The scene of the symposium

There are two literary journals in Hubei named "Yangtze River", one is "Yangtze River Literature and Art" and the other is "Yangtze River Series". "Yangtze River Literature and Art" was founded in 1949 and grew up together with New China, and "Yangtze River Series" was founded in 1979, synchronized with reform and opening up. In the past 40 years, the titles of the journal have undergone changes - "Yangtze River" series, "Today's Celebrities", "Yellow Crane Tower", "Urban Novel", "Yangtze River Series" (hereinafter referred to as "Yangtze River Series"). The journal is now sponsored by the Hubei Provincial Writers Association and is currently the editor-in-chief, Liu Shiwei.

In 1979, under the leadership of Luo Wen, then vice chairman of the Hubei Provincial Federation of Literature and Literature, the Yangtze River Series was founded, and at the beginning of the magazine, when China was waiting for a hundred wastes and a hundred industries to be lifted, the main creators of the journal excavated a large number of literary "stocks".

The famous poet Guo Xiaochuan's narrative poem "One and Eight", which was previously rejected by several well-known journals, was published in the inaugural issue of the Yangtze River Series in 1979, and was later made into a TV series and movie of the same name, which had a huge impact.

Not only Guo Xiaochuan, Shen Congwen, Tian Han, Qin Zhaoyang, Nie Cyan, Ye Junjian, Zhou Erfu, Ouyang Shan, Xu Chi, Bi Ye, Ji Xuepei, Yao Xueyan, Duanmu Hongliang, Qin Slender Ou, Liao Jingwen, Liu Shaotang, Hu Tianfeng, Zeng Zhuo... Successively appeared in periodicals; and attention was paid to inviting writers of different styles and genres since modern literature to the page. Catching up with the era of literary abundance, the Yangtze River Series was once praised as "five golden flowers" with "Harvest", "Contemporary", "October" and "Flower City".

Participating experts said that the Yangtze River Series has made an indispensable contribution to paying attention to the growth of grass-roots writers, and many grass-roots writers have completed the "take-off" on this platform. According to reports, Chi Li's novella debut novella "With Land, There Will Be Footprints" was published here; in 1990, the Yangtze River Series, together with "Yangtze River Literature and Art" and "Fangcao", held a seminar on Liu Xinglong's works, "solemnly launching" Liu Xinglong and his works, who were still working in the Huanggang District Qunyi Museum at that time.

The Yangtze River Series is a commemorative issue

Li Xiuwen, chairman of the Hubei Writers Association, said that about 30 years ago, he first read the Yangtze River Series, and since then, throughout his middle school years, he has become a loyal reader of the magazine. He commented that the journal is "avant-garde and traditional, context and ethos", "so far, the new media has not been able to provide enough convincing literary standards, the spirit of traditional literary journals still constitutes the most important core of contemporary literature, dedication to it, is worth and happy." ”

As a journal with both creative and critical editions, how does the Yangtze River Series make an effective voice for literary criticism? This is also a topic of heated discussion among the experts at the symposium on the 19th in addition to recalling the 40-year journey.

Participating critic Yu Kexun believes that many academic critics today, from theory to theory, lack feelings about their works; some critics do not read the original works, resulting in comments that are not respected and valued by writers; and in the writing world, some writers' novels are getting longer and longer, like putting tap water, there are too many irrelevant narratives, which affect people's enthusiasm for literature, and suggest that the "Yangtze River Series" advocates the fashion of writing "small long stories".
