On May 4th, students from Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University joined hands on the stage of the 37th Shanghai Spring International Music Festival to perform the new era version of "Long March Suite". More than 230 young students participated in the performance, including the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Choir, the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, the Fudan University Student Choir, and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Symphony Orchestra. In "Farewell", "Breaking through the Blockade Line", "Zunyi Meeting Shines", "Leaping Over the Dadu River" and other singing sections, they use music to tell the story of the Long March and show the style of contemporary youth.
"Long March Suite Song" was created and performed in 1965. This vocal suite, depicting the Long March of the Central Red Army from Jiangxi to northern Shaanxi, is a revolutionary musical epic and a picture of folk music. The new-era version of "Long March Suite Song" with a resonatory has been staged many times since its official performance in October last year. The "Long March Suite Song" jointly performed by the three universities is a special performance of may fourth youth festival in this year's "Shanghai Spring".
"We hope that the new era version of the 'Long March Suite Song' will enable these young people to take over the banner of their ancestors in the second hundred years." Liao Changyong, dean of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, said in an interview before the performance, "The cooperation between the three schools in rehearsal is a good attempt, and I hope that more colleges and universities will study and perform together with us, so that the classic works can be better inherited and carried forward." ”
In Liao Changyong's view, in order to sing a good work, you must understand the connotation of the work, and when he instructs the students of the three schools to rehearse, he often tells the story behind the music. A strict doctoral student majoring in computer science at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, he has been a student conductor of a folk orchestra at Jiaotong University from primary school guzheng, and this time participated in the performance as a percussionist. "Long March Suite Song" has a strong national style, using many special percussion instruments, some of which he has never seen before. "This time, I cooperated with the students who followed the tone, and I knew the gap between amateur and professional.
