceremony: when the ceremony is used to serve the living, it is used to express joy; when it is used for funerals, it is to express sorrow; when it is used in the army, it is to declare the solemnity of the situation.
Xunzi tells us that etiquette is not just a formal thing, and that rituals have different essential connotations when applied in different fields.
Shun Yue: "Wei Yu ruled from desire." Therefore, the birth of the liturgy is the sage below the common people, not for the sanctification; but also for the sake of sanctification, not to learn; Yao learns from the Jun, Shun learns from Wu Chengzhao, and Yu learns from the Western Kingdom.
Shun said, "Wei Yu rules from desire." "Only I can rule the world as I please." The rites were formulated to regulate the behavior of the wise and the common people, not to make people saints, but they can also make people saints, but they cannot succeed without study. Yao had learned the ritual from Jun, Shun had learned from Wucheng Zhao, and Yu had learned from the Western Kingdom.
This means that Shun rules the country with etiquette, and the words and deeds of ministers and people are based on etiquette, so the emperor does not have to do everything himself, and the world is ruled.
