The Network for Architecture Exchange NAX, launched by the German Federal Institute of Architects (BAK), hosts an online "Sino-German Urban Renewal Lab" project that brings together German architects, Chinese city representatives and industry experts to discuss perspectives and share knowledge on Sustainable Urban Renewal Strategies in China. The project is supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). Q1 How to achieve the organic renewal of the 14th Five-Year Plan?
Li Ran: For the topic of how to realize the organic renewal of the 14th Five-Year Plan, first of all, the Sino-German Eco-City is facing the space and positioning of a new city, facing the new crowd, facing the construction of an organic, ecological and new environment, our understanding is that the organic renewal of the 14th Five-Year Plan is to respect the authenticity of history, but our development also has a sustainability, according to local conditions, and then diversified, just like a state of natural growth, a gradual multi-level diversification to update, To improve, to upgrade.
Q2 How to respond to the challenge of Industry Selection in Daegu Sino-German Eco-City?
Li Ran: In the traditional industry, how can we help and promote some new industries, and some new projects have landed in this place. It turned out that we produced traditional, large-scale steel raw materials, so now we can do something new, such as combining some similar prefabricated technologies in Germany. Traditional enterprises, if they can meet its transformation and upgrading, then it can continue to exist here, but its industry may face a new opportunity, after some new enterprises come, will also provide these industries with a wisdom of help, or research and development of help, so that a better industrial ecology has been formed.
Q3 How to respond to the challenges of daegu Sino-German Eco-City on the ecological environment?
Li Ran: In our planning, we fully respect its existing and existing resource endowments, and natural resources are a base for all our design levels, such as the ecological lake of Tuanbo Lake, which is the largest natural ecological lake in Tianjin, and the biological diversity is very rich. In our area, there are river layouts on the periphery and inside, as far as this area is concerned, its groundwater level is relatively high, so it has a natural advantage in creating some ecological wetlands, water landscapes, etc. We have introduced rainwater collection into our ecosystem by building a continuous urban space network. We have widened the 10 billion roads and added two green belts. Green spaces and squares are not only used as carriers for leisure and relaxation, but also as filtered and stored here after we collect rainwater, and use as many natural resources as possible, including groundwater, rainwater, and landscape water, forming a more natural, ecological and shrewd system. From the large urban water body to the micro water body of our community, an overall ecological linkage system has been formed.
Q4 How to inherit and protect the history and culture of Daegu?
Li Ran: How do we create a new urban renewal structure and layout, our historical coordinates are the industrial avenue of ten billion roads, when we walk in such a physical space, we see that there are many large trucks loaded with goods on the ten billion roads, very industrial atmosphere, the factory area has a lot of historical style, representing the old factory buildings of that era, row of large crane beams, row after row of buildings there are skylights, the light and shadow are scattered into the space, which is quite touching. We feel that this is a very representative physical bearing, we will excavate and retain and respect its historical imprint, we will classify and grade, there are some we think the conditions are very good, the style is also very prominent, we will keep it completely, and then replace it with new functions. There are some that we will be able to adapt and upgrade to meet some of the new functions while retaining its roots and genes. Some do not have the value of retention, we will also dismantle according to the needs of space, and then build some new space, give new functions.
On this basis, it is fully integrated with the general trend and demand of organic renewal of our current and future urban development, truly respecting and reflecting history, but with a sustainable continuation. In our design, in fact, we have fully preserved some of our existing resources, including the road of 10 billion roads, such a structure, and we have preserved some factories and structures of historical value in some old factories, such as crane beams and chimneys. We are actually in space, not to divide the state of the ten billion roads as a road, we want to leave it behind, and at the same time connect with our other spaces as a whole. We feel that the most important thing is how to integrate into the new urban system on the basis of the historical imprint, through the new urban system, new groups, new functions and industries, and then to serve such a historical and industrial civilization area as Ten Billion Road to support its changes, transformation and gorgeous upgrades.
Q5 What is the vision for the future of Daegu Sino-German Eco-City?
Li Ran: Looking forward to the Sino-German Eco-City, as planners, we very much hope that the pictures in our minds can be truly presented in real life: including the urban spaces we design and the environments we create. In addition, most importantly, we hope that through this project, we can attract different groups of people and carry a very rich, vital, healthy growth and development of social body, which is one of our visions. Successful design is that the space we create is truly suitable for the needs of the people in this area, can support and attract them, can accompany their life and growth, can present such a city that they have built and constituted.
Urban design of Sino-German Tianjin Daeguzhuang Eco-City
Tianjin Jinghai District Daegu Zhuang Town was once famous for rural industrialization, the former "steel town" in the context of ecological civilization set sail again, to promote green development, high-quality development as the main direction of attack, accelerate the adjustment of industrial structure, explore breakthroughs in the "steel siege", accelerate the cultivation of "hematopoietic" function. The Sino-German Tianjin Daegu Eco-City is located at the junction of Tianjin and southern farming, bounded by the Duliu River. Along the river originating in Xiong'an, there are several reservoirs adjacent to each other, adjacent to the Tuanbo Lake Wetland Reserve, which has a very good ecological environment.

Combined with the industrial status quo and ecological base of DaeguZhuang, relying on the "Sino-German Ecological Demonstration City" cooperation project, seizing the opportunity of German Industry 4.0, based on geographical advantages, drawing on the planning concept of Xiong'an New Area, adhering to international standards, combining Tianjin characteristics and superior planning, we hope to build the Sino-German Tianjin Daegu Eco-city into an ecological city, smart city, modern city and livable city.

We strengthen the base aggregation effect, and at the same time plan a continuous ecological open space to form a composite space from culture to ecology, from the city to nature. The plan adopts the spatial structure of "one axis, one center, two corridors and three parks", "one axis" is the central urban development axis, running through the entire Sino-German Eco-City in an east-west direction, connecting the urban administrative center in the east and the natural ecological landscape area in the west; "one heart" combines the central water system to create the urban living room as the urban public center; the "two corridors" are the industrial revitalization corridors built on 10 billion roads and the ecological expansion corridor based on the new water system; the "four districts" are the enterprise headquarters park, the Sino-German Cultural Park, the 10 billion road enterprise incubation park, Four livable communities.
