The Kimberly series of promotional films Red Diaries 2021 returns with a new project that pays tribute to Federico Fellini, "Fellini is Moving Forward"
MILAN, July 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Iconic Italian aperitif group Campari has announced a promotional series, Campari Red Diaries, with its groundbreaking project Fellini on the Move (Fellini Forward) returns, a project set in Rome in a unique new short film approach, using new techniques and machine learning to mimic the work of one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, exploring the creative genius of the late Federico Fellini. After the short film is produced, the organizers will present this one-of-a-kind documentary at the Venice Film Festival on September 7 and the New York Film Festival on September 29. The documentary will be released on pay-per-view (SVOD) platforms in multiple select markets, allowing everyone to explore the future of film and creation.
Since its inception, Kimberly has pushed the boundaries of creativity beyond the norm, unleashing the passion and talents of artists in different fields on the creative path. From world-renowned personalities to young and emerging talents, Kimberly's relationship with the arts, especially film, has strengthened over the years. The Campari Red Diaries series produced an ad in 1984 in collaboration with Federico Fellini, one of his few brand collaborations of the year, and in Campari Red Diaries 2021: Fellini Is Moving Forward continued the brand's tradition, combining creativity and innovation in the film industry with the most forward-thinking technologies. Thanks to the team of experts at production and innovation studio UNIT9, they have explored and developed specialized ARTIFICIAL tools to explore federico Fellini's creative genius in a way that has never been tried before. Fellini's niece Francesca Fabbri Fellini worked on the project from the very beginning with director Zackary Canepari, Drea Cooper (documentary), Maximilian Niemann (short film) and other staff members, and introduced them to some of Fellini's key colleagues, sharing her uncle's advice and first-hand knowledge, and casting for the short film, Costume design and script writing contribute. This seamless collaboration between humans and AI demonstrates how the combination of sensibility and rationality, emotion and data drive can create a whole new masterpiece of art.
Speaking about the project, Francecca Fabbri Fellini said: "My uncle Federico took an original approach, using fantastic elements as a way of communicating to express life. I think this project is the perfect way to commemorate his legacy. While he has taken a lot of inspiration from his past experiences, he has been looking to the future. The project with Kimberly takes a similar approach, using AI and being rooted in heritage futurism. ”
Fellini's original team will be involved in the production of the entire short film and make suggestions to provide key insights for the master's masterpiece. These include Fellini's cinematographer Blasco Giurato (Joker, 1970), three-time Academy Award-winning set designer Dante Ferretti (Rehearsal for an Orchestra, 1978; City of Women, 1980; Ship Moving Forward, 1983; Dancing Nation, 1986; Sound of the Moon, 1990), and the direction of Sartoria Farani Luigi Piccolo, a famous Italian tailor who has remade several costumes from some of Fellini's film masterpieces, including Myth of Love (1969), Joker (1970) and Armacord (1973). Everyone has the right to determine what content in the project can or cannot be considered Fellini style. The end result is a compelling short film set in the heart of Rome that explores Fellini's life and dreams, with unique iconic characters and layouts running through the city centre of Rome.
Documentary filmmakers ZCDC duo Zackary Canepari and Drea Cooper filmed the production of the short film and invited Marcus du Sautoy and Dr. Emily L. Spratt, heavyweight experts in artificial intelligence and creation, to the set to share their thoughts on the groundbreaking initiative. They also consulted art historian and Fellini expert Hava Aldouby and Galleria Campari curator Anita Todesco, who offered eclectic perspectives on the subject at hand, sparking discussions around the role that AI can play in creativity, among other things.
Marcus du Sautoy, an expert in artificial intelligence and creativity, said: " We should think of AI as an extraordinary collaborator, a new tool, like Galileo's telescope, capable of observing the universe more deeply than before. Artificial intelligence is a tool that allows us to analyze data on a scale that humans cannot match. One of the greatest achievements of AI in this project was the filming of Fellini's films, which were analyzed frame by frame. Using this tool in the creative industry is an extremely exciting step forward and will help find ideas that we are currently missing – AI can help us break through our own limitations and create new stories. "
Through Campari Red Diaries' 2021 series fellini in progress, Kimberly aims to continue the legacy of innovation and creation left by its founders, inspiring future generations and creators around the world to unleash their passion. Kimballi has also created a unique apprenticeship program where participants can participate in Fellini's Forward futuristic projects around the world, including the Experimental Center for Cinematography (CSC) in Italy, the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, and the International Institute of Audiovisual Sciences (CSIA) in Switzerland to explore Fellini's creative genius, use artificial intelligence technology, and introduce key members of the film crew at all stages of film production to see first-hand how the human mind collaborates with artificial intelligence to produce the short film. "When shooting on set, I really felt that the locations, the atmosphere and the characters were very Fellini-style! The most encouraging part of the project is the filming itself. From beginning to end, I saw the intersection of magic and fantasy, so truly fitting with the master himself and his art." CSC Production Design Graduate Giulia Bonomelli said. Photography graduate Andrea Munafo added: "It's very interesting to see how AI works in parallel with the human mind. I still think that without the embellishment, the movie wouldn't exist. ”
Jean Jacques Dubau, Head of Marketing at Kimbali Group, said: "We are delighted to return to our Campari Red Diaries project in 2021 to pay tribute to the creative legacy of Federico Fellini, one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. At Kimberly, we want to push the limits of creative innovation and have been practicing it for more than 160 years in order to leave a lasting legacy for future generations, prompting them to explore their "Red Passion"—a creative impulse that cannot be ignored. We hope that the Fellini In Progress project will lead people in new ways, past and in the future, exploring creative genius while enjoying an iconic Kimberly cocktail like negroni. "
Fellini Is Moving Forward will premiere and run a red carpet at the Venice Film Festival on September 7, and north America will be screened at the New York Film Festival on September 29. Subsequently, the documentary will be available to everyone on pay-per-view (SVOD) platforms in multiple select markets.
