Beijing, 6 Sep (Xinhua) -- On 6 September, the Xinhua Daily Telegraph carried a report entitled "Neighboring with the Master."
Changchun East Zhonghua Road, there is no Chang'an Avenue prominent, there is no wide and narrow alley hustle and bustle, quiet and ordinary.
If it were not for the purpose of finding out the household registration of the population in the jurisdiction, Zhang Xu, the new party secretary of the Peony Garden Community, would not have imagined in any way that this street, which is less than a kilometer long, once hid dragons and crouching tigers, and the heroes were gathered.
If it weren't for the sudden appearance of a long list of celebrity reliefs on both sides of the street, people wouldn't realize that through nearly 70 years, they have been neighbors with so many masters.
Lü Zhenyu, Kuang Yaming, Tang Aoqing, Wu Shishu, Wang Xianghao, Yu Shengwu, Gong mu, Cheng Fangwu, Gao Dingsan, Gao Gaohai, Zhu Guangya, Gongming, Yu Ruihuang, Jin Jingfang, Wang Huiyan, Guan Mengjue...
This street, one of the shortest streets in Changchun City, once lived in the first-class mathematical masters, physics masters, chemistry masters, ancient characters, and lyricists of military songs in New China... They came from all directions for the construction of new China, sowed the seeds of science and humanities in the northeast, and stretched endlessly on this thick black land.
They either live for a short time or live for a long time, spend a period of time here like a song, and also leave endless wealth for here.
The figures of the masters were long gone, but their spiritual fire was still burning.

Tong Duoduo, 4, had a great time on the train from Shenyang to Changchun. Years later, she learned that her father, Tong Dong, had been transferred from the post of party secretary of the Northeast Institute of Technology to the Head of the History Department of Northeast Renmin University (the predecessor of Jilin University). Until the age of 70, she still did not understand this arrangement, but she never saw anything unpleasant about her father. She thought that people in that era might all be like this, obeying the needs of the state and obeying the distribution of the organization.
The year was 1953.
Two years later, Tong Dong became vice president of Northeast Renmin University, and Tong Duo's family moved to East China Road. Since then, her life has been inextricably linked to East China Road.
In the 1950s, East Zhonghua Road was quiet and quiet without traffic. On both sides of the road are more than a dozen small buildings of different styles, and in front of each courtyard are thick poplar and willow trees. Pedestrians walk under the willows, avoiding snow in winter and cooling off in summer.
The Tong family's neighbor is a family surnamed Tang. Whenever the weather was good, the children of the family ran to the yard to play, and the adults laughed and said, "Sheep are herded again." Curious Tong Duoren quietly ran to the opposite yard, and looked at the "lambs" that were really full of yards. It turned out that the family surnamed Tang had six children, each wearing a clean white smock, running happily in the yard, really like a flock of lambs.
What impressed Tong Duo most was that this Mr. Tang was very good to his wife, and the first thing he said to his children when he came home from work was always: "What about mother?" "Whenever I stand with my wife, my eyes are full of tenderness. When she grew up, she learned that this Mr. Tang was actually the pioneer and founder of modern theoretical chemistry in China, and the father of Chinese quantum chemistry - Tang Aoqing.
1952 coincided with the adjustment of the faculties and departments of Chinese institutions of higher learning. In response to the call of the state, Tang Aoqing, who had just returned to China, did not hesitate to go from Peking University to Northeast Renmin University to establish the Department of Chemistry, and together with him came to start a career from scratch, as well as mathematician Wang Xianghao and physicist Yu Ruihuan...
Sometimes, when Tong Duo was writing homework, he would look up and find an old uncle sitting on the sofa, quietly watching her, smoothing the wrinkled towel on the sofa from time to time, and occasionally instructing her to read and write. He is Yu Shengwu, a famous paleographer in China.
Tong Duoduo had heard her father tell that Yu Shengwu had been invited by Kuang Yaming, president of Northeast Renmin University, "Three Gu Maolu". In order to "run a decent university", Kuang Yaming's first thought was to find a "decent teacher", and he set his sights on Beijing, and Yu Shengwu was a valuable piece of jade that he favored.
However, in the face of Kuang Yaming's invitation, Yu Shengwu refused. He said that he was already a 60-year-old man and did not expect any more twists and turns in his life. But Kuang Yaming was not discouraged, and he and Tong Dong went straight to Beijing to Yu Shengwu's home, sincerely exchanged educational ideas with Yu Shengwu, and portrayed the northeast as good as a flower. In the end, Yu Shengwu was touched by Kuang Yaming, packed up, and rushed to the northeast.
Gradually, tong many people had more strangers around them. But she did not know that the uncle with a thick and simple appearance was the only professor, proletarian revolutionary and educator Cheng Fangwu among the more than 30,000 Red Army soldiers in the Long March; mr. Feng, who had a small fire in his home and always smiled and nodded when he saw the children, was the originator of "Beijing school literature" and one of the most accomplished literary figures in China in the 20th century (Feng Wenbing); the uncle Jin, who had a good appetite for eating and spoke like a loud voice, was the famous historian, philologist, and master of easy learning; the one who did not like to talk. Teacher Gao, who is so serious that she is a little afraid, is Gao Dingsan, one of the pioneers of China's semiconductor industry; the versatile, basketball-playing young professor who can play the accordion is Zhu Guangya, the future founder of China's "two plays and one star"...
In the 1950s and 1960s, on the East Zhonghua Road, a group of natural scientists such as Yu Ruihuang, Tang Aoqing, Zhu Guangya, and a group of literary historians such as Lü Zhenyu, Yu Shengwu, Zhang Songru (Gongmu), and Cheng Fangwu were gathered... Among them were the old revolutionaries of the Yan'an period or even the great revolution, the great intellectuals of the Republic of China, and the great professors who returned from overseas... No matter what kind of background they once had, in order to build a new China, in order to build a northeast, they gathered on this East China Road and created a golden age that could be sung and wept.

In the northeast at the beginning of the founding of New China, even if these masters were given the best treatment, materials were extremely scarce. Twenty-seven feet of cloth tickets a year, sewing a quilt will take more than ten feet. Tong Many people remember that there were no curtains in the family for many years, until she and her sister grew into a young girl, and her mother changed a curtain with an old quilt, envying many children.
In her impression, Mr. Cai Jingsheng seemed to be the only person in the family who had a carpet. He returned to China after staying abroad, his seniority was deeper than Tang Aoqing's, but he was very humble and low-key. When he came to Changchun, he brought a large bag of small wrapping, which was full of microbalances, light receivers, glass instruments and precious chemicals, as well as important books and materials, which was a "meeting gift" he brought to Northeast Renmin University. In addition to this, he brought his own experimenters.
At that time, The Northeast People's University was poor and white, Cai Yingsheng and Tang Aoqing were simple because of their ugliness, and a few stools and a wooden board were set up to become an experimental bench like a pork board; without experimental instruments, they took waste ink bottles as alcohol lamps... With their unremitting efforts, Jilin University has gradually become a well-known research center for catalytic dynamics in China, and Tang Aoqing also founded China's quantum chemistry school under such simple conditions.
Tong Duoduo said that although they lack food and clothing, everyone's mental outlook is very good.
Yu Shengwu, who loves to wear a cardigan jacket the most, is the oldest of the gentlemen, but he is the earliest. At two or three o'clock in the morning, the east has not yet broken dawn, and the lights in the courtyard of The Yu family have been turned on. Under the reflection of the dots of light, the old gentleman wandered in the vast world of ancient literature, and with his interpretation, the complex and cold oracle bone script was no longer dusty, but had a modern soul reappeared in the world. According to the "Interpretation of Oracle Bone Characters" published by zhonghua bookstore, about 300 words of oracle bones that were not known or interpreted by previous generations and did not know the original meaning of their characters were examined and interpreted by Yu Province.
Mr. Wu Shishu of the Department of Physics is the most kind to people, but he is also known for his strict academic and student requirements. His graduate students rarely graduate on time. There is a son of a provincial leader who studied for 5 years before graduating. But he was deeply learned and rigorous, and the students still loved to test his graduate school. Daughter Wu Yaorui once believed that her father loved his students more than his brothers and sisters. Even in the intensive care unit before his death, he was grading students' papers. At that time, Wu Yaorui was also writing a doctoral dissertation, but Wu Shishu never asked.
Zhang Yiqun, who was born in the 1960s, is the son of the Jilin branch of Xinhua News Agency and lives on East Zhonghua Road. He remembered that there was an earthen yellow building to the east of the Xinhua News Agency office building, with three door openings, and one door opening to live in six houses, referred to as "eighteen houses" for short. Inside are all "very powerful" big people. There are oracle bones, there are military songs...
"These people are walking to work, carrying bags. When we see our parents and children, we all say hello. They often walk and play with children. Zhang Yiqun said that the learning atmosphere of this street was very good, at that time, there was a lack of electricity, the family was lit with candles, and the children were reading under the street lamp. Whenever the big people walk by, they always point out one or two.
Once, Zhang Yiqun and his small partner flew a kite, and a professor came out of the "Eighteen Houses" and looked at it for a while, and then told him that the square kite has a large wind resistance, which will affect the height of the flight, and if the bottom is cut into a semicircle, the kite will fly higher with little resistance. Zhang Yiqun re-modified the result higher.
In winter, academic masters will also make winter storage dishes. It was getting colder in September in the northeast, and they were working outside in tattered cotton jackets. Dried vegetables in September, picked sauerkraut after eleven. They also dug a pit in the yard to bury turnips, and in early April of the following year, they dug them out to eat when the new dishes had not yet come down.
Although they are already academic giants, these big figures also have a childlike heart. At that time, the essential documents of the Xinhua News Agency were sent by postmen riding satchel motorcycles, and it took more than ten minutes for the clerks to register in the agency. The driver took the children nearby to ride a motorcycle around the circle. Some of the old professors of the "Eighteen Families" caught up with them and saw them, and they would also ride motorcycles with their children and clap their hands and laugh happily together.
At that time, the family raised chickens, and the children went to the geological palace square on the west side of East China to catch dragonflies, the red tail was red pepper, the whole body was golden yellow, and the big green bean with a hook on the tail. He grabbed and raised it himself and fed it to the chickens. An old professor passed by and saw them, so he told Zhang Yiqun that dragonflies are beneficial insects, and dragonflies are more mosquitoes. "We'll catch grasshoppers instead." Mr. Zhang said the old professors, whose names could not be remembered, had taught him throughout his childhood, but had benefited him for the rest of his life.

The years turned into songs. East Zhonghua Road is full of fallen leaves and autumn is getting stronger. Tong Duo, who was already full of silver wire, looked at the 16 reliefs of famous people on the wall, as if returning to the time of a girl.
Looking for characters, digging deep into stories, visiting family members... With the efforts of Zhang Xu and others, the Peony Garden community where East Zhonghua Road is located has produced 16 reliefs of famous people to commemorate these academic giants who have left valuable wealth in the academic field of Chinese science and culture.
Zhang Xu said that these 16 masters are only some of the characters they excavated and sorted. In the days to come, they will continue to search. "The stories of the older generation in the black lands of the Northeast should not be buried by time. This era needs true masters and spiritual leaders. ”
In front of the reliefs of Kuang Yaming, Renming, Zhu Guangya and others, passers-by often stop by. Young people, in particular, look at the reliefs, with starlight in their eyes.
The masters are gone, but the spirit of the masters is far-reaching and long-lasting.
More than 60 years ago, under the arrangement of President Cheng Fangwu, Northeast Normal University opened four political theory courses: The Foundation of Marxism-Leninism, Political Economy, Dialectical Materialism and Historical Materialism, and The History of the Chinese Revolution. He attached great importance to the ideological and political education of teachers and students, and this tradition has continued to this day, and Northeast Normal University has become a leader in the national normal university with the cultivation of talents and excellent character.
In the Department of Chemistry of Jilin University today, teachers do not take lecture notes or read lecture notes in class. No matter how cattle the expert professor, he will give lectures to undergraduates. These traditions began during the founding period of Tang Aoqing. Because Tang Aoqing has a high degree of myopia of more than 2,000 degrees, he can't see the blackboard clearly in class, and all the formula theorems rely on UBM to remember...
In recent years, xu ruren and Shen Jiaqi, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who are over the age of old, have donated millions to the Tang Aoqing Education Fund of Jilin University. More than 60 years ago, they bid farewell to their hometown of Zhejiang, where the spring of the four seasons is like spring, responded to the call of the state to come to the northeast, and worked together with Tang Aoqing, a teacher and a friend, and once they took root, it was a lifetime. Their beliefs have influenced generations of students. In the face of all kinds of voices singing the decline of the northeast, in the face of other places to throw higher salary olive branches, the "post-60s academician" Yu Jihong, represented by the chemical everyone, insisted on staying in the northeast and fighting together with the teacher.
What impressed Wu Yaorui most deeply in his heart was that his father always regarded teaching as a very great cause. Today, she teaches at the School of Computer Science and Technology at Jilin University, teaching her father's words and deeds to every detail of her work: she always prepares lessons most seriously, re-teaching a course, re-producing lecture notes, and even "opening a small stove" for students who are eager to learn more professional knowledge. "My father also tried to make me leave the northeast for developed cities, but I thought it was cool to fight with him." Wu Yaorui said, "My father was very happy after listening to my choice. This is his root. ”
Tong Duoduo, Wu Yaorui, as well as the famous political scientist and jurist Wang Huiyan's granddaughter Wang Situo, and other masters and descendants have chosen to stay at Jilin University and keep the roots in the hearts of their grandfathers and fathers.
The newly planted willows are three thousand miles, attracting the spring wind to the jade pass. In the land of Jilin Province, from Jilin University, Northeast Normal University and other colleges and universities, from chemistry, physics, mathematics, philosophy, history and other disciplines, you can still feel the power of endless life.
The Geological Palace Square has reached the season of kite flying, and Zhang Yiqun vaguely saw that those grandfathers and uncles who he could not name pointed out to him how kites could fly higher... (End)
