Sao Paulo, 26 Oct (Xinhua) -- The "Fifth BRICS Series of Seminars" held by the BRICS Research Center of the University of São Paulo, Brazil, opened on October 26, and this seminar was held online with the theme of "Cooperation and Consensus in the Restructuring of International Relations.".

Participants argued that the world needs a new framework of international organizations and international relations to promote sustainable development, and that the spillover effects of close cooperation among BRICS countries can benefit the whole world. Member states should work together to overcome difficulties, further promote post-pandemic economic recovery, combat extreme poverty, and implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Jin Hongjun, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Brazil, said in a speech that as the largest developing country, China has always been a supporter, participant and contributor to South-South cooperation. Next year, China will take over the presidency of the BRICS, and China is willing to continue to work with the BRICS partners to strengthen vaccine cooperation, deepen economic cooperation, strengthen people-to-people exchanges, jointly defend true multilateralism, promote the development of the international order in a more just and reasonable direction, and promote South-South cooperation in a wider range and wider fields to benefit the brics countries and the people of the world.

Evandelo Carvalho, Director of the Research Center for Pakistan-China Relations at the Seto del Vargas Foundation in Brazil, reviewed the development of the BRICS cooperation mechanism and the New Development Bank. He said that the main objective of the BRICS mechanism should focus on promoting multilateralism and democracy in the international system, which is also the basis for the development of South-South cooperation.

In addition, Mauricio Eleño, an official of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, van der Meyvey, a representative of the Brics Youth Association of South Africa, spoke as guests, and José Ricardo Luce Jr., CEO of the Brazilian Business Leaders Organization in China, presided over the meeting on the same day.
