Ronald Lee Ermey/R Lee Ermey was born in Emporia, Kansas, in March 1944 and moved to Washington with his family at the age of 14. He is best known for his role as Sergeant Hartman in the full Metal Jacket of the film Full Metal Jacket, for which he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Film.
He was also a U.S. Marine Corps soldier, instructor, film, television and voice actor.

As a teenager, Elmi was very stubborn. After leaving the army, Elmi enrolled at the University of Manila in the Philippines, where he became interested in acting, playing a helicopter pilot in the film Apocalypse Now and as a technical consultant to director Francis Ford. Coppola.

One morning in April 2018, three weeks after Elmi's 74th birthday, he died of complications from pneumonia at a hospital in Santa Monica, California.
