"Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring": Life is the practice of reincarnation, just like the cycle of spring of the four seasons: the evil thoughts of human nature are eliminated through the enlightenment of the day after tomorrow: desire arises from obsession, and killing intention is hidden in obsession

In one lifetime, the grass and trees fall, and all things in heaven and earth follow the eternal path of nature between life and death. The Korean film "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring" tells the life story of a monk with beautiful pictures and rich and changeable themes, and through his experiences at different stages, shows the director's exploration of human nature, cause and effect, reincarnation and so on.

The media commented that the film was beautiful, simple, superb, and like a jewel. I think the reason why it is like a gemstone is not only because it is almost perfect, but also because it can be carefully appreciated from all angles and repeatedly appreciated. In the process, new thoughts or discoveries are made about the truth of the self and the world.

Winter to spring, the apricot blossoms downstairs have bloomed, but the epidemic is raging, and they can only be grounded at home. Revisiting the movie "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring", I remembered the feeling that the writer Mu Xin expressed when he tasted and read the literary works he liked:

"I've been talking to diamonds and gemstones for a long time."

A wooden door slowly opens, and a movie opens. The picture is introduced from the beauty of spring, and the story begins with the childhood of the monk.

This is a temple, nestled in a deep mountain bamboo forest, quiet, elegant, like a paradise isolated from the world. There is only one old monk and one young monk here, and the practice life is simple and regular, chanting, meditating, eating, sleeping, day after day, carefree.

The little monk will go to the jungle to collect medicine, catch butterflies, catch fish, catch frogs, which is a childlike heart, but also the closeness of man and nature. But the little monk tied a rope to the fish, frogs and snakes, and then let them go, and watched the little animals struggle, and he found it fun and enjoyed it.

The old monk saw the disciple's actions in his eyes, and instead of directly reprimanding him, he chose another way of education: taking advantage of the little monk's sleep and tying a stone to his back. When the little monk woke up, he found himself carrying a large stone, which was very uncomfortable, and asked the master to untie it.

At this time, Master spoke: "Fish, frogs, and snakes feel the same as you, right?" Find them, let them all go, then I will let them go for you, as long as any one dies, you will tie the stone to your heart for the rest of your life. ”

Mencius put forward the theory of sexual goodness, Xunzi put forward the opposite theory of sexual evil, and the debate between good and evil in human nature has been a proposition for thousands of years. This is actually a false proposition. Because human nature is never single, good and evil are one, and the role of enlightenment is to eliminate the original evil thoughts in human nature, cultivate compassion, and respect all kinds of life in the world.

The little monk in the movie, who is unaware of the harm his play causes to other lives, belongs to the unconscious evil. The old monk saw this evil and indoctrinated.

Compared with the clichés and rude reprimands, the old monk's way of indoctrination is much more advanced. He lets children feel the feelings of animals that have been hurt by themselves in personal experience, recognize mistakes, and sincerely repent.

This way of indoctrination is like Du Fu's poem: "Sneak into the night with the wind, and the moisturizer is silent." ”

The courtyard door of the temple is opened for the second time, and the season enters the summer, and the little monk has become a young man, and it is the summer of life.

Summer winds are hot, the jungle is deep and verdant, and snakes are winding and intertwining along the mountain paths. The young monk watched, and his heart sprouted. He leaned on the stone statue of the Buddha and looked out, and saw two earthly people coming from afar.

The girl was heart sick and weak, and her mother escorted her to the temple to rest.

She was young and lovely, and he was fiery. Two people, from the initial suppression and resistance, and finally compromised with human instincts, entangled in one place. They were drying firewood between the sun and the mountains. While the old monk was asleep, he slipped into her bed. They rowed out in the middle of the night and felt the joy of fish and water under the stars.

The two became intimate, playing and playing with various small pleasures. The old monk did not reprimand him, but just smiled and watched. He understood the nature of human nature: "Men and women who eat and drink, the great desire of man is preserved." ”

When the old monk sensed that the situation had reached the point of breaking the vows and that the girl's physical condition had recovered, he ordered her to leave. At this time, the young monk had fallen into the sweetness of love and could not bear the pain of parting.

"Attachment is born of desire, and killing intention is contained in obsession."

This is the old monk's advice, and the young monk who has been swallowed up by desire is confused, where can he still listen? After the girl left, the young monk tossed and turned, tormented day and night, and could not bear the pain of longing. In the end, he carried a bottle of Buddha statue and left the temple to experience the happiness of the world.

What is the life of young monks and girls like in this world? Kim Ki-duk gives just the right amount of white space here. In fact, the old monk's words became a proverb:

Desire gives rise to obsession, and killing intent is hidden in obsession.

autumn: sins committed by obsession will eventually be punished

The courtyard door of the temple was opened for the third time, and the maple leaves were like flames, and it was already autumn.

The old monk was getting older, his steps faltering, and there were a few more patches on his clothes. The passage of time, imprinted in detail.

One day, the old monk was sitting under the eaves eating pastries, and the newspaper wrapped in the pastries presented a news story about a man who had killed his wife and absconded in fear. Next to the text, he saw a picture of the disciple. As for the causes and consequences, the old monk knew it in his heart, and he turned out the monk's robe that the disciple had worn from the bottom of the box and sewed it up.

Unsurprisingly, the monk, who had reached his prime, absconded and returned, looking angry. As before, the old monk did not reprimand, he enlightened in a way that turned the wind and rain into rain.

Master asked the disciple if he had lived happily in the world all these years. In this regard, the prime-aged monk was miserable, he was full of anger, his language was rough, and although he committed the crime of murder, he did not realize his own fault.

"I was in so much pain that the only thing I was guilty of was that I loved her too much. All I wanted was the woman, but she ran away with someone else. How can this be, Ming ming said that he only loves me. ”

This is the confusion of the prime-aged monk.

"This is how secular life is, don't you know?" It is always necessary to let go of what you have. Don't you understand what you like, and it is possible that others like it? ”

This is the enlightenment of the old monk.

The prime-aged monk could not hear him, and he was overwhelmed by anger, remorse, and torment. He failed to understand that the love in his mouth was actually possessiveness with conditions attached. From a secular point of view, the girl's betrayal provoked his murderous intent. Thinking deeply, it was his own failure to understand the word "impermanence." Everything in the world is changing.

The old monk asked the disciples to carve the Heart Sutra so that they could calm their minds.

Eventually, the police found the temple, arrested the prime-aged monk, and passed the law to discipline him.

The door of the temple was opened for the fourth time, and in the ice and snow, the monk returned from the world again, and he had entered middle age from his prime.

The old monk had died, and the disciple made materials from the place, chiseled out a bottle of Buddha statue with ice cubes, and embedded the master's relics into the Buddha statue seal hall.

He dug a hole in the ice in front of the temple, drew water to wash his face, and then began to practice martial arts and cultivate his mind.

One day, a young woman came and decided to abandon the child at the temple. When she left, she fell into an ice cave and died in it. From the Buddhist theory of causation, the evil cause of a woman abandoning a child bears the evil consequence of her own death. In the middle-aged monk, he believed that the ice cave he had dug had caused the woman's death. He disciplined himself by dragging stone plates, holding Buddha statues in his hands, and climbing thorny mountain paths.

This is actually conveying the idea that if you have no intention of committing it, you also need to repent.

The temple's courtyard door is opened for the fifth time, recreating the beauty of spring flowers.

The abandoned little monk has also grown up, and he is the same as the little monk of that year. He played freely in the landscape and water, playing with small animals, waiting for master's enlightenment.

Heaven and earth are everywhere, the four seasons are endlessly circulating, good and evil in the world, there is a cycle of cause and effect, this is spring, summer, autumn, winter and spring.

One lifetime, one autumn of grass and trees, is a process of continuous cultivation of the mind, so as to eliminate the inherent cruelty and evil of human nature, so that it tends to be true, good, and beautiful.

Life is infinite from generation to generation, and in the cycle of repetition, the next generation is educated with enlightenment and conscience. In the cycle of cause and effect, life goes on and on from generation to generation.
