In the early days of New China, in order to show the achievements of the construction of the tenth anniversary of the founding of New China, the Party Central Committee decided to build ten major buildings in the capital, and the Great Hall of the People was one of them.
Construction of the Great Hall of the People began in October 1958, took only 10 months, and was completed in September 1959. Once built, a batch of artwork was needed to decorate the interior. It was in this context that Fu Baoshi and Mr. Guan Shanyue were invited to cooperate, using Mao Zedong's words "Qinyuan Spring and Snow" as the content, and cooperating in a large painting, entitled "So Many Delicacies in Jiangshan".
The Great Hall of the People is a place for state leaders to receive foreign guests and hold state events, and has high requirements for paintings, so the two painters feel pressure while accepting the task.
The propositional painting of "So Many Petite Rivers and Mountains" first requires that it reflect the poetry of "so many delicate rivers and mountains" in Chairman Mao's "Qinyuan Spring and Snow". After careful study by Guan Shanyue and Fu Baoshi, according to Premier Zhou Enlai's opinion, "The whole picture should show the style of our great motherland: the close-up view is the green mountains and rivers in the south of the jiangnan, and the green pines and green stones; the distant view is the snow-capped scenery of the northern country..."
Fu Baoshi successively drew several small drafts and presented them to Premier Zhou for viewing. After reading the painting, Premier Zhou suggested that the picture should also be painted with a red sun, which not only embodies the meaning of "the east is red, the sun rises", but also "symbolizes the leadership of Chairman Mao and the Communist Party."

Fu Baoshi later recounted in his article "Beijing Painting Record": "We strive to integrate Guan Shanyue's meticulous and soft Lingnan style with my unrestrained and profound style on the picture, and each has its own characteristics, and it must be painted with brush and ink, magnificent, and must not have a little weak and powerless performance." ”
Fu Baoshi and Guan Shanyue co-created the scene
After several months of meticulous creation, the painting was finally completed. Against the background of a round of red sun, the close-up green mountains and green waters represent the south of the motherland, the distant scenery represents the north of the motherland, and the middle scene runs through the two major arteries of the motherland, the Yangtze River and the Yellow River, thus making the whole picture coherent into a whole, symbolizing the unity and prosperity of the motherland.

Fu Baoshi and Guan Shanyue respectively integrated their own artistic techniques into their creations, encompassing the great rivers and mountains of the motherland in one work, so that the images of different time and space overlapped in one picture at the same time. Through this overlap of spaces, the two artists have romantically visualized chairman Mao's words, and at the same time, completed the synaesthesia transformation of literary poetry to Danqing's pen and ink, and behind this process is a deeper historical situation.
After the painting was completed, the most important one was to ask Chairman Mao to pay for the painting, when Chairman Mao was on a field expedition, he inscribed four copies of "So Many Delicacies in the Mountains and Mountains" in his busy schedule, and wrote "For Choice" in the reply letter.
Then Professor Zhang Zhengyu of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts enlarged and copied the six words of "so many delicacies in Jiangshan" on the screen. Finally, three of Chairman Mao's four calligraphies were given to Guan Shanyue, Fu Baoshi, and Zhang Zhengyu for personal collection. The other is stored in the collection of archival materials by the China Artists Association, and the enlarged seal "Jiangshan So Many Jiao" on the painting was engraved by Qi Yanming.
On the evening of September 29, 1959, the large painting "So Many Delicacies in the Rivers and Mountains" was framed and hung in the north hall of the newly completed Great Hall of the People in Beijing before the 10th anniversary of the National Day. This is the place where Chairman Mao and other state leaders often receive foreign guests for group photos in the future, and it is also a place where people miss and yearn for.
"So Many Delicate Rivers and Mountains" hanging in the north hall of the Great Hall of the People
The "So Many Delicacies in The Rivers and Mountains" hanging in the Great Hall of the People today is actually not the original work, but was copied by Rong Baozhai technicians.
Back in 1990, "So Many Delicacies in the Mountains" has been hanging in the north hall of the Great Hall of the People for 31 years, and due to the long time, the picture has become yellow and old, and some parts have been damaged by rain leakage. At the same time, due to the problem of temperature and air flow in the lobby, this huge painting collapsed into a crack. In order to avoid greater damage to the painting, the leaders of the Great Hall of the People decided to preserve the original and copy another one for hanging.
Mr. Fu Baoshi died in 1965, Mr. Guan Shanyue was also old, and finally decided that Rong Baozhai sent two experts, Sun Shumei and Mi Jingyang, to complete this task, sun Shumei, who was 62 years old at the time, and Mi Jingyang, who was 54 years old at the time, entered Rong Baozhai when he was young, was a master of sketching and copying, and was guided by Mr. Dong Shouping, and was a veritable "pillar of the platform" of Rong Baozhai.
At the same time, Rong Baozhai specially equipped two young painters as assistants. The four people were ordered to copy for a month and finally completed the copying task, and then asked Song Xuewei, the seal engraver of Rong Baozhai, to imitate the seal and print it, and then "old" the picture was processed, so that the picture was closer to the historical appearance that had been hung for more than 30 years. After the painting was copied and copied, after being approved by the relevant leaders of the central government, it was carefully framed by RongbaoZhai painting experts to replace the original work and continue to welcome guests at home and abroad.
