When I came to Tanhua Temple, the quaint courtyard and the long corridor with its twists and turns made me intoxicated and did not know the way back. I was wandering when suddenly two begonia trees caught my attention.

Obviously, it was two begonia trees, but they were full of fist-sized fruits.
It's really strange, where does begonia have such a big fruit?
I leaned over to look closely, and the tree had problems, and it felt a little different from the begonia, the branches were slightly vine-like, and the trunk was covered with nodular thorns.
Most of the trees in Tanhua Temple have signs, and instructions should be found. All the way inside, there is a large orchard under the Ruiying Pagoda, which has the reputation of "the first tower in Yunnan", which is this "begonia" tree, which is full of fruit.
It turns out that this is the famous sour papaya.
Sour papaya is not a papaya, not even a melon, is a fruit, belongs to the rosaceae family, common papaya begonias, sticker begonias.
It's really about begonias.
The sour papaya flowers are beautiful in color, and the fruit can be used in both vegetables and medicines. It is worth mentioning that they are the papaya mentioned in traditional culture and poetry, such as the famous sentence in the "Book of Poetry" "Vote for me with papaya, and repay it with Qiongju", which refers to this sour papaya.
Sour papayas are generally cyan, but will turn yellow after a long time. Yunnan specialties papaya chicken, papaya fish, papaya stew pig's trotters are used sour papaya.
There are many ways to eat sour papaya, and you can make appetizing acid papaya. Pick those that are not very cooked and are crunchier to eat. After removing the skin, cut it in half, dig out the core, cut it into slices and salt for about five hours, then wash it clean, squeeze dry water, pour in the right amount of white vinegar, need to be over acid papaya, you can also add the right amount of green and red peppers, sugar, cover the lid for about a day or so to eat.
Stew the chicken with sour papaya and prepare the fresh sour papaya. Wash the chicken, wash the sour papaya and slice it, and remove the seeds. Add the right amount of oil to the pot, first put the herbs, star anise, dried peppers and peppercorns and other spices into the frying, then add the right amount of millet spicy, garlic, ginger stir-frying pot, add chicken nuggets, fry until six ripe, and then pour into the stew pot, add the right amount of soup, salt, simmer for about ten minutes to add sour papaya to stew.
Sour papaya stewed fish, remove the seeds of the sour papaya into strips, marinate the whole fish with cooking wine salt for ten minutes, put it in the oil pot and fry until both sides are slightly yellow, take out the fish, put the oil in the pot and heat it, stir-fry the dried peppers, ginger, garlic, and then add the appropriate amount of sour papaya shreds and stir-fry, add some tomatoes to continue stir-frying evenly, then add the appropriate amount of soy sauce, cooking wine, salt, and then add the appropriate amount of water to boil, after the water is boiled, put the fish down and simmer over medium-low heat, then put some sugar to freshen, simmer for about twenty minutes, add some pepper before coming out of the pot to taste, Sprinkle some chopped coriander with green onions after cooking.

Although the sour papaya is beautiful, please obtain it legally. There is a large papaya garden under the Ruiying Pagoda of Tanhua Temple, which is fruitful and frustrating. There is a sour papaya sales office next to it, which is about 20 yuan per kilogram (Kunming local pound refers to the kilogram).
If you like the sour papaya on the tree, you can also tell the manager that there will be a security guard to take you to pick it yourself. Picking without authorization, taking without telling, is stealing, there will be a high fine.
