Recently, the "2021 China Fishery Statistics Yearbook" compiled by the Fishery and Fishery Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the National Aquatic Technology Promotion Station, and the Chinese Fisheries Society was released. Statistics show that the total production and breeding area of Penaeus vannamei in South America in China have further increased. The relevant data is summarized for exchange and reference.

From 2016 to 2020, the national production of White Shrimp in South America showed a slight increase trend year by year. In 2020, the production of marine aquaculture was 1.1977 million tons, an increase of 4.66% year-on-year.

■ Figure 1: Mariculture production of Penaeus vannamei in 2016-2020
The marine aquaculture of Penaeus vannamei in South America is concentrated in coastal areas. In the south of China, Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian are the mainstays. In the northern region, mostly in Shandong. Among them, the output of Guangdong and Guangxi showed an upward trend year by year. The output of Fujian and Shandong declined slightly from 2016 to 2017, and increased year by year from 2017 to 2020.

In 2020, the output of Guangdong Province was 448,500 tons, an increase of 7.43% year-on-year, accounting for 37% of the national total; the output of Guangxi Province was 331,400 tons, an increase of 3.75% year-on-year, accounting for 28% of the national total; the output of Fujian Province was 115,600 tons, an increase of 4.06% year-on-year, accounting for 10% of the national total; the output of Shandong Province was 114,900 tons, an increase of 9.19% year-on-year, accounting for 10% of the national total.

From 2016 to 2020, the seawater area of Penaeus monocytogenes in South America fluctuated slightly, with a slight decline in 2016-2017, an increase year by year in 2017-2020, and the largest growth rate in 2019-2020. In 2020, the marine aquaculture area of Penaeus vannamei in South America was 177,500 hectares, an increase of 5.63% year-on-year.

In the northern region, the marine aquaculture area of Penaeus vannamei is mostly in Shandong and Hebei. In south China, the area of Penaeus vannamei cultured in South America is mostly in Guangdong and Guangxi. Among them, Shandong remained stable in 2016-2019, and the growth rate in 2019-2020 was relatively fast. The remaining provinces with large aquaculture area showed a downward trend in 2016-2017 and increased steadily in 2017-2020.

In 2020, the aquaculture area in Shandong Province was 71,800 hectares, accounting for 40% of the total area; the aquaculture area in Guangdong Province was 42,100 hectares, accounting for 24% of the total area; the aquaculture area in Guangxi Province was 18,400 hectares, accounting for 10% of the area; and the aquaculture area in Hebei Province was 14,200 hectares, accounting for 8% of the total area.

<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="47" >02 Freshwater aquaculture: mostly coastal areas</h1>
From 2016 to 2020, the national production of white shrimp in freshwater aquaculture fluctuated slightly every year, showing a downward trend in 2016-2017, increasing year by year from 2017 to 2019, and declining slightly in 2019-2020. In 2020, the national production of White Shrimp in South America was 665,200 tons, down 0.89% year-on-year.

Although the distribution range of freshwater aquaculture of Penaeus vannamei in The country is widespread, it is mainly in coastal areas. In the south of China, Guangdong and Fujian are the mainstays. In the northern region, it is mainly concentrated in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shandong. From 2016 to 2017, several large production provinces fell into bottlenecks, and production declined to varying degrees, of which Guangdong fell the most. Since then, in addition to a slight decline in Jiangsu's output in 2019, the output of several large production provinces in 2017-2020 has shown a slight upward trend.

In 2020, the output of Guangdong Province was 214,200 tons, down 0.44% year-on-year, accounting for 33% of the national total; the output of Jiangsu Province was 119,200 tons, down 9.33% year-on-year, accounting for 18% of the national total; the output of Fujian Province was 86,600 tons, an increase of 3.1% year-on-year, accounting for 13% of the national total; the output of Zhejiang Province was 71,100 tons, down 6.68% year-on-year, accounting for 11% of the national total; and the output of Shandong Province was 57,700 tons, an increase of 12.78% year-on-year, accounting for 9% of the national total.
Figure 9.Proportion of freshwater aquaculture production of Penaeus vannamei in 2020
As one of the three major shrimp species with the highest aquaculture production in the world today, Penaeus vannamei is an extremely important part of China's aquaculture industry. In the culture of Penaeus vannamei in South America, the yield of marine aquaculture is higher than that of freshwater aquaculture. In the past five years, the production of Penaeus vannamei and the area of marine aquaculture in China have shown an overall upward trend, and the momentum is good. In the future, China will improve its production technology and effectively improve the production and quality of Penaeus vannamei.
