Khalid Mansour, special assistant to the Pakistani Prime Minister for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor affairs, said in a joint interview with Chinese media in islamabad a few days ago that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is one of the most important projects for achieving Pakistan's economic recovery and will create a win-win situation for the common economic development of Pakistan and China.

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a landmark project for the belt and road initiative, which began construction in 2013. In 2015, the Chinese and Pakistani governments determined the "1+4" cooperation layout centered on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and focusing on Gwadar Port, energy, transportation infrastructure and industrial cooperation. At present, the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has entered a new stage of high-quality development, focusing on cooperation in the fields of agriculture, society and people's livelihood.

Mansour said Pakistan is an agriculture-based country. Agriculture is of vital importance to the development of Pakistan's national economy and is one of the key areas of cooperation in the new stage of corridor construction.

"Pakistan will benefit from China's advanced experience and scientific research results in agricultural development." Mansour said that through cooperative research and development means to improve seed quality, improve tillage and harvesting machinery, increase agricultural output, and realize the modernization of Pakistan's agriculture.

At the Third China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue held in July this year, the two sides agreed to comprehensively build a health corridor, an industrial corridor, a trade corridor, a digital corridor and a green corridor. Mansour said the coal-fired power plants built and operated under the corridor use advanced international technology and meet high standards in both discharge and sewage treatment.

Mansour said the special economic zones built under the corridor will create industrial or manufacturing hubs for Pakistan, providing plenty of opportunities for domestic and foreign investors. "With the industrialization of the special economic zone, we are very confident that the relevant construction meets local and international environmental standards."

Mansour stressed that the construction of the corridor adheres to the concept of allowing local people to share the fruits of development and bring tangible benefits to the Pakistani people.

Taking Gwadar Port as an example, Mansour said that due to natural conditions, the local people have been lacking clean drinking water and electricity in the past, and the construction of Chinese companies has brought convenience to the local people's daily life. He said the vocational and technical colleges under construction, hospitals and new international airports are all giving local people the prospect of improving their livelihoods.

Mansour said that the new phase of corridor construction will continue to create a large number of jobs for the Palestinian people. "We will set up vocational training institutions in special economic zones, so that unskilled workers can be trained, upgraded and put on jobs, and then have the opportunity to earn money to support their families."
