Two Turkish politicians recently posted on Twitter "commemorating" the 1990 "East Turkistan" riots in Baren Township, Xinjiang, blatantly raising their eyes to terrorists, challenging China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and even making erroneous remarks inciting the splitting of China. The Chinese Embassy in Turkey first stated China's solemn position, but it was interpreted by some netizens with ulterior motives as a "threat" to Turkish politicians. The Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned the Chinese ambassador to Turkey on the 6th. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in response to relevant questions on the 7th that the relevant response of the Chinese Embassy in Turkey is completely legitimate and reasonable, and there is no blame.

According to Deutsche Welle, the whole incident stemmed from the extreme remarks of Akschenen, the leader of Turkey's opposition "Friendship Party", and Yavas, a member of another opposition party, the Republican People's Party and mayor of Ankara, turkey. The two posted on Twitter on the 5th to "commemorate" the 1990 "East Turkistan" riots in Baren Township, Xinjiang.

The Chinese Embassy in Turkey issued a statement on Twitter on the 6th in response, saying that China firmly opposes any force challenging China's sovereignty and territorial integrity in any way, and we strongly condemn this, and China reserves the legitimate right to respond, and marked Akschenen and Yavas. China's perfectly legitimate response was described by some netizens as a "threat to Turkish citizens." Deutsche Welle said the Turkish Foreign Ministry later summoned the Chinese ambassador but did not disclose details to the media.

The Western media are extremely concerned about this incident. Turkey was once a "champion of the Uighur cause," but in recent years, the Turkish government has forged stronger economic ties with China and has spoken out less about Xinjiang, the Associated Press said. On March 25 this year, Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Turkey to hold talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu. Wang Yi said that the essence of Xinjiang-related issues is anti-violence, terrorism and anti-separatism issues, and hopes that the Turkish side will continue to give China understanding and support on issues concerning China's core interests and major concerns. Cavushllu said that the Turkish side abides by the one-China principle, is committed to further enhancing the strategic cooperative relationship between Turkey and China, will not participate in any anti-China actions, and will not allow violent terrorist acts against China in Turkey.

Zhao Lijian said on the 7th that Turkey itself has long suffered from terrorism and separatist forces. We hope that people from all walks of life on the Turkish side will correctly, rationally and objectively view China's firm position on safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity and the counter-terrorism and de-radicalization measures it has taken, and work with China to safeguard the overall situation of China-Turkey strategic cooperative relations with practical actions.
