On the morning of August 6, 1965, in the official residence of the so-called "Presidential Palace" in Yangmingshan, Taipei, a secret military conference attended by senior generals of the three services personally convened by the so-called "President" Chiang Kai-shek was being held. Fifteen years after being driven to the island of Taiwan by the People's Liberation Army, Chiang Kai-shek and some of his senior generals thought they were full of wings and could strike a fatal blow across the strait to realize their so-called dream of "restoring the mainland."

Scene of the 1964 explosion of The Chinese atomic bomb in Lop Nur
Since the mainland successfully exploded its first atomic bomb on October 16, 1964, and the PLA will bring the atomic bomb into actual combat in just 1-2 years at the latest, this counter-offensive window is rapidly disappearing. Therefore, the old man's desire to launch a "counter-offensive" operation as soon as possible is extremely urgent. However, at this meeting, the so-called "commander-in-chief of the Navy, Liu Guangkai," reported to him in a vague manner that the two warships sent by the Navy to the coast of the mainland last night to carry out missions encountered and waged a fierce battle with the "communist" navy.
Liu Guangkai
Li Yuxi
The so-called "chief of staff" Li Yuxi reported that the Air Force has sent F-100 fighter jets to the coast of the mainland, and no 2 warships have been found for the time being. Chiang Kai-shek couldn't help but "giggle" in his heart, for so many years he knew these subordinates too well, they were all long eagle-billed duck paws -- they could eat and blow but could not fight, and it was the norm for these guys to report good news and not to report worries, and this "unknown" mostly meant that "the situation was not good."
Although Liu Guangkai flew directly from Taipei to the Zuoying Military Port in Kaohsiung, Tainan, in the afternoon after the meeting to investigate the situation, it was not until about 18:00 p.m., by listening to the news program of the Central People's Radio, that the Taiwan side finally learned that the PLA naval unit stationed in Shantou had sunk two "enemy ships" in the sea near Dongshan Island in Fujian Province at dawn that day and captured dozens of officers and men of the Taiwan Navy, including one captain. Only then did the Taiwan side realize that the worst had happened.
At the press conference, several fish who escaped by chance described the experience of "attacking the communist army" at that time according to the content prepared by their superiors, but their faces were clearly written with panic
After the fiasco in the naval battle, Taiwan's "JoongAng Ribao" published an article on "Happy Funerals" in accordance with the usual practice
Time back to a day ago, on August 5, 1965, in the Zuoying Military Harbor in Kaohsiung, Tainan, two warships began to prepare for the sea at about 6 a.m. that day. This was a highly classified mission, and even Hu Jiaheng, commander of the 2nd Patrol Fleet of the Taiwan Navy, who was in charge of the mission, did not know much about the specifics of the mission, code-named "Tsunami No. 1.", he only knew that it was a time to transport armed agents from the so-called "Intelligence Bureau of National Defense" to Dongshan Island off the coast of the mainland to harass the intended target. Shangfeng, more precisely, chiang kai-shek and Chiang Ching-kuo's father and son attached unusual importance to this mission, because this was not a simple task of "infiltration behind enemy lines," but an outpost in which Taiwan launched the so-called "National Light Operation to Restore the Mainland." It can only succeed, not fail!
This time, assigned by the so-called "Ministry of National Defense," the Taiwan Navy decided to form a so-called "task force" with 2 warships to transport a group of agents disguised as the People's Liberation Army to launch a surprise attack on Dongshan Island at the junction of Fujian and Guangdong provinces. This is known as Operation Tsunami One.
This time, the Taiwan Navy has set up a 10-member supervision group headed by Vice Admiral Feng Qicong, "deputy commander-in-chief of the Navy," to coordinate the entire operation. On July 30, the Steering Group decided to send the escort destroyers Taikang (formerly the Evarts-class escort destroyers) and the Dongjiang patrol ships (formerly PC461-class patrol ships) to carry out the mission under the command of Major General Hu Jiaheng, commander of the 2nd Patrol Fleet.

It should be said that this collocation is still painstaking and reasonable. The "Taikang" escort destroyer has a large tonnage, fast speed, strong firepower, and high quality of officers and men, and it serves as the fire core and flagship of the "task force"; while the "Dongjiang" patrol ship has a small tonnage, shallow draft, and flexible mobility, which is convenient for approaching the coast of the mainland, and then releases M2 motorized rubber boats with 6 armed agents to raid Dongshan Island and recover personnel and rubber boats when the commando retreats.
M2 rubber boats, which can hang up at the stern, approach the coastline at a speed of 7 knots, and then paddle ashore by hand to reduce noise and avoid being spotted by the defenders
In addition, Rear Admiral Hu Jiaheng can also be called a member of the Navy, "Su General"; the general of the third phase of the "Lightning Mine Department" is from the concubine lineage, who is deeply trusted in Shangfeng, who has carried out "major" tasks on many occasions and who has made great achievements in "battle"; although the Kuomintang army has lost all the way to the land, his official position has risen all the way, from the captain of the torpedo boat to the commander of the rear admiral's fleet; moreover, before this mission, he has been designated as the lieutenant general director of the so-called "General Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense" within the "above", and even the order for the transfer of personnel has been prepared. That is to say, in this operation, Hu Jiaheng actually commanded a routine raid with the honor of "lieutenant general", which seemed to be a bit "overkill". This was mainly due to the fact that Hu Jiaheng's military cadet, the assistant chief of staff in charge of operations at the Taiwan Naval Headquarters at the time, suggested that before he was promoted, he should make a "personal conscription," wait for him to return from victory and receive meritorious service awards, add another "battle merit" to his resume of "flowers and flowers," and then take up his post in a beautiful manner.
Hu Jiaheng
When Taiwan celebrated the "Double Tenth Festival", Hu Jiaheng, who was still a colonel at the time, served as the commander of the naval team, and this task of having both face and money and not having to fight for his life could be turned on his head, which showed the favor of his superiors, and he was promoted from colonel to major general after this military parade.
But this "flawless" plan has just come out, and the accident happened! The bottom of the escort destroyer Taikang, which was on normal patrol duties off the coast of Matsu, rubbed the bottom of the sand embankment on the seabed, causing damage to the sonar drum shield. The U.S. military advisory team believed that the "Taikang" needed to be repaired to go to sea, but the "Tsunami I" was already on the string, and finally Feng Qicong had to temporarily replace the "Jianmen" patrol ship (formerly a US "Toucan" class minesweeper) instead of the "Taikang". However, the "Jianmen" was a "new ship" that the Taiwan Navy had just received from the United States, and had only joined the Taiwan Navy in April 1965, and the quality of the crew and the familiarity of the crew with the battleships were very problematic.

If it is still a last resort to change the capital ships, then other aspects of the preparation work are even more off-chain. Because Liu Guangkai, who was then the "commander-in-chief" of the Taiwan Navy, had just taken office for more than 5 months, because he was from the Northeast Department, he was secretly ostracized by the Central Department at that time, and the most powerful of these was Li Yuxi, the former "commander-in-chief" of the Navy and the current "deputy chief of staff." Li Yuxi, taking advantage of the fact that Liu Guangkai was still presiding over a wargame exercise in which cadres of Taiwan's army, navy, and air force participated in at the Zuoying Naval Staff University in Kaohsiung, Tainan, bypassed Liu Guangkai and directly put "deputy commander-in-chief" Feng Qicong responsible for formulating a plan of action, which was reported to Chiang Ching-kuo, the so-called "minister of national defense," and Chiang Kai-shek, the so-called "president,". Of course, there is no impermeable wall in the world, Liu Guangkai still heard the wind, he felt that the situation was not as simple as imagined, so he wanted to temporarily abandon the wargame deduction to ask about this matter first, but Li Yuxi used the reason that "wargame deduction is related to the great cause of counter-offensive, and must not be temporarily interrupted" to obstruct Liu Guangkai's intervention.
Li Yuxi did this mainly because of factional strife, he was from the Central Navy (graduated from the first phase of the Electric Thunder School). In his opinion, this battle was a good time to kick out Liu Guangkai and cultivate his own forces. If the operation is successful, then the credit is naturally Feng Qicong, who belongs to the central navy, and has no half-cent relationship with Liu Guangkai; even if the plan fails, then the biggest "black cauldron" is naturally and "naturally" carried by Liu Guangkai, the "unjust boss".
It was not until noon on August 4, after the wargame exercise, that Liu Guangkai immediately flew to Taipei and rushed to the "Naval General Headquarters" without stopping, where he came to the "Supervision Group" and planned to personally interview Feng Qicong, who was in charge. But Feng Qicong, under the hint of Li Yuxi, has already taken a step ahead. Before Liu Guangkai arrived in Taipei, Feng Qicong had already taken a train from Taipei to Kaohsiung by train from Taipei to Zuoying, thus avoiding meeting Liu Guangkai.
Liu Guangkai, who was empty, had no choice but to review the copy of the "Tsunami No. 1 Plan" left by the supervision group, and he found that there were many problems in it and thought that the plan should be reformulated. However, the people below told him that the "task force" had departed from the left camp at 6 a.m. on August 5, and Liu Guangkai immediately ordered the operational assistant chief of staff, Major General Xu Chenggong, to demand that the "special detachment" immediately return to the left camp and wait for the order. Xu Chenggong informed Liu Guangkai that it was too late to recall the fleet, because yesterday he received a call from Lieutenant General Zhu Yuanchun, the so-called deputy chief of the operations staff of the "Ministry of National Defense," and that the "task force" must arrive at the target area in the early morning of August 6 in accordance with Shangfeng's instructions, so it cannot return now. Liu Guangkai had to admit his fate, and then weakly wrote a "reading" word on the copy.
As the saying goes, "the upper beam is not right and the lower beam is crooked", and with this kind of superior who plays "the major affairs of the military and the state", the subordinates will naturally learn from it. Major General Hu Jiaheng, who is the commander of the "special detachment," although his future is promising and he is about to enter the "high level," he also has his own small calculations. Hu Jiaheng had a brother-in-law, Li Zhun, who was only a lieutenant colonel at the time and was the captain of the patrol ship "Zhangjiang". On the one hand, Li Zhun's ability is indeed limited, on the other hand, it is because of factional disputes, Li Zhun's father, That is, Li Xinhou, the elder brother-in-law of Hu Jiaheng, is from the Northeast Navy and once served as the captain of the sailors of the cruiser "Haixi", and Li Zhun is naturally also branded by the Northeast Department. In 1947, Hu Jiaheng, who was still called "Hu Dehua" at the time, married Li Huajiu, the eldest daughter of Li Xinhou, and Li Zhun, as the younger son of Li Xinhou, naturally became Hu Jiaheng's brother-in-law.
Hu Jiaheng (who was still a captain at the time) and Li Huajiu were married
As the People's Liberation Army swept through the entire Chinese mainland like a devastation, in 1949, Hu Jiaheng fled to Taiwan with his wife and children and brother-in-law. The children of the Other Li family, including Hu Jiaheng's father-in-law, Old Taishan Li Xinhou, remained on the mainland and began to separate their flesh and bones.
After arriving in Taiwan, because the "northeast department" was squeezed out by the "central department," even with the care of his brother-in-law, Li Zhun's officials rose very slowly, while Hu Jiaheng rose steadily and step by step. As the gap between the two grew, seeing that Hu Jiaheng was about to be promoted to lieutenant general, and his brother was still a small major, this inevitably caused the dissatisfaction of his wife Li Huajiu, who blew the "pillow wind" on her husband's side and asked for the promotion of her brother-in-law (this behavior is the standard "brother-in-law demon" from today's point of view, but it is taken for granted in the atmosphere of the big family at that time). Hu Jiaheng, who has a deep affection for his husband and wife, then plans to take advantage of this mission to take his brother-in-law out to mix up "battle merits" together, and then come back or be promoted, once he successfully returns, Hu Jiaheng becomes a lieutenant general, and he can help to promote his brother-in-law's rank to lieutenant colonel.
Therefore, Hu Jiaheng "took the order to carry out the order as soon as the power was in his hands" and used his position as the commander of the "special detachment" to replace the patrol ship "Dongjiang" that was originally planned to go out on the mission with the patrol ship "Zhangjiang" (originally a PC461-class patrol ship) commanded by his brother-in-law Li Zhun. His excuse was that the patrol ship "Dongjiang" was beaten by the "Communist Army" frigates in an encounter on May 1 of that year, the hull was seriously damaged, and the casualties were not small, and the remaining officers and men were also demoralized, so Hu Jiaheng reported to his superiors that it was necessary to change to a "Jiangzi-class" warship to carry out the task.
How could Feng Qicong, as the chief person in charge, not be able to see Hu Jiaheng's little ninety-nine, but since everyone was from the "Central Department" and Hu was about to be promoted to the so-called "Ministry of National Defense," Feng Qicong approved Hu Jiaheng's proposal "as good as a stream."
On August 4, Hu Jiaheng magnificently replaced the "Little Brother-in-Law' "Zhangjiang" ship with the "Dongjiang" ship to carry out the mission. To this end, he specially drove home before leaving, and personally told Li Huajiu about this great "good news" (just make a phone call home according to the reason, and you can see how much pressure Hu Jiaheng was under in Li Huajiu before). In this regard, Li Huajiu was naturally overjoyed. However, it will not be long before she will deeply appreciate what is called happiness and sorrow.
Patrol ship "Zhangjiang"

But in fact, the situation of the "Zhangjiang" and the replacement of the "Dongjiang" have just completed the overhaul, and they have not yet completed the test, and the crew has not made up for it, so they were sent to carry out the task by Hu Jiaheng.
At 6:00 a.m. on August 5, the task force composed of the warships "Jianmen" and "Zhangjiang" sailed out of zuoying military port under the command of Hu Jiaheng and began to implement the so-called "Tsunami No. 1 Plan." In order to confuse the PLA's radar in order to achieve the purpose of surprise attack, the Taiwan Navy chose the route of the merchant ships from Kaohsiung Port to Hong Kong. But in fact, after the two enemy ships left the left camp, our army's radar station in Xiamen tracked these two suspicious targets for a long time, and after research and judgment, our radar station used radio at 15:12 on the same day to report to the superiors that "the unknown target was found, which may be a US warship." ”
The radio monitors of the Taiwan military's naval communication center in Zuoying immediately reported to their superiors after monitoring our communications.
The "supervision group" at the Zuoying base judged that although the task force had not yet been confirmed by the "communist army" as a Taiwan warship, its whereabouts had been exposed, and it would inevitably attract the attention of the "communist army" next, so it sent a telegram to Hu Jiaheng to inform him of the situation. However, the treachery of the "supervision group" is that this telegram only informs Hu that the "communist army" may have discovered the movement of the task force, and there are no further orders or instructions, that is, if Hu Jiaheng decides to return to the ship, then the black cauldron that was the failure of the operation that was particularly valued by "Shangfeng" will have to be carried by Hu Jiaheng.
How could Hu Jiaheng, who had a mediocre record but had been in the official arena for many years, not know the catty of this, after weighing the pros and cons, he finally decided to act according to the plan, because according to his experience, the people's navy generally only operated within the 12-nautical-mile territorial waters of the mainland, and as long as he kept the formation outside the territorial sea line, the "communist army" would probably not take action. Therefore, he did not react, but continued to command 2 warships across the middle line of the strait, constantly approaching the mainland coast.
At 17:45 on the evening of August 6, after a long period of monitoring and studying of the enemy's task force detachment, the People's Liberation Army South China Sea Fleet decided to dispatch four Type 62 frigates of the 41st Group of Frigates (that is, the famous "Shanghai" class frigates, the story of the 62nd boats, please see the article "Ala Shanghai" painted by the director of the factory" and the 6 P4-class torpedo boats (Type 123) of the 11th Torpedo Boat Brigade to meet the enemy fleet in the waters of Dongshan Island in Fujian Province. Kong Zhaonian, deputy commander of the Shantou Marine Police District, and Wang Jin, chief of staff, served as commanders of the escort boat group and the torpedo boat group, respectively. At 21:00 in the evening, 10 speedboats set sail and left the port one after another, and then in the dark of the night, they directly hit the standby sea at high speed and met off Nan'ao Island.

At this time, the atmosphere on the 2 enemy ships was tense and strange. At nightfall, the seven agents of the so-called "Intelligence Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense" who accompanied the Jianmen began to change their clothes in their cabins, and they put on the People's Liberation Army's Type 65 uniform. Because of the good work of secrecy precautions in advance, when a group of "People's Liberation Army" came to the deck from the bottom cabin of the "Sword Gate," all the officers and men of the ship were quite surprised, and even a sailor ran to the bridge to report the incident to the captain, Lieutenant Colonel Wang Yunshan.
At about 23:00, the two enemy ships were close to the coastal areas of the mainland, and their course was still southwest. The Jianmen's radar screen showed thousands of fishing boats gathering on the sea from Dongshan Island in Fujian to Nan'ao Island in Shantou, Guangdong Province. In order to prevent being caught off guard by the SPEED BOATs of the People's Liberation Army, Wang Yunshan, the captain of the "Jianmen", ordered the entire ship to enter the first level of combat readiness. At 00:00 on August 6, the two enemy ships turned as planned in the direction of Dongshan Island, which was due north, and then the "Jianmen" ship began to slow down, and the sailors assisted several agents to inflate the American M2 rubber boat and put it into the sea, and then these "agents" boarded the rubber boat and headed towards Dongshan Island. At this time, the Jianmen was about 3.5 nautical miles southeast of Brother Island, followed by the Zhangjiang, maintaining a distance of about half a nautical mile from it.
The director of this article draws an equal-scale side view of the ships involved in this article
However, due to the limited performance of our army's shore radar, it failed to detect in time that the enemy ship formation turned north, so at 0:30 the command post issued the order to receive the enemy, it gave the wrong position and guided 2 brigades to detour to the outer sea to intercept the enemy ship, resulting in the two sides going against the grain, and the distance quickly expanded from 4 nautical miles to 14 nautical miles. But after my radar station finally found the accurate position of the enemy ship, it immediately guided the frigate formation to meet the enemy first. At this time, the "Jianmen" had already sensed that our speedboat formation was rapidly approaching, and was sailing to the outer sea at high speed with the "Zhangjiang" in an attempt to disengage. But my speedboat formation pursued at maximum speed and bit the enemy ship formation at 1:40 a.m.
Since the reader is well aware of the process of the Eighty-Six Naval Battle, it will not be elaborated on here (8.6 Naval Battle Process, please see the article on the People's Navy Warships in the "Eighty-Six Naval Battle"). Our frigate formation first bit the "Zhangjiang" ship behind the palace, and at a distance of 500 meters, it violently strafed its bridge, gun positions and decks with the dense fire of 37 mm and 25 mm machine guns, and the "Zhangjiang" was quickly overwhelmed, and when the knocked-out Li Zhun, who was knocked unconscious, suddenly ordered the warship to be full of rudder on the right and pounced on my formation, because Li Zhun was killed in battle, it can only be inferred that he wanted to make a desperate attempt to hit our army's speedboat (it may also be "Zhangjiang"). At that time, it was completely out of control), but this stupid move was flexibly evaded by our high-speed frigate, and the result was not only unsuccessful, but instead caused the "Zhangjiang" ship to fall into the encirclement of our 4 frigates.
37 mm and 25 mm machine guns on Type 62 frigates
My 4 escort boats clung to the "Zhangjiang" ship, each boat concentrated its firepower, with armor-piercing shells to attack the enemy ship below the waterline, causing a large amount of water into the water, and then my 6 torpedo boats were divided into three attack waves into battle, the "Zhangjiang" was hit by a torpedo at 2:20 a.m. and exploded, and finally sank at 3:30 a.m. about 25 nautical miles southeast of Dongshan Island. None of the entire crew on board, including "Li Xiao's brother-in-law," survived, and this was also a rare unfortunate warship in the history of the Taiwan Navy in which "all the members were killed."
At this time, the "Jianmen" took advantage of our formation to besiege the "Zhangjiang" ship, and took the opportunity to break away from the east and leave the battlefield. However, Hu Jiaheng was anxious on the spot after discovering that Li Zhun's "Zhangjiang" had not followed up, which lost the ship and lost his brother-in-law, whether it was military law or family law, he could not go back to account, and if he rushed back to rescue at this time, it was equivalent to sending him to death. As a result, the "Jianmen" did not dare to turn around and return to reinforce the "Zhangjiang", but did not dare to retreat, so it had to wander in the open sea, hoping for the appearance of a "miracle".
After receiving the news that our formation had sunk the "Zhangjiang," the South China Sea Fleet's shore command post saw that the "Jianmen" was still hovering near our coast, and in order to expand the results of the battle, at 3:35 a.m., five torpedo boats and 1 large patrol ship were dispatched from the Shantou Marine Police District, and our formation set off from Yun'ao. Because it was very early in the summer, in order to bite the enemy ships as soon as possible, our speedboat formation rushed to the battlefield at a maximum speed of 42 knots, and the 4 frigates that had originally besieged the "Zhangjiang" ships, except for the 611 boats (that is, the boat where the battle hero Mai Xiande was located), returned with serious injuries, and the other 3 also received orders to attack the "Jianmen" at 4:10.
611 boats preserved to this day
Our formation still uses frigates to suppress enemy ship fire, and when the enemy ship's fire weakens, the torpedo boats will attack again. 3 frigates began to engage the enemy in the darkest hours of dawn, the panicked enemy ships began to fire indiscriminately with 76 mm main guns at a distance of 11,000 meters, and then when the distance between the two sides was shortened to 7500 meters, the 40 mm and 20 mm machine guns also began to shoot wildly, but in the dark night there was no hit, and my speedboat formation did not fire violently until it rushed to 180 meters away from the "Sword Gate" ship, and in only 4 minutes it completely suppressed almost all the firepower of the enemy ship. The artillery fire of our boat also hit the 20 mm machine shells stacked in front of the steering platform, and Hu Jiaheng and the 11 officers and men on the driving platform were all killed by the detonated ammunition. The captain, Lieutenant Colonel Wang Yunshan, was also injured by the explosion, but fortunately did not hurt the point. At 5:20 a.m., 5 torpedo boats from the direction of Yun'ao arrived at the battlefield and quickly occupied a favorable firing position, my formation fired a total of 10 torpedoes, of which 3 hit, and the "Jianmen" quickly sank after only 2 minutes of struggle.
At this point, the Battle of August 6 ended in a complete victory for our army, and at the small cost of 2 frigates and 2 torpedo boats, 4 casualties, and 28 wounded, our army achieved a major victory in sinking 2 enemy ships, killing more than 170 people under the enemy major general Hu Jiaheng, and capturing 33 people under Lieutenant Colonel Wang Yunshan. Only about 10 people on the 2 enemy ships were rescued by Taiwanese fishing boats, foreign merchant ships, and American warships, and the 7 agents disguised as the People's Liberation Army slipped away quickly after seeing the start of the naval battle and were able to retreat completely.
After the end of the Battle of August 6, the formation of our ships that returned to the Shantou base in victory was handed over to the officers and men of the Taiwan Navy who were captured to the base guard unit
In Taiwan, both taipei's so-called "Naval Headquarters" and Zuoying Military Port spent a sleepless night. At 3 a.m., after the Jianmen reported that it had lost contact with the Zhangjiang, Taiwan never received any more information about the task force. At 6:35 a.m., at the repeated urging of the impatient Navy, the Taiwan Air Force dispatched four F-100 "Super Sabre" supersonic fighters from Pingtung Airport to the naval battle battlefield. But then our formation received a notification from the command that our army had dispatched aviation units to cover the formation. As our aviation arrived at the scene, the 4 planes immediately turned around and evacuated. After salvaging the captives, our fleet returned to the shantou base in victory and arrived at the Shantou base at 10:15 a.m. on August 6, where it was warmly welcomed by the local cadres, masses, and fraternal troops.

Contrary to the atmosphere of celebration on the mainland, in Taiwan it is a gloomy cloud. An enraged Chiang Kai-shek soon removed Liu Guangkai, the commander-in-chief of the navy. At the same time, this fiasco became an opportunity for the Americans to satirize and knock on Taiwan. A month after the Battle of August 6, Chiang Ching-kuo visited the United States as the so-called "defense minister." During talks with then-US Defense Secretary McNamara, when he peddled Chiang Kai-shek's plan to counterattack the five southwestern provinces of the mainland, he was rejected by the US side According to the so-called "US-Taiwan Mutual Defense Treaty", such military operations should be negotiated and agreed upon by the two sides before, and it is obvious that the Taiwan side has violated the regulations. Faced with the humiliation and sneering ridicule of the US side, Chiang Ching-kuo had to laugh everywhere and eventually returned to Taiwan empty-handed.

After the fiasco in the Battle of 1986, Taiwan's so-called "Ministry of National Defense" built a "monument" in Zuoying Triangle Park in 1967.
This also made Chiang Kai-shek have the idea of canceling the "counterattack on the mainland" for the first time.
The same day's deaths of Hu Jiaheng and Li Zhun dealt a devastating blow to Li Huajiu' spirit, and after hearing the bad news that her husband and brother were missing at the same time, she almost fainted on the spot, and the Taiwan Navy officer who came to inform her of the situation was afraid that she would not be able to open her own short-sightedness and took away Hu Jiaheng's pistol. Since then, there have been legends in Taiwan that Hu Jiaheng did not die, but was captured by the People's Liberation Army. Although Li Huajiu said that he did not believe it, he still held a glimmer of hope in his heart.
The eldest daughter of Hu Jiaheng and Li Huajiu later married Joseph Mei Yao, a U.S. State Department official based in Taipei in the early 1980s as a spokesman for the American Institute in Taiwan. Mei Yao was later reassigned to Beijing by the U.S. State Department, and Li Huajiu took the opportunity to return to the mainland with her daughter and son-in-law, where she met her long-lost relatives. At her strong request, Mei Yao, on the orders of her mother-in-law, asked the relevant departments of ours whether his father-in-law, Hu Jiaheng, was still alive, and the relevant departments replied to him after repeated verification that Hu Jiaheng had indeed been killed in the naval battle. After learning the exact news, Li Huajiu also had no intention of continuing to live in Beijing. After Mei Yao's term expired, she returned to the United States with her daughter and son-in-law to settle down.

This little tragedy of the Li family is just one of countless tragedies in China's modern and contemporary history. We believe that the Taiwan issue and human tragedy caused by the weakening of the country will eventually become history along with the strength and reunification of the motherland and the rejuvenation of the nation.
