The film "Seongnam Old Things" is based on Lin Haiyin's novella of the same name published in 1960. The original novel was written in five paragraphs with five people, and when it was adapted, all of the "aunts" and the second half of "Donkey Rolling" were deleted.
After the script was completed, the Beijing Film Studio, which had planned to shoot the film, cancelled the filming for unknown reasons, missing the classic. Chen Huangmei, then vice minister of culture, recommended the script of "Old Things in Seongnam" to the Shanghai Film Studio. After watching it, the Shanghai Film Studio immediately made a decision to invest in the filming of "Old Things in seongnam".
In the 1980s, the average investment in a film by the Shanghai Film Studio was 290,000 yuan, while the Shanghai Film Studio invested 570,000 yuan for "Seongnam Old Things", more than twice as much. If Beiying knew that Shangying valued this film so much, he didn't know how to feel.
Many people don't know that this Beijing-flavored movie was shot in Shanghai. In 1982, the Shanghai Film Studio went to Beijing to select scenes. At that time, Beijing could no longer find the original streets and hutongs of old Beijing in the novel. The hutongs in the film, the streets including the grass where the children in the film are hiding, are all built by the artists of the Shanghai Film Studio in the abandoned Shanghai Jiangwan Airport. In the film, except for the red leaves of the West Mountain and the small courtyard of the "Crazy Woman" family, which are real, the other scenes are built by the crew. I have to admire the skill of the artists.

In order to conform to the image of the characters in the film, the makeup artist first shaved off Zheng Zhenyao's sideburns and some hair on her forehead, changed Zheng Zhenyao's originally delicate face into the square face of a northern rural woman, and then drew thick eyebrows and tied her hair into a bun like that was plucked up. After putting on makeup, Zheng Zhenyao covered her face as soon as she looked in the mirror.
In 1983, for playing Mama Song, Zheng Zhenyao won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the Third Golden Rooster Awards. "Seongnam Old Story" also won many awards such as best director and best music.
