What should a novel's protagonist look like?

However, in the martial arts novels of Mr. Jin Yong, a master of a generation, the protagonists are mostly flawed. For example, Duan Yu and Xuan Zhu in "Tianlong Eight Parts", these two people stay one and one stupid.
Duan Yu is the son of the prince of Dali, and it is reasonable to say that as a little prince, he has been accustomed to big scenes since he was a child. However, Duan Yu walked in the rivers and lakes, just like a nerd, without the slightest scheming, and his heart was simple, that is, he was lucky and did not meet bad people.
If you meet someone with ulterior motives, sell Duan Yu and give him money to count people. Duan Yu is a nerd, and there are only beautiful women in his eyes, only Wang Yuyan. Such a person who is neither smart nor diligent, Jin Yong has made him a top master.
If Duan Yu is relatively dull, the virtual bamboo is stupid, and the brain of the virtual bamboo is even inferior to that of an ordinary passerby, giving people the feeling that it is stupid. There is also Guo Jing, who is called a stupid, and he is disgusted by Master Ke Zhen at every turn, and Hong Qigong is also suspicious of Guo Jing's stupidity.

There is also Guo Jing, who has been practicing the eight words of "the great hero, for the country and the people" all his life, although he looks stupid, he is wise and foolish, does not care about small things, and has a heart of great love.
Second, weave fairy tales
Although fairy tales are all deceitful, people know it and still like fairy tales, because fairy tales can make us spiritually satisfied. Su Shi once wrote a poem:
May the children be foolish and reckless, and there be no disasters and no difficulties to the secretary of state
Su Shi felt that he was smart for a lifetime, and sometimes he was too smart, but he was unhappy. From these two poems, it is a pity to see that Su Shi hopes that the child will not be so smart, as long as he is blessed, even if he is stupid and dull.
Jin Yong's works are, in a way, like fairy tales, so beautiful and idealized. The protagonist has never been a powerful person, but he can reach the top status of the jianghu step by step, which makes people inevitably have a little more fantasy.
Third, cater to the public
Reading novels is to have a sense of substitution, so that it is exciting to look at, and most of the protagonists in Jin Yong's pen symbolize the general public, and at first they were just ordinary people. Since they are ordinary people, they inevitably have all kinds of flaws, not so perfect.
However, as long as you are full of hope for life, everyone has the opportunity to become a different character, like the hero in Jin Yongjianghu. Of course, the hero is not smart, the hero will be at a loss when encountering certain things, and he does not know what to do?
Is Guo Jing stupid? If you look at him from the perspective of a normal person, he is not stupid, but if in the storyline of the novel, he is not a smart person, and there are Duan Yu and Xuan Zhu, who just insist on some things and are not understood by many people.
