Matthew McConaughey had refused to star in HBO's "The Last of Us."

HBO once threw an olive branch to Matthew McConaughey to star in the HBO live-action drama "The Last Survivor", but according to foreign media reports, the Hollywood star turned down the role.

HBO has yet to release the full cast list for The Last Of Us, but Ellie and Joel have confirmed Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal (the Mandalorian protagonist). As you may have guessed, players' reactions to these casting announcements have been mixed, after all, this is inevitable. That said, while it's possible that Ramsey was the first choice to play Ellie, at least, Pascal wasn't Joel's original target.

It is worth mentioning that there have been previous reports that Mahershala Ali, a black actor in "Blade Warrior", was considered playing Joel. If this is true, then apparently Pascal is far from being the first choice for HBO when casting Joel.

Does that mean fans should be worried about the episode? Foreign media said that this is not necessarily true, because the replacement of the cast often occurs in the casting world. However, there is no doubt that if Matthew McConaughey takes the lead role, then the series will have greater appeal and influence.

The Last survivor is currently in pre-production and is scheduled to begin filming next month. HBO has not yet made public when it will air.
