Penaeus tabula, once again on the "altar", especially in this tropical region of Hainan, is gradually becoming a shrimp sought after by farmers.
First, abandoning Penaeus vannamei and switching to Penaeus monodon has almost become a trend.
A farmer in Nanchangjiang, Hainan, told the author the reason why he switched from Penaeus vannamei to penaeus monodon: I am a native of Zhejiang, and I have been raising shrimp on this side of the Nanchang River for seven or eight years, which can also be regarded as witnessing the prosperity of the shrimp farming industry on the western line of Hainan (Changjiang belongs to the western line). However, in recent years, with the pressure of environmental protection and changes in the farming environment, many farmers have withdrawn from the aquaculture industry, insisting on either "no way to go" or those who maintain confidence in aquaculture.
In fact, at the beginning we were all breeding South American white shrimp, just began to be on our side, mu yield of 10,000 catties, is not a new thing, but then raised, found that this shrimp disease more, more medication, the number of seedlings per mu also decreased, so, resulting in later our yield is also constantly decreasing, which causes low efficiency, sometimes even losses, so the urgent need for transformation.
Therefore, people around me began to cultivate penaeus tabula, and I also followed the trend. The results are indeed very good, according to my understanding, my friends who cultivate penaeus prawns around me can basically raise a pond, earn a pond, and there is a pond mouth to protect the capital, but there is almost no pond mouth that loses money.

An industry insider engaged in shrimp hatching also said: In the past two years, many fry farms in Hainan have begun to make shrimp seedlings. Because we have found that the sales price of shrimp fry is high (the price of 5 fork shrimp fry is basically about 500 yuan / 10,000 tails), which is about twice that of Penaeus monodon in South America. Moreover, in this way, shrimp fry are not easy to appear "blocked seedlings", basically as long as they hatch, they can be sold, and they do not have to worry about the funds invested and cannot be recovered. Therefore, everyone has to do shrimp fry, but some have different emphases.
However, the homogenization of penaeus monodon in the seedlings is more serious, and there are two or three kinds of broodstock on the market for us to choose, so the quality of shrimp fry largely needs to be controlled by the nursery.
Second, why can the shrimp be quickly caught fire?
An analyst pointed out that the popularity of Hainan shrimp in the past two years has a great relationship with the breeding environment and its own characteristics:
1. Large profit margin and low risk factor. Due to its large size, the sales price of Penaeus monodon is generally higher than that of Penaeus monodon. Take the recent quotation as an example: 25 tails / kg of penaeus monodon, the purchase price of Tangkou can reach (25-28 yuan / kg), and the same specifications of South American white shrimp, Tangkou purchase price (18-21 yuan / kg), do not look at each kg of difference on a few dollars, but the number goes up, the overall sales price will vary greatly, to a large extent, it will affect the profits of farmers.
2. Restrictions on breeding patterns. With the increase in diseases of Penaeus vannamei in recent years, coupled with the restrictions of Hainan's aquaculture model (Hainan is basically a membrane pond or cement pond), it is impossible to achieve high-density factory culture like in some northern regions. In this way, the density of everyone's breeding is not high, and the yield will naturally not be very high!
At the same time, this is naturally no advantage compared with penaeus prawns. In a pond, Penaeus vannamei can produce 4-5 kilotons, and P. vanilla can also be produced, but the profits of the two are very different, so many farmers know how to choose.
3. The disease is relatively reduced. After the response of many farmers, no large-scale spread of diseases has been found in Penaeus monodon. Unlike Penaeus vannamei, leukoplakia, erythrosis, hepatospanic necrosis... A large number of diseases have made farmers tremble with fear.
In fact, shrimp farming is mainly water, so the difficulty of farming Penaeus vannamei and penaeus monodon is actually not very great. Basically experienced farmers can easily cope, plus shrimp fry basically did not find pathogens on the shrimp fry, the breeding process is still relatively comfortable compared to South American white shrimp.
4, a lot of follow-the-trend behavior. Although, Penaeus monodon has an advantage, but it is not enough for so many people to raise it. Part of the reason is that farmers choose to follow the trend of farming, seeing that many people have made money farming Penaeus monodon, and everyone has begun to raise this shrimp.
In fact, it is not appropriate to use the word "follow the trend". When you see that other people's farming makes money, but it is difficult for you to make a profit, how to choose, that is also a kind of human common feeling.
The price of imported shrimp has risen, and consumer demand has declined, so the excess consumer demand will inevitably turn to domestic shrimp, which has laid the foundation for the "rise" of domestic shrimp.
Therefore, I think that from the perspective of the market, the market demand for Penaeus monodon in the future is relatively large. As long as no major structural changes occur, farming Penaeus monodon will remain a lucrative thing in the coming years.
