2021 is coming to an end.
In the past two years, perhaps because of the epidemic, there have been relatively fewer whiskies that have broken records. But take a closer look, there are still some things worth paying attention to.
Let's take a look at the auction record of one of the oldest surviving whiskies in the world.
The bottle of the world's oldest bourbon, named Old Ingledew Whisky, was purchased by Wall Street financier John Pierpont Morgan and then topped the auction market.
The bottle of wine was auctioned publicly at the end of June 2021 by Skinner, the company in charge of the auction, with an estimated value of $20,000 to $40,000, and finally sold for $137,500.
*The University of Glasgow calibration shows an 81.1% probability of production between 1763 and 1803.
This estimate was revised by the University of Glasgow to a 53% probability.
In 2021, the University of Gransgow's carbon 14-year survey of the wine showed that the whisky was most likely produced between 1762 and 1802. The raw data were then evaluated and determined by the University of Glasgow as bourbon, with a 53% probability of being produced between 1763 and 1803.
Because this period coincided with the War of Independence of the 1770s and the Whisky Rebellion of the 1790s, this bottle of the world's oldest surviving whisky has a different meaning.
After watching the world's oldest whisky auction, let's look at the auction record of the oldest Scottish single malt whisky in history.
The oldest Scottish single malt whisky ever made was distilled in 1940 by Glenlivet Distillery and subsequently aged in custom-made oak barrels by gordon & MacPhail, over a century-old independent bottler. After 80 years, it was bottled on the market, with a bottling alcohol content of 44.9%, and the global limited edition was 250 bottles.
The first bottle of Gordon & MacPhail Generations 80 Decanter #1威士忌, which was unveiled at Sotheby's in Hong Kong on October 7 this year, was estimated at HK$800,000-1.5 million and finally sold for HK$1.5 million.
It is worth mentioning that in 1940, during the Second World War, the British Ministry of Grain reduced the distillation production of malt whisky by one-third to control the supply of wartime barley, and Glenlivet's production fell by two-thirds, so the whisky introduced this time was more expensive.
To make a grand gesture, Gordon & MacPhail brought in renowned architect Sir David Adjaye to design bottles and oak boxes under the theme of "The Art of Oak".
The bottle design resembles a single solid crystal block, and the jewel-shaped bottle has different facets, allowing the focus to be more on the rich color of the wine.
As for the wooden outer box, it is composed of a large number of vertical wooden strips, which obviously echoes the oak forest. The light and shadow effect presented when the wooden box is switched on and off is like sunlight shining into the oak forest.

The bottles are produced by the famous Scottish Glencairn Crystal Studio, and the craftsmen blow them one by one, so the 250 bottles are unique pieces.
The lot is accompanied by a barrel-head plank of No. 340 and an original hand-drawn concept drawing lithographic printed by Sir David Adjaye. Buyers will also receive a london whisky tasting experience for four, moderated by Stephen Rankin, the fourth generation of Gordon & MacPhail's founder family and director of prestige, in attendance by Sir David Adjaye. The proceeds of the auction will also be donated to the Scottish charity Trees for Life, net of the associated expenses.
Then there's Japan.
That's right, the oldest single malt whisky at yamazaki distillery: Yamazaki 55 years old.
The hottest person in 2020 is none other than him.
It was sold in January 2020 for 3.3 million yen (about US$30,000, 200,000 RMB) including tax, and sold for HK$6.2 million (86.496 million yen, about US$800,000) at the Bonhams auction in Hong Kong in August.
This price is a full 25 times more than the listing price.
Currently in a wine and spirits store at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol that specializes in high-end products, this Yamazaki 55-year-old is being auctioned online and is now priced at €675,000 ($788,000), with days to go until the auction ends.
Can you break the record again? We'll see.
McAllen repeatedly broke auction records We are not surprised, the whole barrel of McAllen original wine auction, we also just witnessed at the Bonhams auction in August:
But what about a barrel of McAllen 1991+NFC for $2.3 million, and it's a "unique" record?
The news goes like this:
Simply put, a 1991 Macallan bucket plus a specially commissioned NFT work formed a lot called "The Angle's Share", hosted by the NFT market Metacask, which sold for $2.33 million.
(Does it feel like you understand every word, but don't know what the ghost is?) When I first saw this information, I was also very desperate... )
It should be the hottest blockchain concept at the moment, and it is unique because of the way it is sold:
Metacask calls itself "the world's first NFT market for whisky barrel investment"
So for this digital sale, London-based agency VCL Vintners chose to auction a barrel with an irreplaceable token from NFT artist Trevor Jones. Instead of the usual barrel photographs, Jones was commissioned to create abstract digital art.
The work was bundled with a McAllen 1991 barrel and named "The Angle's Share."
Interested weiyou may wish to register on this website to watch this unique work~

No two leaves in the world are exactly the same, and nothing is theoretically unique.
NFTs are given a premium because of their "unique" properties, and I can't understand it
Finally, get back to reality.
The highest-priced whisky lot of the year appeared:
Daima Gilded Age No. 6 Collection Series~
1951 – Royal Estate;
1967 – Elaborate spirits;
1979 – Beautifully designed oak barrels;
1980 – Never-ending dreamer;
1995 - Creation of the classic image;
2000 – Towards the Millennium
The set, which includes six different rare vintages, sold for HK$8.75 million (7.23 million yuan), is Sotheby's's highest-priced whisky this year and the most valuable whisky in the Asian market.
The live auction was fiercely competitive, and another Private Asian Collector finally won.
Damo donated £100,000 of the proceeds from the auction to V&A Dundee, Scotland's first design museum, as a testament to a four-year partnership between the prestigious cultural institution and the world's fastest-growing single malt whisky brand.
For the first time and only time, the Gilded Age Six Collections bring together six landmark wines from 1951, 1967, 1979, 1980, 1995 and 2000.
Carefully selected by Chief Winemaker Richard Patterson, the six bottles represent the history of Scotch whisky and an important moment at the Daimo Distillery, and showcase the passion, dedication and expertise of Damo for more than 180 years.
From the oldest whisky to the first vintage released in the millennium, each represents the distillery's 60 years of creativity and craftsmanship.
The auction record of the Gilded Age No. 6 Collection is just one more record in the history of the Damo auction.
Damo, known as the "old wine bank", is also famous in the history of auctions:
In 2010, the "Trinitas" of Damo 64 was the world's first whisky to break through the six-figure price, and only three bottles were produced at that time, and today, each bottle is rumored to be worth more than $160,000.
When the Grand Morpaterson Collection was launched in 2013, it became the most expensive whisky collection ever made, having been auctioned by a young Chinese collector in 2017 for £1 million.
In 2017, the Damo "Brilliance" 1926 was sold at Kiev Airport for $ 250,000, setting a record for the travel retail industry.
In 2017, the 'Drew Sinclair' whisky was sold at auction for twice as much as it was estimated – £91,650.
Speaking of gilding, in fact, this series has a total of 3 sets of works, corresponding to 6, 5 and 4 vintage wines, named No. 6 Collection, No. 5 Collection, and No. 4 Collection. These series can be said to have witnessed Damo's pursuit of excellent quality in the past 60 years.
There are only 15 groups in the world, each with a unique color of the No. 5 collection (including 1967, 1979, 1980, 1995, 2000), which is an exclusive series for the Chinese market.
The rich red bottle cap and exclusive number 8, which symbolizes auspiciousness, will also arrive in Shanghai at the end of 2021 to meet wei fans who love Damo.
Let's look forward to it and witness it together
End Thanks
