The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) shared Dole's recall announcement On Friday but said it had not received any illness reports at this time.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), listeriosis is an infection caused by listeria monocytogenes that affects about 1,600 people each year, with about 260 deaths. The highest risks are those of pregnant women, newborns, young children, people over the age of 65 and people with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women are also 10 times more likely to be infected with Listeria, and Hispanic pregnant women are about 24 times more likely to be infected. In pregnant women, listeria infection can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, or preterm birth.

The CDC and FDA say symptoms of Listeria infection include fever and diarrhea, as well as headaches, neck stiffness, nausea, loss of balance, abdominal pain, confusion and convulsions. However, the CDC says pregnant women usually only experience flu-like symptoms and fever.
