According to the US "Overseas Chinese Daily", there were two unprovoked attacks in Manhattan Chinatown, New York, from the 26th to the 27th, a 58-year-old and a 69-year-old Chinese woman were attacked one after another near Beng Street, and one of them was pushed to the ground and injured in the head. It is understood that the two cases were committed by the same suspect, and the police have quickly arrested and charged him with the crime after the incident, but because the case is a misdemeanor, the police will release the suspect after issuing a summons to appear in court (DAT).

In the early morning of Oct. 26, a 58-year-old Chinese woman at Bayard St. in Chinatown While walking, he was suddenly approached by a strange man, and without any verbal communication, the man directly pushed him to the ground, causing the victim to be attacked in the head. Less than a day after the case, a 69-year-old Chinese woman crossing the street at the site was attacked for no reason by the same suspect who punched the victim in the face and refused medical treatment after the case.

Chen Jialing, the founder of the Chinatown Block Watch, said the suspect in the two cases was John Cardinali, a 55-year-old white man who was arrested and charged with attempting to attack, but because the victim's injuries were not serious, the No. 5 Municipal Police Bureau only issued a summons to appear in court, and he had to appear in court on a specified date, but did not need to be imprisoned to wait for court. On the evening of the 27th Cardinali had been released and returned to the streets.

Mr. Chen said Mr. Cardinalli, who had appeared in the Chinatown community several times in the past few months, was out of control, often cursing passers-by on the streets and sometimes arguing with passing Chinese people, but had not noticed any violence. Chen Jialing, worried that he may return to the community to harass the public after his release, said that he had notified the members of the patrol to pay special attention to the location of the crime, and reminded the surrounding elderly groups to pay attention to precautions. He also said that recently, a group of Hispanic teenagers have appeared in Columbus Park to harass Chinese elderly people near public toilets in the park, and the patrol will increase its attention to the area.

It is reported that at the end of May this year, a 55-year-old Chinese woman was also attacked for no reason near The Street. Alexander Wright, a 48-year-old African-American man, punched the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground. Wright was charged with hate crime assault and other charges after the crime, and records show that he has been arrested 39 times before. (Yang Chengyu)
