"Serving as the Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China for Only One Day - Zhang Qiuren"

Zhang Qiuren (1898-1928), a native of Zhuji, Zhejiang. He joined the Chinese Socialist Youth League in Shanghai in 1921 and the Communist Party of China in early 1922. He has successively served as an alternate member of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, an alternate member of the Shanghai Local Executive Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Executive Committee of Jiangsu and Zhejiang Districts, the secretary of the Local Executive Committee of the Jiangsu- Zhejiang-Anhui District of the Communist Youth League and the Shanghai Local Executive Committee, and a member of the Central Committee of the Youth League, and has directly participated in the establishment of party and group organizations in Ningbo, Wuhu and other places. In 1926, he served as a teacher at the Sixth Guangzhou Peasant Movement Training Institute and as a political instructor at the Whampoa Military Academy in Guangzhou.

On the eve of the "April 15" counter-revolutionary coup in Guangzhou in 1927, Zhang Qiuren left Guangzhou for a new job assignment by the Central Committee because he was wanted by the Kuomintang reactionaries. Soon, Wuhan Wang Jingwei also implemented an anti-communist "cleansing party", and Zhang Qiuren returned to Shanghai. At this time, the organization department of the newly established Zhejiang Provincial CPC Committee was destroyed, zhuang Wengong, secretary of the provincial party committee, resigned, and it was urgent to strengthen the leadership of the provincial party committee, and the party Central Committee decided to send Zhang Qiuren back to Zhejiang as secretary of the provincial party committee. Zhang Qiuren knew that his identity had long been made public, and there were too many acquaintances in Zhejiang, and there was a danger of arrest at any time, but he put his personal life and death at risk and resolutely accepted the order. Before leaving, he once said to a friend who was very familiar: "It seems that my head is going to be cut off in Hangzhou."

In late September, Mr. and Mrs. Zhang Qiuren came to Hangzhou from Shanghai. On the evening of the 26th, he attended the meeting of activists (enlarged by the provincial party committee) held by the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, at which Wang Ruofei, commissioner of the Party Central Committee, conveyed the spirit of the Eighty-Seventh Conference. On the 27th, he continued to participate in the provincial party committee meeting presided over by Wang Ruofei, at which new members of the provincial party committee were elected. On the 28th, the new provincial party committee held a plenary meeting, elected the standing committee and divided the work, and Zhang Qiuren served as the secretary of the provincial party committee and the director of the propaganda department.

On the morning of the 29th, when Zhang Qiuhe and his wife were passing by The Lake, they encountered two reactionary students who used to be at the Whampoa Military Academy, and immediately pretended to be playing and boarded a large boat to swim in the West Lake. After boarding the boat, the two students still entangled all the way. Zhang Qiuren knew that it was difficult to get out, and while whispering to his wife in English: "I am in danger, but don't panic." Try to burn the documents hidden in the hotel. While wittily jumping into the lake after the boat docked, stepping into the mud with a list of party members in his pants pocket and protecting the party's secrets and the safety of his comrades, he was unfortunately arrested. At the same time, the wife took advantage of the chaos and immediately returned to the hotel to transfer the documents safely in a timely manner.

Because of the joint accusations of several reactionary students at the Whampoa Military Academy in Hangzhou, Zhang Qiuren was taken to prison as a "major criminal" with shackles. Party organizations and relatives and friends tried in many ways to rescue them, but they were unsuccessful. On February 8, 1928, Zhang Qiu died heroically in the Zhejiang Army Prison of the Kuomintang in Hangzhou.

In November 1931, in a conversation with his brother Mao Zemin and Qian Xijun (Zhujiren) and others, Mao Zedong fondly remembered: "Comrade Zhang Qiuren was a good comrade, a good party member, very capable, very good at propaganda, and very popular, but unfortunately he sacrificed too early. ”
