Wang Yue (177-217), also spelled Zhongxuan, was a native of Gaoping, Shanyang (present-day Zoucheng, Shandong), a famous literary figure at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the head of the "Seven Sons of Jian'an", and known as "King Cao" along with Cao Zhi.
In the first year of the Han Xian Emperor's first year (190), Dong Zhuo kidnapped the Han Xian Emperor and moved to Chang'an, and his father was then the general He Jinchangshi, and Wang Yue moved west with his father, and met the famous scholar Cai Yong at that time in Chang'an, which was deeply appreciated by Cai Yong.
In the second year of Chuping (192), due to the disturbances in Guanzhong, Wang Yue went to Jingzhou to follow Liu Biao, and lived in Jingzhou for more than ten years. In jian'an thirteenth (208), Cao Cao's army marched south, Liu Biao fell ill, his son Liu Chun surrendered, and Wang Yue returned to Cao Cao, who won the trust of Cao's father and son and gave him the title of Marquis of Guannei.
In the eighteenth year of Jian'an (213), Cao Cao was promoted to Duke Wei of Jin, Duke of Wei, Duke of Wei, and Wang Yue (王粲官) served as a servant. In the twenty-second year (217), he marched from Cao Cao to the south to conquer Sun Quan, and died of illness on the way to the north, at the age of forty-one.
Wang Yueshan belongs to the text, and his poems are given the crown of the seven sons of Jian'an. In literature, Wang Yue, together with Kong Rong, Xu Gan, Chen Lin, Ruan Yu, Ying Yue, and Liu Zhen, was called the "Seven Sons of Jian'an". Wang Yue was not only ranked as the seventh son, but also one of the more accomplished, and was called "Cao Wang" along with Cao Zhi.
Anecdotal allusions
First, never forget
Wang's allusions were talented when he was young, knowledgeable and strong, and had a talent that he never forgot. The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Wei Shu, and The Biography of Wang Yue says that he was naturally adept at calculation. Doing arithmetic can come up with the correct answer very concisely. And good at writing articles, always a wave, never need to modify, people often think that he wrote in advance, but although they repeatedly and carefully conceived, the articles they wrote could not surpass Wang Yue.
The two small incidents recorded in the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Wei Shu, and The Biography of Wang Yue" prove that Wang Yue is indeed a person with a super memory.
One day, Wang Cang was walking with a friend and saw an ancient monument on the side of the road, so he stood there and read it aloud. A friend asked him, "Can you recite it?" Wang Yue replied, "Yes." The friend immediately told him to turn around and recite the inscription, and the result was verbatim.
Once, Wang Yue watched others play Go, and someone accidentally messed up the chess pieces, and he said that he could help people put the pieces back in place according to the original situation. The chess player did not believe it, took out a handkerchief and covered it on the chessboard, asking him to change the chessboard and re-swing it, and as a result, there was not even a single error. Wang Yue is so knowledgeable and memorable.
Second, the donkey mourns death
On the 24th day of the first lunar month (17 February) in 217 (the 22nd year of Jian'an), Wang Yue died of illness on his way back to Yecheng at the age of 41. At that time, Cao Pi was still a son of the world, and personally led the scribes to send him a funeral. In order to express his affection for Wang Cang, Cao Pi said to Wang Cang's former friends: "Zhongxuan loves to listen to donkeys on weekdays, let's learn donkey calls once and send him off!" So, there was a donkey cry. This is the famous donkey cry funeral. After the funeral, Cao Zhi also composed "Wang Zhongxuan", which shows that the friendship between the two is indeed extraordinary.
